The weather was really starting to warm up, the snow was melting fast and the ground was littered with puddles of still cold water. A young filly charged and dashed here and there splashing through as many puddles as she possibly could. Mud was splashed up her legs and underbelly. Some had even splattered against her dark face. If one were to even look at her they would think that she was just a living mud pile.
Nightling tumbles and slipped along the ground, giggling to herself as the slick ground gave way to cold snow and she rolled over on to her hooves to shake the mud and slush from her back. Now she was completely covered in the stuff, her mane was stuck out in off directions in their own muddy spikes. Even her tail hadn't survived the onslaught. Shaking again she tossed gobs of mud in all directions, her horn seemed to be the only thing that was semi clean and it gleamed in the sun's light. Azure eyes glancing skywards she smiled thinking there could be no fun better then rolling in the mud..

The colt was into everything. He always seemed to cause trouble, though it could be said trouble followed him. His little orange-brown tail flicked a bit as he pranced, head held high. He was bored.. And without proper entertainment, he would only get into more trouble. Something which he knew very well.
His eyebrows knitted together.
"How can momma and daddy expect me to be good..If I get so dang bored!" He asked himself, huffing with a snort, and continueing his journey.
His parents werent far, he was sure, but he hadnt really been looking to keep an eye out. He had just gone walking.
The snow was beginning to get runny and wet,and he smiled, taking a running leap into a huge mound of the white melting liquid, with a FLLLLP.
He stuck his head out, his orange eyes glancing around. Oh how he hoped to shake on some unsuspecting creature..

Mud covered black ears picked themselves up from where they had been planted. Something had attracted them to a section of mud she had yet to explore. Tilting her head to one side, she headed that way, not knowing that she would be getting a face full of mud as a colt, about her own age, shook himself as he looked at filthy as herself. Shaking herself, once more her tail swinging to flick a gob that weighted down her tail. Though it didn't really make things any better.
"Hey!" She pipped up looking at the colt from where she was standing, covered in mud from head to hoof. "I'm dirtier then you are!" she smiled as mud slipped from her muzzle like water to the ground before her.
Everything about her might have made her adorable to her parents, but to others she might have jest been about the most annoying filly that lived at the moment. Smiling at the colt she had come upon, this would have been fun, he didn't look like either her brother or sister... Well her brother at the very least, for he had wings like her mother. Smiling brightly she continued watched the colt, wondering of his reaction and if he would catch her wanting to play.

He wasn't too sure how to react to someone who was happy, and friendly..as he had really only ever met his siblings.. No other foal had ever stopped by, and he had taken to talking to the adults.
But something about her sparked something inside him. He smiled, a lopsided smile that seemed to only lift one corner of his lips.
"Well,Dirt doesn't hurt you, so I dont see the harm in it." He said wtih a nod, and happy eyes. His eyes were eerily, lightly colored, but he was incredibly friendly should anyone give him half the chance.
"What are you doin' all muddy for, anyway?" He asked, perking his own dark ear. As his eyes looked her over, they widened a bit. "Oh my goodness. You have a horn!.. And a tail thats like a cat!" He couldnt help but squeal a bit.
"Thats AWESOME."

Nightling watched the colt as he gave a lopsided smile her way. Tilting her head to the side a little she didn't quite catch the statement about being dirty didn't hurt anyone, well she would certainly know that. Of course she would, though she went kinda cross-eyed when he spouted about her horn and tail. Well, she wasn't sure what a cat's tail looked like, but she knew it was different from her parent's tails.
"Of course." She smiled. "My father has a horn, but his tail is braided, I don't know where I got my tail from..." She looked back at her mud covered tail swaying it a little. "Perhaps someone in my family has one like it somewhere."
Nightling being kid of the odd ball of her family, she often was a bit scatter brained as well, she stomped in place making mud splash up her legs again, the rest of he body feeling like it was starting to harden. "I don't know why, it just looked like fun, but this fun is starting to hurt." She looked around, "Race ya to the river?" She asked, though didn't wait for a reply before dashing off, trying to get a head start.

She was about as odd and wild as he was..and that was something he enjoyed. He loved meeting others, especially if that other person was fun to be around.
He smiled, giving a little nod. "Oh well..Its very nice." He said, making sure to keep his mannerslike momma had taught him. At least at first.
"Well getting Dirty is always fun too.. It doesnt wear off." He said wtih a sharp nod of his head. But when she mentioned race adn took off, it was only miliseconds before he too was up and moving towards the river.
"ILLCATCH YOU." He yelled.

Hooves moving as fast as they could beneath her, Nightling wasn't about to let the colt beat her. Ears twisting backwards she heard him coming up behind her, but she was still well a head of him. One ear twitched to the side as she listened to the river that was coming up quickly... Or so it seemed. The trees cleared before her, but there wasn't any river! Trying to stop, she soon landed on her belly sliding across the slick ground. What she thought would lead her to water and perhaps a bath lead her to a steep cliff side.
Eyes bugging out her sliding came to a stop mere inches from the drop, but below it was the river. Just... Too far down for anyone without wings or a death wish to get to. Getting herself up as fast as she could, Nightling back paddled away from the edge and looked back to where the colt woudl be coming from.
"Slow down!" She shouted hoping he would hear her before plowing into her, cause she wasn't exactly moving from her spot, and they both would be sliding down the cliff side.

Crue had been running like the wind, his tongue hanging from the side of his mouth in determination and focus. He threw his head back, letting out a loud yell that was all happy and fun. But when he looked ahead, the filly was looking at him with nervousness in her eyes.
'Slow Down!" He heared, and instantlyhe wondered why. He did not know this area, and he wasnt sure what would be wrong. Thinking that it was maybe an animal to chase them away, he got another determined face.
"Where is it? Ill BEAT IT." He said, ready to fight the unseen animal that had to scare her so badly.
When his eyes looked ahead, however, the cliff was only too obvious. "You almost killed us!" He cried, eyes wide. But a smile lined his muzzle adn he grinned.
"THAT WAS AWESOME."

Nightling watched as Crue slowed and came to a stop finally as it seemed he almost went over the cliff side as well. Well, at least she had saved someone... Right? When he had stopped and shouted that she could have killed them both, she shrunk back a little, kinda frightened at the shouting that didn't sound friendly. Shaking her head the atmosphere changed as he smiled spouting that it was awesome? How could almost falling over a cliff side be awesome? She wasn't about to ask.
"So which way should we go to get down there?" she asked looking down the steep incline that would certainly mean the deaths of both of them, or at the very least a lot of injury then painful death. "Perhaps there's another trail down to the river, I hope so cause this mud is starting to bother the crap out of me." She whined scratching her horn against her flank to scrap some of the much away from her black hide.

He cocked his head a bit, looking at the mud that was indeed caking itself on her pelt. "I dont even know your name.." He replied, gazing at her.
He puffed out his chest, full of pride. "The name is Crue, and Im a rough and tumble fightin' machine!" He said wtih a smile.
But then she asked about how to get down. His smile went away, and instantly he went into focused mode. He 'Hmmmed' a few times, and then his eyes gleamed.
"We could just follow the tree line!" He said, gazing to the side of the cliff that seemed to lead into the forest. It wasnt a large forest persay, but there were definately trees that they could follow.
"And maybe we'll be able to find something from there." He said with a nod.
