Hopefully a step up from Systematic Chaos. That one's probably DT's second worst album (worst is Train of Thought by miles and miles).
If they actually put effort into the songwriting this time and spend less time noodling, I'll be happy.

Right, so two tracks from the album leaked, and I'm listening to them right now.
I'm not gonna spoil a thing about them, but they're most definitely a step up from Systematic Chaos.

I really enjoyed this new Album. Nothing really spectacular about it though. Some of the tracks reminded me of their Six Degrees album. Overall, however, I can say that I honestly enjoyed listening to it.

The instrumentals on this new album are pretty good, but...ugh. LaBrie just doesn't have what he used to have with his voice. I'm sorry, and I love James LaBrie to death, but...this was a suckfest for him vocally. He just doesn't have that power the he used to; hell, he had it even on Systematic Chaos. Just knowing what he used to be and what he could be, then hearing his performance here, just ruins the album for me.
This album is really just mediocre :/ I'm a hardcore Dream Theater fan, but this album was not that good.

SC is mediocrity in album form, not BC&SL. BC&SL is proof that the band still knows how to write good music. Good vocals or bad, the music itself is great.

A Crisis In Mid-Life Consecrated Oblivion This album is really just mediocre :/ I'm a hardcore Dream Theater fan, but this album was not that good. I find it funny that you like SC but not BC&SL. SC is mediocrity in album form, not BC&SL. BC&SL is proof that the band still knows how to write good music. Good vocals or bad, the music itself is great. Well, I totally get what you're saying; the music is very good, don't get me wrong. But I'm a very vocal-oriented person, and bad/less-than-impressive vocals can ruin an album for me. There were parts about SC that I wasn't too impressed with, and there were things about BS&Sl that I did like, but the balance was way too far off for me.
