 As he stood staring off into the distance he felt his mind starting to wander; drifting on into the various moments that had lead him to where he was right now. So much had happened over the past few years. He was a grandfather now, twice over, and even a great-grandfather. Him, the stallion that no one thought would ever settle down.
Time seemed to change things. It seemed to change them alot.
Shaking his head he snapped out of his daze, turning to trot down along the path that lead to the stream. He could catch a quick drink and then do some running, clear his head a bit before returning to his mate to see if she felt like taking a walk on the wild side later, if only to feel young again.

It was true, time changed things. It had certainly changed Akila.
Once, she'd been a naive young mare, bursting with life and fiercely rebellious. She'd had her share of doubts about her decision, but that had been long ago, before the foals that she so dearly cherished. Some had gone their own ways, but others clung to their family unit. Her father had been a welcome reunion, her step-mother a pleasant addition to her life.
But lately, life had begun to feel achingly empty. Tsani had left a hole in her heart, and memories no longer sufficed to fill that void. Knowing that mourning herself right into the grave would be a foolish waste, she had cut herself loose from that life. She would keep her family, but her mate had not been a part of it for many long months. She'd be fooling herself to say otherwise.
Her pace as she walked to the stream was slow, meandering...aimless. She had nothing but time, for now.

His trot slowed into a light canter that brought him up to the edge of the stream before he stopped, leaning down to touch his nose to the cool, reflective surface. He shook his head as he stepped back, not expecting it to be quite as cold, even if he should have known better by now. The snow was melting up in the mountains and making the water brisk... How many times had he told his foals that while they were growing up?
His ears swiveled as he heard a sound coming from nearby, body tensing as he tried to determined if it was a good noise or a bad noise. Settling for simply throwing caution to the wind he called out. "Whoevah's out there should jus' come out. Ain't no sense in hidin'."

Akila's body tensed as her head swung up, ears pricked as she scanned the trees. She didn't see anything, but the voice had come from the direction of the stream... Ducking her head below a low-hanging branch, the tall mare stepped out of the trees. "I'm not hiding, I just didn't know anyone was there." A spark of her old humor flashed in her eyes before dissipating almost as quickly as it had appeared. "Something wrong about that?"

"Non, there ain't nothin' wrong with that... But me sayin' somethin' got you to come out, didn't it?" His brow lofted, amusement dancing in eyes that seemed to glow a bright, fiery ruby color. "S'been a while since I've seen anyone but family 'round these parts... Thought it might be nice."
