Is it just me, or did poke balls lose their oomph? In pokemon Emerald, if you threw and ultra ball, it was good to catch a non-damaged pokemon up to around level 30 or 40, one shot.
In Platinum, I just wasted 5 ultra balls on a level 2 starly. What the crap is this?
I have to put the damned thing to sleep to catch it with an ultra ball?
What the hell happened to pokeballs actually being better than others?

im not sure but i dont have that problem i can catch a lvl2 starly easily (withput an AR) but i dont know why you have that problem

I caught a Houndour that was somewhere between 15-20 with a regualr pokeball.. He wasn't damanged.
I should add that it took me four pokeballs.. I mean, I'm not that lucky...

I think its just bad luck on your part, I caught my Dialga with a regular pokeball so...

The pokebals are basically useless now, if you don't put them to sleep, but it all just mostly depends on luck i guess. But it still pisses me off that i can't catch a lv 10 gastly thats asleep, confused, and in the absolute red with an ultra ball scream

Pokeballs can catch lvl 20 pokemon in the yellow w/ no status problems most of the time...

The Marshland Saffari Zone is not easy either... I barely manage to capture a Yanma, Tangela, and a Wooper... Oh, and I have extreme hell with Skorpi's. -_- I had such good luck in Diamond with them.

Well, Ultra Balls are only twice as good as poke balls- I think they were 4 times as good in Generation 3. They seemed it at least.

It could be a coincidence, but I got a max-IV (I don't remember the spread) Starly (for trading to a friend for some goodies he'd been holding for me) out of it. He now has an awesome Staraptor...and I have an awesome Mewtwo (which I obviously can't use in tournaments).
Of course, it could've just been luck...and in your case, it could just be bad luck, but if you have the opportunity, raise that one carefully.
