Symphony raced through the sky as fast as her wings could carry her. She could feel Veln's claws ripping into her back, but she couldn't stop, the news was just too exciting! She had to tell Nirvana as soon as possible. She skidded to a stop, if that was even possible in mid-air, and hovered. Concentrating hard, she felt for that faint connection that linked her to all of her feathers. Turning east, she felt the pull drag her back towards the teepee, where her son was. She frowned and mumbled "No no." Then she turned north, and as she concentrated on the feather in that direction she saw a flash of red eyes, and long flowing hair. She opened her eyes and smiled with glee. Racing off in that direction Symphony said casually to Veln, "You know, you're going to be the one with babysitting duty..."

Veln grumbled, and said in an irritated tone, "No way Sym, I baby sitted the last batch you two had, no way I'm doing it again!"

Symphony chuckled, and as she felt the feathers connection grow stronger, she dove out of the sky and alighted neatly in the clearing, only a few feet away from Nirvana, the love of her life. Just being near him again, though she had only seen him a few days ago, made her giddy with joy. She said, "Nirvana, will you come with me? I have something to show you." She had hidden them here earlier, only a few hours ago. She had known Nirvana would be here, and she couldn't wait to show him.

The light wind of early spring ran through Nirvana's thick mane. It brought with it both the last lingering chill of winter and the first tentative warmth of spring. What a beautiful time of year it was. It was a time of transitions. It was a time for rebirth and replenishment. It was time for renewal... it was a time for birth...

And upon the wind his mate grew closer.

He could see the excitement in the way she flew and the way her energy seemed to pulse around her. Though he did not, could not know what news she bore him yet he felt his heart lifting in excitement to match hers. Yes, spring brought many changes to the world. What change had been brought to theirs?

When she had landed and asked her question his first reply was simply a smile and a nod. After he made that gesture he allowed himself a comment as well. "I will not ask what it is that you are bringing me to see." He smiled warmly, reflecting her joy in his own eyes. "I will allow it to be a surprise, as many of the best things in life are."

Symphony nuzzled her beloved mate in welcome, softly breathing in all the wonderful forest scents that had trapped themselves in his mane. It was so good to see him again. All around her the birds chirpped and twittered. Springtime was her favorite time of year, it was a time of birth of new life, and she had certaintly fulfilled that part of the springtime bargin. Then coming back to the present, her eyes lit up, and she said slyly, "Veln, go part those bushes over there." Veln grumbled, why did he always have to do the dirty work? Grumply, the ferret scuttled over to a pile of brush, and began pawing through it.

He tossed the branches aside, his keen nose snuffling as he scented the precious things which lay below. He couldn't believe that Symphony had spent four hours this morning dragging the baskets all the way our here, but she wouldn't be argued with. He felt his paw his something wicker, and he paused for a moment, as he felt the gentle stir of life beneath his paw. The crotchety ferret's expression softened, and gently, he dragged the first basket into the clearing, following quickly with the second and third. He still couldn't believe Sym had had three baskets... again. That only meant more work for him, aka Uncle Veln, or Veln the baby sitter. But for now he was content to watch his mistress and her mate, and their three new children.

With each basket that appeared, the joy on Nirvana's face became more and more apparent. One basket meant he was a father again. Two meant that the one would have a sibling. Three meant that they were blessed. Truly blessed. He felt like the joy within him might brim over the surface, might overload his heart and set his spirit whirling free into blissful oblivion. He wished that he had a voice like Symphony so he could sing in praise of the gift that had been given them. He almost made the attempt anyways but decided to use words instead of song to express himself.

"My beauty, my love. Each one of them is a miracle." He went and nuzzled each basket in turn, feeling the soft warmth that came from within them. "To think that we would be so blessed twice in our lives. Can any others truly count themselves so lucky? To have three such beautiful and wonderful children and then have three more? I think not." He practically glowed as he raised his head to smile at his mate. "No, I think not."

Symphony had known that Nirvana would be delighted, but she hadn't anticipated this level of joy that she felt as she watched Nirvana's face beam with pride and pleasure. Her own heart swelled as Nirvana gently nuzzled each of the baskets, he was such a kind, loving father. She walked over to him and said, elated, "Yes, we are truly blessed by the gods to have six children in our lives. Many other soquili only have the chance of two." She was thinking of her herdmates.

"Think of the world they will see when they emerge from those little baskets. Tree's, sky, perhapes some of them will be blessed enough to soar on the winds for themselves."

She could feel the baskets slow pulses, the sigh of warm little breaths inside. They would come out soon, and as they did she and Nirvana would be there to greet each one of them.

Looking at the woven and colorful baskets, Nirvana could almost see the souls that they held inside. Some of them would fly. They could not come from a mother like Symphony and not have some element of the wind in them. It had seemed like such a miracle to him the first time, watching the foals emerging from their baskets for the first time... watching them become their own beings for the first time. He was fascinated by how he could see parts of himself and Symphony in them... yet they were each distinctly their own individuals. Seeing that occur before him was like magic... and now he would see it again.

"To think that already they live within those baskets," he mused softly while regarding them. "Already perhaps Fate has decided their futures. I wonder where their lives will take them... but for now they do not yet even have their names."

He trailed off into silence, overwhelmed by the magnitude of it.

Symphony spoke softly, "Whatever futures Fate has decided for them I am sure will not lead them astray, they are already good children, with an even better father to guide them." She smiled in pleasure as she saw the little baskets begin to move, and said, "Look my darling, I think they have decided to join us, what with us talking about them" She winked, then, wings folded, turned all her attention to the little creatures struggling out of their wicker prisons.

The first to emerge was a little filly, sky blue as as her father, but with icy blue wings that hung limply by her sides. Sparrows markings adorned her forhead, much like Symphony's own. Symphony gasped in pleasure, the filly was beautiful, even more so than her parents. Kneeling down onto one knee, Symphony nuzzled her daughter, whispering, "Welcome to our world, my little one." She turned, and said, "Nirvana, don't just stand there mouth agape, come meet your daughter."

The little filly looked around in the wondrous world that existed outside her wicker home. The sights, the smells! Her nose felt like it was on fire with all the new scents flowing into it. Her eyes hurt after being in the dark for so long, and now she could see bright things that gave each object its own unique...thing? Was that the way to describe it? It was called a color! The sky was blue, trees were brown and green, and rocks were gray.

Somehow she knew words already. The big creature in front of her, that was her mom, and those things attached to her, were, were... She furrowed her brow... Wings! That was it, wings! She had them too. Looking back she saw they just hung there. Her mothers were folded in in some way, so she tried it. There! That was so much more comfortable. When she heard her mom mention father she racked her brain, what was a father?

Peering around her mom she saw another creature, that must be her Da! He was the same as her mother, except he didn't have wings! Weren't all creatures who looked like her and her mom supposed to have wings? She was confused, so she said, " 'scuse me Da, but why don't you have wings like me and mom?" How could she have wings if her Da didn't? What if she had wings but they didn't work cause her Da didn't have wings?!

. o O ( I seem to have lost my foal tag when I was shifting things around. e.e; Oops. So I'll use the Uncert, cropped. )

A small nose popped out of the dark-brown basket, sniffing a little before sneezing and retreating quickly. So many new smells! They were so muted within the basket, it was alarming to smell it all the first time. The foal within the basket shifted and made a small sound before the nose poked out once again, taking a more cautious sniff before snorting and retreating, only to poke out again, a few snaps and crackling noises being heard before she managed to wriggle her head through, popping the top.

Bright light. Too bright. With a funny, soft squeak, she retreated back, only to accidentally push the lid off the basket. Dismayed, she looked up with ruby red eyes - her father's eyes - and nickered, stretching her head up while she tried to coordinate her legs well enough to stand; she managed it after a few attempts, standing on stilt-like legs that felt rather sore after spending her time cramped up in the basket.

Instinctively, she understood what her parents were speaking of, but forming the words herself was a bit more tricky. She blinked, looking at the beautiful, sparrow-like colouring of her mother, and the icy blue radiance of her father with wide eyes. Wide eyes that soon fell onto her pretty sister, who seemed to have the best of both worlds. ...but...those things on her back. They were like mother's. Quickly, she craned her head around and lost her balance in her haste to find out if she had any.

She wobbled, squealed softly, but managed to stay upon her feet. Bracing herself, she took another, more reserved look, ears sweeping back. Nothing like the splendid wings were upon her plain brown back! She ducked her head with a sigh, and spotted the dainty markings upon her legs. She might have been more plain than her sister in terms of looks, but she fondly rubbed the soft blue swirls, pleased she had something special from her parents to call her own.

Raising her head, she looked down to take her first cautious, tentative steps out of the wicker basket, tripping lightly on her gangly legs. Wide eyed, she stumbled forwards, heading towards her father with a wary look back at the slightly torn basket.

Shaking her head, her fuzz of a mane dancing the tiniest bit, she stretched her nose up to sniff her father. Yes, it was a newer scent, but warm and loving. There was no doubt after seeing the same faint markings on his legs as well that he was her father...and the beautiful winged mare, her mother.

"M...M-Momma..? ...D-Da-ad..?" She spoke, her first two words aimed at the two that towered over both her and her sibling, the words sounded out and made with just a hint of difficulty. Her throat felt a little scratchy, as if the slightly musty air inside the basket had affected it somehow...but it didn't matter to her. She flicked her small tail happily, gazing around at the three in wide eyed wonder before looking back, noting there was one more basket. ...she had came out of one. And the blue basket nearby was open...that would have been her sister's. ...what was inside the last..?

First one basket spilled open and then another. Before Nirvana had a time to react, he had two children arrayed around him. One was blue like himself but marked like her mother and with her mother's beautiful wings. The other was brown with the same delicate cloudy patterns on her legs as he bore upon his. Two little girls, both as beautiful and perfect as any creature he could possibly imagine. The smile he gave them was full of emotion, pride and joy setting him aglow.

"I don't have wings because I was not born with wings," he said to his blue daughter. Further philosophical explanation could wait until she was a little more able to appreciate it. As he turned to his second daughter he noticed the basket behind her wiggling. It seemed like their third child was ready to greet the world.

((And since I didn't save the foal cert... behold another uncert!))

Inside the third basket, the colt that lay within was growing restless. He could hear voices! He had heard voices before, enough to recognize the trill of his mother and the soft murmur of his father... but now there were more. He heard people that he didn't recognize and that stirred him into curiosity and action. His back leg kicked out and the basket shook, but remained firmly shut. Another kick rattled his confines a little more but it was the third that proved the most effective. His final kick was powerful enough to send his basket spilling over, dumping him ungracefully onto the grass before his family.

The foal blinked up at his family with deep, dark eyes in confusion. Who were these strangers? He heard the big blue one say something and then he realized. These were... his parents! With a helpful nudge from his father the foal was upright again. "H-hi," he mumbled uncertainly, overwhelmed by seeing his first glimpse of the world.

Symphony sighed in adoration. Three more beautiful children had been brought into the world. She laid a wingtip on the brown filly, and said, "You shall be Aria's Rhapsody" She nuzzled her daughter. Turning to the colt who had just emerged from his basket, she said, "You are Glissando" To her blue daughter she said, "And you are Sonata" She smiled, resting a wing on Nirvana's back. "Is it so hard to believe we live in such a lucky world?"

She chuckled as Sonata pelted Nirvana with questions. She was a curious one, that foal. Her wings would take her places where her curiousity would be settled. Eventually. Right now all Symphony wanted to do was keep her children as close as she could.

Sonata sniffed, unsatisfied with her Da's answer. She looked to the foal who had just emerged from his basket and stuck her nose in his face. "You smell like wicker." Circling around him and her sister, she asked, "Why don't they have wings either? Is it because you don't have wings Da? If you don't have wings and they don't then why do I?" She tried flapping her wings. Instinctivly she knew that they were used to fly in the sky, but all they did was make her feel lightheaded from the effort. She turned to her mother, and said impatiently, "When do I get to fly?!"

The brush of feathers upon her back had her looking up to her mother, the sensation not unwelcome in the slightest. "You shall be Aria's Rhapsody."

Her voice was musical, and Aria sighed happily, pandering beneath her mother as she moved over to her other siblings. Her attention was soon captured by her elder sister and she stepped carefully from beneath her mother. Oh, how she envied her sister for the pretty wings upon her back...but she didn't feel so bad. Her brother had none, too.

Her sister just wouldn't stop with the questions! While Aria didn't mind too much...after all, she wanted to know what her sister asked just as much, she decided it was best to remain quiet, lest she bombard her mother and father. She wobbled on unsteady legs over to her brother Glissando, a happy little nicker coming from her throat. She nudged his neck and snorted, rubbing his fuzz of a mane with her muzzle.

"H-Hello~" She piped to him, flicking her wispy tail back and forth a few times, ears perking forwards. She twisted to look at her sister, who was fluttering her wings impatiently and smiled at her. She was lucky to have both ground and sky as her domain, but Aria would be...content to remain grounded. There was no changing these things, after all.
