Chani sat at the very edges of the den, glancing back towards the opening in which her mother lay quietly. The other cubs were content sleeping in her warmth, but the odd-eyed little lioness cub remained eager to explore what lay beyond the den. From what her family knew, Chani was a very well behaved little cub, but in reality the mischievious little lion was constantly pushing her boundaries and trying to get her way in most situations. With so many older brothers, Chani found that her big watery eyes were a perfect way to get what she wanted.
Keiri was nestled amongst her other sleeping siblings. But as she rolled over nad lost the warmth at her side, her eyes opened slowly. The oddball of the family by appearance, she was a standout of the blacks and golds that mainly dominiated her family pelt. She sighed, wondering if someday she could try to change the color of her pelt so that she would feel better suited, but then again, she was different, which could be a good thing, right? As she yawned and awoke from her slumber, she sretched, and moved to go outside, spotting her sister outside she stuck her tongue out of the crner of her mouth and tried to creep up behind her sister for a little morning surprise.

Chani was careful to be very quiet. She knew that she wouldn't get in too much trouble if mama woke up, but she didn't want to risk being taken away from a potential adventure. Making sure that the coast was clear, the female cub glanced back once more to be off. When she looked behind her, she noticed a creeping white cub that seemed to have planned an adventure of her own! The sudden knowledge that one of her siblings was awake changed Chani's plans and the cub thought quick. As though to retaliate, the cub narrowed her eyes and got her body into a pouncing position. Quickly Chani leapt into the air in an attempt to tackle her sibling. It might not have been the quietest choice, but the cub knew that it'd amuse her at least for awhile.
Keiri's ears fell back and her eyes opened in surprise when she saw her sister turn around and heave herself at her in an attempt to pounce. She made a tiny mewling noise like a squeak and hopped out of the way, and went outside the den. Though she knew she shouldn't wander far from the den or her fmily, keiri also didn't like staying in one place at one time. "I didn't think you'd hear me," she said in a whisper, and a small giggle. "What are you doing up so early, huh? going somewhere?" she questioned.
Chani missed her sister by only a few inches and skid along the dirt ground with an 'oof!'. Picking herself up, the cub shook out her fur and began to clean herself as though she couldn't bare to be dirty. While Chani knew that she hadn't heard her sister at all and it was chance that she happened to look back in time, the cub held her head high and spoke in a regal tone, "Then you should work on being quieter." When her sister giggled, Chani seemed to loosen up and she smiled broadly, "Going somewhere?" She repeated curiously. As though it was a dangerous secret, the cub glanced back and forth to ensure that nobody had woken up and the coast was still clear. "Yup. I'm going to explore the pridelands! I think i'm big enough to see what's out there. Plus, mommy always says we're safe in these lands so how can we get in trouble?"
Keiri shrugged and moved her paws along the tops of some grass blades. "But mommy also said we shouldn't go too far, we're still so little compared to everyone else you know," she said mater of factly. "We can't go too far without getting in trouble or being caught." Mybe if one of their older siblings came along with them, but then again, they robably wouldn't let them go too far anyway. "Where did you want to go to, anywhere in particular? I really don't think we should go too far, I don't want to get in troule," Keiri was smart, but also a scaredy cat if you ever met one, she wated to go out into the world, but was afraid to leave her den, even for a few moments without having her mother around.

Chani's ears lowered when her sister reprimanded her. She knew that Keiri was right, but why should that stop her? If she could explain why she thought otherwise she was likely to get off the hook. That was, unless Anga got ahold of her. She always had trouble sweet talking her elder sister. Taking a few additional steps beyond their den, Chani looked back and grinned, "Well, mama is sleeping and the others are nowhere to be seen. Doesn't look like anybody can say anything now, right?" Even though Keiri was morally right, Chani did have a good point. Who could punish you if they never knew you left? Continuing on, Chani took each step with an exaggerated pride. Freedom! "How about we just go real quick.. check out the watering hole on our own and then come back? Sooner we go, sooner we get back. No harm done!"
"But what if mommy wakes up and we're not here! She'll get upset and then it will be really abd, we can't, Chani, stay here!" she said taking some nevous steps towards her sister, nervous because she was getting outside her bubbe that had her and her mom in. "I'll make you, I swear it Chani, don't do it! I'll go get mommy," she said sticking out her tongue. true, she'd be ratting out her sister, but they couldn't go, they needed to stay here. "What if there is a rogue lion or lioness out there waiting to pick off a couple of cubs and were the ones they run into? They'll take us away and we'll never see mom or dad again!" she was over exaggerating, but she couldn't help it.
Keiri's sudden burst of questions and worry was enough to cause the golden cub to stop dead in her tracks. With her ears still lowered and a look of frustration on her face, Chani turned back to look at her sister. "But how will you ever know if you don't go out and find out? Can you really just believe everything that they tell us? What if they just say it so we never leave?" Chani didn't quite follow her own train of thought, but just seemed to be rattling off her own questions back to her sister. Sitting where she was, the cub looked rather defeated. When her sister stuck out her tongue, the cub's eyes narrowed again. "You can't tell on me. Then you'd be turning on me!"
"I can too tell on you! If you go, I'm going to tell mom and dad and then there going to go and get you and bring you back here and you'll get into so much trouble! I'll not doing this to annoy you Chani, just to protect you ya know!" she said with a huff. "You think that going out on adventures will be fun, well they will, when we're older. We still don't know everything Chani, we don't know where to run if we're not close enough to the den, where to hide if something bad happens, we're too little to fight back, adventuring will be fun, but when we're older. Then we'll be able to take care of ourselves and go where we want in the pridelands without worry, don't you get it?" she said with tears in the corners of her eyes. She was afraid of what might happen if they went out now, they were way too little still.

Keiri spoke with such determination and ethusiasm that Chani couldn't help but believe her. As much as the cub wanted to go out and expore the Pridelands, she knew that her mother would be very worried about her disappearance. It wasn't worth the frustration, she decided. Keeping her ears flat on her head, the cub made it very clear that she was entirely unsatisfied with the outcome of their situation. "Next time i'll just have to be quieter to make sure you don't wake up!" Chani stuck out her own tongue and began on her way back towards the den. She didn't notice at first the tears at the corner's of her sister's eyes, but as soon as she saw them, she quickly pulled her tongue into her mouth and made her way beside her white sibling. "I'm sorry Keiri.. I didn't mean to scare you. Lets just curl up with mom and go to sleep. When everybody wakes up, maybe we can ask mom to take us to the watering hole together?"
Keiri stayed silent and at her sister's comment held in a sob, as her sister came closer, and tried to comfort her, she leaned against her sister's shoulder, "I don't mean to be mean or upset you Chani, I just don't want anything bad to happen to you, " if anything bad ahppened to any of ehr siblings or anyone in her family, Keiri wasn't sure what she would do. "Yea, we'll ask her when she gets up, maybe mom and dad will find a time to let us go somewhere we want to go on their own, if they check it out beorehand or something," she said with a nod. "lets go back to sleep Chani, we'll ask mom when she wakes up,"
Chani held her tongue and simply nodded, still upset that she wasn't able to take on the world like she had planned. It was disappointing, but it was also comforting to know how much her sister cared about her. Chani loved her family, but didn't often worry about everything that could possibly happen to them. With so many older siblings and grandparents it wasn't like the cubs could really get into anything without someone finding them. Leading the way, Chani made her way back into the den and found a place close to her mother to rest. Motioning towards the spot by her, Chani whispered, "I left room for you." In the excitement of their conversation, Chani found herself actually tired. Shutting her eyes to rest, the cub quickly drifted off to sleep.
Keiri watched as Chani moved nad she smiled at her sister's statement. She maneuvered herself to make her way into teh den withou steping on anyone else, and curled next to her sister and mother and let her eyes close once again. She was still tired, and she ywned, letting her dreams take hold of her while she was content in knowing no one had gone too far away today.
