(( continued from meet with Kenna, set before the Safi are granted entry to the pride. ))

Sandy eyes flashed with a thousand conflicting emotions. Kidondo felt as if there were a battle raging in his head, between a million lions; some big, some small, some weak and some strong. He could barely think over the thoughts exploding from the darkness and striking out at him.

Suffocated.

The situation suffocated him, left him unable to think properly. Good, then, that he had his mate at his side and two reliable companions in which to talk this through. This was why the council had been created in the first place. So that no one lion could make a decision which might lead to a terrible path. Discussion would help. He'd always believed it wholeheartedly. Talk before taking action when possible. Besides, this wasn't something anyone could take lightly or would want to. He certainly didn't want to shoulder this burden alone. He couldn't! He needed to seek advice in his friends and mate, hear what they had to say.

He just hoped they'd be easy to locate. He assumed they would be, probably drawn to Kenna's roar - and his own, for that matter.

His eyes glanced over the sleek back of his dark-pelted mate, wondering what she was thinking.

"We'll find Azarax and Kibela and talk to them in private. The rest of the Simo will want answers, but we can't give them anything until we know for certain what we're getting ourselves into." He paused, breathed deeply. "I'm glad you came as quickly as you did back there."

No's mind, on the other hand, had entered an uncomfortable stillness. The same quality she'd held during the war. When things got hectic, time for No seemed to slow. She could keep steady even when her heart was pounding and her blood was pounding just behind her ears. They needed to talk this through. They needed to prepare. They needed...

"You know I'd never let you go off on a fight without me," She preened, attempting to pull a smile across her face. Much like her mind, it too had fallen into a kind of stillness. She liked to not seem to worry- but she knew Kidondo knew her better then that. Worrying for No was about as easy as breathing. "We will think this through. It's about time those two get their paws wet in a crisis."

She swallowed. Her throat was dry and she could still feel the burn of the sand on her paws. "This... we need to be very careful how we approach these next moments, Ondo. Kenna might be right about hypocrisy and what's just. But we can't assume our enemies will keep the same moral high ground." But on the other hand, if Kenna was an ally... "At the same time, we can't risk sabotaging a chance to be one again."

She quickened her pace, and suddenly crossed his path, stopping just short of him. "Back there, Kidondo..." She reflected and pressed her head to his. "Don't worry about what might have happened or what will happen. We've handled one war, and if it's another we face, we'll do it again and again." She declared. She'd do it for him.

He had been drawn from a hunt by that unfamiliar roar. There almost seemed to be a challenge behind it, but Azarax knew that had simply been the way it had been sounded. It was a summoning call, and the fact that there was a call from a voice so unfamiliar was enough to tell him something was afoot. And then Kidondo's answer had only confirmed it.

The voices had come from the far borders of the desert pridelands, and the tan-pelted General had turned with all haste in that direction. It was tiring business, loping the breadth of the desert, especially with the heat, and much as he felt some reluctance at the grueling task, there was nothing else to be done. So he ran, and as he settled into a comfortable stride that would still carry him swiftly to his destination, the numerous questions and thoughts descended upon him.

What was going on?

He would find that out soon enough, he knew, for Kidondo was obviously there and most likely No was as well. Often it was that both Regents handled business together, and something like this... Well, he didn't know what it was exactly, but his instincts told him it was something difficult.

Change, a voice whispered in his mind. He considered it. Perhaps. There were certain things that could be felt, and change was one of them. He felt something tingling within him as he moved ever nearer to the border. So perhaps that was it.

That faraway roar still rang in his ears, and as he listened, he could hear the authority in the voice. It was something born of being used to giving orders, being important, perhaps. He shook his head as he attempted to stop himself from contemplating the possibilities. he would find out soon enough, and until then, he knew, there wasn't much point in his trying to figure out. It wasn't as if he had much of a guiding point for his musings.

A sand dune loomed ahead of him. His ears flattened as he started uphill. To the top of the dune, he knew, and he would be able to see the lay of the situation. And all the while, he ran.
