Dhauneth was working diligently on a diagram of his findings on the workings of the brain after reanimation. It was exceedingly simple, actually.

The basement laboratory was completely silent as he worked. Everything was dead, after all. He didn't even have any reanimated specimens with him at the moment. Their constant noise was too much of a distraction for this delicate work. If he mislabeled something, it could be very detrimental to his position, and mostly his sponsorship status.

Of course, if he noticed the flaw, he could start over. That would take far too long for it to be worth it.

Bah! Concentrate! He had let his mind wander too much and had almost misspelled degeneration.

Balithra was bored today, she had nothing important to do, and she had finished any errands she had to take care of for today. Oh! She had a brilliant idea, she'd go visit Dhauneth, seeing him always made her day. In fact she fully intended on finding things to do with him, just the two of them, anything at all...

But...he wasn't home?

Frowning, Balithra put her hands on her hips as she stood in the middle of his sitting room looking in every direction for any sign of her beloved. Where was he? Had he gone out? Well...there was one place she hadn't checked...her gaze flickered to the doorway to his laboratory, frowning a little. He was never much fun when he was down there working, and sometimes he never even noticed her come in. That was never any fun! An idea suddenly came to Balithra and she smirked with excitement, tiptoeing to the door and just barely opening it, enough to look inside and see if he was really down there. Ah! There he was! Perfect!

Balithra opened the door enough to slip through it and close it quietly, creeping down the stairs as silently as she could manage. Her skirt swished quietly as she crept, and at one point she brushed against something weird and nearly gasped. Ergh! What was that? No matter! Her target was right there. Grinning, she suddenly pounced on Dhauneth's back, wrapping her arms around his neck and her legs around his waist, resting her head on top of his. "Hello, my dearest." She purred, smiling as innocently as she could manage.

"Wha-wha?" Dhauneth toppled forward somewhat. He hadn't heard her coming at all and was disoriented. When he finally regained his composure he looked at his paper. The ink had smeared. He closed his eyes. "Balithra, dear," he whined softly. "I'll have to start over now." He stood up, lover still attached to him and walked to where he stored his parchment.

Dhauneth's surprise made her laugh, giving him a loving squeeze as he said her name. Oh, wait, he was whining? Why? Balithra looked down at his work and saw the smear, frowning a little as Dhauneth complained about starting over. She continued to cling to him even when he was standing and walking, kissing the top of his head. "I apologize. What was it? Was it difficult?" His answer mattered! She'd feel guiltier if it was something difficult he had been working on for days or even hours, but if it was something easy that took minutes then she wouldn't mind just sitting and waiting for him to finish.

It was her turn for attention now, sorry. She'd deemed it so.

Dhauneth sighed. "It's not difficult, just tedious and time consuming." He set the parchment down at his desk. He looked at the page he had been working on and pushed both pages away from himself. "But I suppose I could take a break."

He knew why she had come and wouldn't be one to deny her. "Would you at least get off my head?" he asked, smiling warmly for the first time since she'd gotten there.

"Ah, I see. I didn't know." She did feel bad for what she'd done, but it really wasn't in her nature to show it more than another loving squeeze and a kiss to the back of the base of his ear. When she heard his announcement about taking a break she grinned, glad to hear that victory was hers. She didn't even have to say a word!

Balithra blinked, staring down at Dhauneth for a moment. "...I'm not on your head, love." She corrected him, dropping her legs so her feet were on the floor again, climbing off his back and walking around him to pull herself up onto the desk, making herself comfortable where there were no papers. Crossing her legs, she propped her elbow on her knee and cupped her chin in the palm of her hand, the other reaching out to toy with a lock of Dhauneth's hair. "I was on your back." Balithra finished, smirking a little. It amused her to see and hear Dhauneth's reactions to her corrections.

"Anyway, I'm bored, will you entertain me?"

"It was a half-baked figure of speech, executed poorly." He looked at her wearily. "I am glad you showed up though." He turned and hugged her.

Dhauneth pressed his face against her head and breathed deeply, nostrils filling with the smell of musk and earth. Her presence was relaxing. "So what do you want to do?"

Balithra returned the hug, resting her head against his with a gentle smile. So sentimental and lovey-dovey, it wasn't like her but she liked it. She continued to toy with his hair as he pressed his face against her, adjusting her hold on him and climbing onto his lap. What did she want to do? Well, there were a number of things they could do, but they were things they did all the time! They needed to do something new!

"I'm not sure, to be honest. Something we've never done before...?" But what was there to do. Hm...

Dhauneth laughed. "You don't make it easy, do you?"

What hadn't they done already? It didn't leave much. "You could always help me with my work?" he teased. "That would be new." He knew that wouldn't pique her interest though so he kept thinking. He was still in working-mode, so it was hard to stop thinking about the diagram he needed to transcribe.

"Well, you've got me," he admitted finally. "I can't think of anything."

"No, I suppose I don't." Balithra shrugged, still wearing that gentle little smile that only Dhauneth ever saw. She remained quiet to let him think of an activity for them to do, taking some of his hair and braiding it with a soft hum. When he suggested helping him work she glanced up at him with a raised brow, looking momentarily unimpressed. Work, work, work. That was all he wanted to do? Hmph. Maybe she should just get him out of here and do something elsewhere with him. This wasn't an environment she wanted him to come up with ideas in.

But, unfortunately, she had him stumped. Pouting her lips and looking around, Balithra let the tiny little braid drop against Dhauneth's shoulder so she could stretch her arms above her head. "I'll help you work..." She began, clearly trailing off on something more she wanted to say as she then dropped her arms on Dhauneth's shoulders and wrapped them around his neck in a hug, putting her forehead to his. "If you animate something." Because just doing paperwork and bookwork the entire time would bore her to sleep, and possibly to tears. She would not be pleased.

He was vaguely surprised. Well it wasn't like he would get any work done normally, so it wouldn't hurt to pick another project more like to her tastes. He had quite a few things lying around for animation. Glancing around, Dhauneth located a large dead rat being preserved for reanimation later.

"I suppose I could show you the reanimation of a rodent," he suggested aloud. He wasn't really sure she'd be interested in that kind of thing. He watched her reaction, trying to catch if she really wanted to try that or not.
