Baharimtoto Pride

It was Kwaruza's turn to scout the lands for newcommers. She and Tamu did it nearly everyday and it was surprising at just how many strangers had arrived to join the pride. She smiled somewhat at the thought of how the pride was growing. She knew Tamu was over joyed and so was she. She was always glad to see a friend happy.

Today she allowed herself to just wander, her eyes wandering over every tree and noticing every flower. She loved to wander over the grass it was so soft, softer then anywhere outside the pride. There was nothing she could think of that was bad about this pride. It was drama free and homely. She adored and loved it here and so she decided to take a rest under one of the trees on the soft grass, a smile stuck to her maw. These were happy days.

The young male with the blood red mane padded on to the beach with a smile on his maw, this was home, his home. He had been born and raised here and now he was returning. Golden eyes smiled as he searched across the sands, tilting his head to take in a deep, salty and slightly sandy breath. He chuckled, he had missed that sensation.

From the sky which was bluer than blue plummeted a very large deep blue bird, a vulture whos eye sight was greater even the keenest of lions. "Somone's comin' this way Vuai" He squawked landing right on top of the very large lions head his bright orange belly and dark legs vanishing beneath the deep red mane.

"S'just as well lad, I shouldn't go no further til I've spoken to someone, I've been away a while." He chuckles turning his attention down the beach towards the approaching stranger. He didn't know who it was, but then, he supposed many others had come since he left, oh the stories he would tell to his father and mother of the places he had fished! Shaking his head he cast away his dreams for now, he didn't want to seem foolish after all. "Afternoon to ya lassy!" He bellowed his voice a loud cheerful bark.

Kwaruza looked up at the voice and spotted the strange male. She had not seen him before though his markings looked oddly familiar. She smiled though and instead of laying down as she planned she continued to move forward.

"Hello, I am Kwaruza, I haven't seen you here before." She looked at him again, ignoring the bird for now. She looked at his colours and markings. He must be from here, those markings yes they belonged to a couple she had seen though she hadn't spoken to them before. Either way she had never seen the male, or if she had it would have been a while ago and she has forgotten. She would allow him to tell her though in his own time.

The young male lion smiled and tossed a strand of rough hair from his golden eyes. "Greetin's to ya lassy, tha names Vuai, I was born an raised ere so I was, I dun be a reacognisin' ya face love but yer smell o tha sea so I can ony assume yer lives ere." He raised a curious brow, it felt odd to be welcomed back to the place he was born by a stranger, but things changed, he knew that.

Pelleas gave a loud squark from his perch upon the large lions head "An what am I? a piece of fish? The names Pelleas, travlin' companion of this here lug of a beast!" He snikkers.

"Oh ar, sorry lassy I sometimes forget 'es thar, doesn' weigh much really for such a big daft bird!" He smirks playfully, they were clearly close friends.

Vuai.... the name rang a bell somewhere in the back of her mind. Maybe someone had mentioned something.

"I do live here, I help Tamu with running the pride, I suppose, anything that needs doing." She looked him over and smiled. It was rare for her not to smile but the lion and the bird, they were quite something sitting there together. She couldn't help but smile really.

"I am sure everyone you know will be happy to see you back. It is nice to meet you both." She smiled again and looked the bird over. It was a strange bird to be so close to a lion but then again, she knew that strange things could happen. That was life.

"Yar lassy I'm excited to see my parents, you prolly know um, Nahodha'kota and Khepri and my younger brother Isitini, I missed um I did." He smiles and looks upwards at the large bird perched in his mane "we bin out an fishin tha rivers we ave, foun' pelleas injured afta tha earth quake an' we bin together since, got the best set of peepers I know of." He chuckles.

The large bird rolled his eyes and turned his head slightly so he could look at the lioness, "saw you comin' from a mile away." He clacks his beak and stretches his large steely blue wings. "Don't be trying to flatter me Vuai! " The bird chuckled resting his wings back against his sides "this ere big daft lion can't see the nose on the end of is face sometimes!"

Vuai shook his head lightly, he was clearly used to the bird perching on his thick head. "Ah Tamu, things ave changed since I left then, tis good to know she be gettin help."

Kwaruza couldn't help but laugh at the pair, they certainly were quite something. They seemed to happy to just be well insulting each other in ways but it was playful and it was something though confusing made Kwaruza smile. At least she was clearly welcoming a good member back to the pride.

"Sounds like you are quite the lifesaver." She chuckled and then listened as he spoke again.

"Yes I am sure you will see Tamu about soon, she is constantly wandering about though making sure everyone is okay." She smiled at them both. She had heard of the parents but again had never actually spoken to them. She would make a note to try and visit them when she got the time. They were one of the latest she heard about being pregnant. She wondered if their cubs had been born.

"Have you seen your parents? I heard they were expecting another litter?" No harm asking the older brother now is there? He might know if they had been born yet or not.

Vuai's ears popped up from beneath his mane, where they were hidden by his extra scruffy very thick mane "Another litter lassy? Ya don' say! nay lass I aint seen um yet, didn't wanna jus' go galavantin' towards tha dens, I dun went and grew some since last I was ere." He chuckled and looked off down the beach. His parents were expecting? It was wonderful news. the big dark lion smiled and looked at kawaruza. "Tis good news lassy, worth tha celebratin', yer don' mind if I go an see um do ya? I can wait ere if ye need ta speak to mah pa firs' to verify, I be knowin' when thar be cubs roun' tha security be a boosted."

Pelleas stretched his wings again and clacked his long beak. "Cubs, gotta love um, couldn't eat a whole one though, specially cubs tha size o you fuzz ed!" he laughed in a rautious manner tugging at the lions mane with his beak.

Vuai laughed heartily "Will yer shut up yer girt crazy turkey or I'll be a feedin' yer to my lil siblinz." He beamed his golden eyes dancing There was no place like home and it seemed home was about to get a lot more crowded, which in his mind was a good thing.

Kwaruza smiled. "No of course you should go and see them. There wil be 3 litters, one from a new couple, they have been born, one from your parents and then one from Sevati and Ravi, I am not sure if they have been born yet." She smiled. She wasn't going to check out his story. He seemed nice enough and looked at home here. She would check with Tamu later but she had no reason not to believe him.

"I hope to see you around soon Vuai. Welcome home." She smiled and him and then at the bird before turning to leave. She felt like going and seeing Tafuta and her cubs. They were such gorgeous cubs.

Vuai nodded and grinned. "Thankya lassy!" He beamed turning and bounding off down the beach towards the dens the blue bird following virtually on his heels using the thermals cast from the large lion to hover and flap those giant slate blue wings.

They were home at last.
