If someone asked me why I loved ATDI and/or TMV I would simply answer: "They're original." Their lyrics? Totally kick a**, though sometimes I can't make sense of them... sad They have this way of putting words together that just sound so right together. Also, their music just rocks. They blend in so many styles with rock it's amazing. I could probably write more, but you're already bored reading, aren't you?

Wellllllllll put D00d! Haha, I love The Mars Volta because they're changing the face of music, and their sound is just unique and perfect. That's the same thing about At the Drive-in. They're just amazing. Plain and simple. It makes me happy everytime I listen to either band, because Not all Music is candy coated and straight to the point. It makes me think! It says so much more than just sound and a good beat. heart heart

I love The Mars Volta because the music puts such interesting images into my head. The band has really done an amazing job with visually complimenting their sound. Virtually everything has some background story or origin behind it, and because of that depth and attention to detail it's always entertaining and thought-provoking. The music itself is complex too, hardly repetitive or boring (well, maybe some of the ambient noise... okay). But whenever I first hear a new song, it's never predicable where it's heading - it's a surprise, whether I like it or not, and I usually come to like it anyway. And although TMV are currently my top fancy, I have to give props to ATDI. Listening to their music always has me wanting to move, and sometimes when I get home from school I'll put on a CD and run/jump/thrash/accidently hurt myself to my heart's content - or at least until my parents get home. ninja

Rawr, I do that quite often my self. L'via L'viaquez just makes me want to dance like crazy, and I usually do. I get stares on the bus often. BUT! I met ANOTHER dude who likes TMV on ze bus the other day. It ruled. He was a bit crazy though.

I love Mars Volta because they restored my faith in modern music. When it seemed like there wasn't any hope left, they were the band that brought something new and refreshing.
When I first listened to them, I knew nothing about them. It was about three or so years ago, shortly after De-loused came out, and one of their concerts was OnDemand. The description of the program decribed their music as 'psychadelic jazz fusion", and i thought it seemed interesteing, so I started watching it. I was blown away. I hadn't heard anything so original and energetic. Omar's guitar made sounds i didn't even know a guitar could make. The sound quality was poor, and I couldn't make out the lyrics, but I still felt the suge of energy and passion in Cedric's voice. As soon as I could, I went to the record store and bought the album. I still didn't know anyhting about the band, or who they were, but it was one of the best albums I had ever purchased.
It wasn't until later that I discovered that Cedric and Omar were part of the band At the Drive-In. I bought Relationship of Command, still knowing very little about the band or what to expect, but I was blown away by that too.
I also admire the bands ability to successfully combine punk and progressive influences.

I love The Mars Volta for just about the same reason that Satan said, they pretty much restored my faith in modern music. At the time nearing my exposure to them, I was living in the dark, clutching tightly to my Led Zeppelin, Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Doors, and Santana Cd's; just denying any modern music that came my way. It was horrible, this new era, with all these new rock bands calling themselves "emo" (although now I know, they're not) were taking over. I hated these new band deeply, and even my bassist was giving in to them and becoming a fan/supporter of such crap. Whenever he would recommend I listen to bands, they were all the same crap that sounded like the other 300 bands out there that only played crap.
But then, one day at the CD store, I came across Frances the Mute. Now, I've always had a great memory, and remembered he told me to remind him to buy that CD. I didn't think much of it when I turned to him saying, "Look Danny, there's that CD you want." So he bought it and we went home that night, returning to our lives. I went to bed thinking that the next few days he'd be trying to get me into this stupid "emo" band with CD covers containing guys with red gym shorts on thier heads.
But, to my surprise, the next day I went over his house, and he played L'via L'viaquez for me, I was left speachless. The opening solo with drums resembling that of John Bonham sent shivers down my spine. And as he went to the bathroom he called out, "...and just wait for the latin part," and not daring to stand up from my seat or divide my attention, I listened on. When the piano and latin percussion instruments kicked in, I had goosebumps everywhere. These people... did they share the same dream as I? Were they trying, with all thier efforts, to bring back the artistry into music?
That same week I bought De-Loused and Frances on the same day, and what a buy. Now there's no cover that I love to play with my band more than Cicatriz ESP. Being an improvisational band like us, we never play the song the same anyway, but the energy we release as we play that song is amazing. And now, when home alone, there's nothing I love to do more than sing "Cygnus....Vismund Cygnus" as loud as I can. God, how I love that high note he hits in the end. Quite possibly the highest I've heard him hit...
Wellp, now I'm just rambling... so I'll leave it at that. The Mars Volta have shown me that I'm not the only one carrying this dream, as unrealistic as it may seem, due to the fact that music has gone downhill. They're the daimond in the rough I was looking for, and soon, perhaps more will show up... ninja

TMV has a special feeling with it. Like the classical rock of the future. They have a certain limited timeless power- You know they would've been cool any time from the 60's until now. Something like that. I 'unno. Oxymoron. Roffle. They have more staying power and originality then Green Day to say the least. No angsty love songs. I hear them in colours without the help of acid or weed. ..though certain things to accent these sound colours. o.o; It speaks to me in movements and.. Augh, I'm salivating. The lyrics aren't like anything you hear too often, all the crazy metaphores and just..augh..beautiful.
At The Drive In just reminds me of things. Mostly summers and bad times. But not in that corny Ataris way? But that might be because of the length of time I've listened to them.
They're much more..angry then volta. I mean, not really, but the sound is more..tangable. Less beautiful, but still remarkable. ATDI could have been pulled off by another group sound-wise, but the lyrics seem to be the real connection that links them to TMV. I've heard a song or two by other bands that makes me think of At The Drive-in, but never as energetic and magical.

When I have kids and they're young enough to be influenced but old enough to appreciate the music, I'm totally filling their brains with it. biggrin

Originality, awesome sound, fantastic energy, beautiful lyrics, great guitars, perfect singing, and passion.
When I listen to Deloused in the Comatorium I feel like im in another world... a better one.
The Mars Volta is the best drug ever.

Yes. My friends think I'm weird and crazy because I can just sit almost completely still and take in the entire song, but that's because to me, it's different almost all the time.. It's weird, I listen to de-loused with my undivided attention, and I've had it for over two years and I STILL miss little bits of the songs.
