So! let''s get to the rules!
- Rules!
Article #1: God modding, we want none of that!
God modding is the act of engaging in what is known as "God Mode". It is when the player renders himself invulnerable, untouchable or kills another player with a move that, in many other situations, wouldn't do as much damage. It also applies to having your character know everything you know, like someone's hiding place or even possible plot twists. Here's an example for the first one:
Player A: I launch a kick, aiming it towards your left side*
Player B: *Let's the kick hit him, and does no effect*
The only justification for that would be if B previously activated some sort of ability that makes him highly resistant to physical attacks, or if he had a metal body part.
You get the idea for those last two examples, don't you? If you don't, I'll have them edited, be it by myself or the other mods.
Article #2: Cybering
Cybering is the action of role playing sexual behavior. This is not allowed anywhere on Gaia, due to the TOS. Please follow it accordingly. If you wouldn't see it in a pg-13 movie, don't roleplay it. I don't think you can take it to pm's, either. I'm not sure though. All I can say is that if you try it, you do so at your own risk. You've been warned.
Article #3: TIME PARADOX
In the case of a mistake made that involves a time error (I.E. you went to where a character is, but two posts ago he moved away), do not leave it there, do not make a new post correcting it. Edit it with some new action. That's why the "Edit" button is there. Many other mistakes should be fixed in the same manner.
Article #4: Quoting
In roleplay, there is no pressing need for quoting, even if it's continuing a conversation, since your last action led to it. Think of it as reading a book where there are multiple stories being told simultaneously. You don't see them repeating themselves, they just pick up where they left off.
If you feel the need to quote, keep it to the bare minimum, which should be one quote. We don't want to compete for the longest quote in the world, now do we?
Article #5: Out of Character Communication
OoC is good way to communicate certain things without altering the story, or subtly changing it without much acting out. Think of it as when improv actors or comedians explain certain things during their act.
Sometimes, this may lead to an OoC conversation, which is innappropriate most of the time. The solution? Well, there are many, but I've seen that making an OoC thread for each RP thread is a practical way of keeping the RP thread clean. I know it sounds bothersome, but I've seen RP threads with more OoC action than actual RPing. I'm open to suggestions, though the idea seems decent in mine eye. You could just post you part of the RP and if you think your OoC comment might spark a conversation, just post ((OoC thread post)). It's that simple.
More to come as I talk to people with more RP experience.
