I donated once in high school (school wide blood drive). I take medication so I don't think that I can donate now. But I would like to, maybe I should call and ask about it.

Yeah, thats when i started.
And they have a list of medicines you cant donate blood while taking.
But it's kind of rewarding, knowing your blood will help :3

I would love to give blood. No idea what my blood type is. My only worry would be that I don't have much to give as I'm a thin little thing. I guess I'd just have to load up on food before going.

Haha, yes there is a weight minimum...I think its 120 pounds for the American Red Cross, and anytime you do give blood, eat before and eat about an hour :3

Aw, there's a weight limit? I guess I'm out then. crying

I've been wanting to give blood, but you're not allowed to donate if you've gotten a tattoo within the last year.

I just checked, in Canada, it's 110lbs and six months for tattoos. (link) So, that means weight wise I'm good to go, but need some more time for my tattoo.

I've given blood quite a few times starting back in high school. For every time I've donated I've been turned away due to anemia. I'm not always anemic, I'm borderline so depending on the time of the month I guess it varies. I love donating because I feel like it's something simple I can do that helps someone. I'm A+ which is not usually in great demand but hey, it's blood.

When i donated in the US the weight limit was 110. I did it once, but strangely enough the people who stopped me from doing it again were my parents rolleyes I just put in my ipod and read a book for 15 minutes. But a girl later went totally pale and threw up. ealier someone who was 110 was walking an totally fainted. if your 110 i dont recommend the donating. its so border line.

Yay, story-sharing time!

exclaim Note: if you're antsy about sharing blood, don't read this! Or at least don't let it deter you.

I've tried donating blood twice, but it only worked once xp The first time I donated I think I got an inexperienced person (I was on one of those donating busses that comes to school). She stabbed each arm twice, and moved the needle around under the skin both times trying to find the vein evil It stung a lot, but I was really really determined... After the 4th time they got a little blood, but it only half-filled the mini-bag that they use for testing before the needle slipped out and I bled all down the arm of the chair... Luckily, I had convinced my friend Tracey to come with me (she was scared to death to do it by herself) and her donation went flawlessly.

The second time, the lady got the vein first-try and it went smoothly--I wasn't even woozy--but Tracey couldn't donate because her heart rate was too high.

Now I have a tattoo so I have to wait 'til at least May next year to donate emo

Note to donors: Don't drink a lot of caffeine beforehand; I drank a ton of tea in the few days before I donated first to keep me hydrated, but the girl that was trying to take my blood said that caffeine can shrink your veins.

Hooray for giving the Gift of Life!

I'm 16, but I've donated two times and both were amazing ^^
I got quite dizzy last time, but only because I didn't drink enough water. I love donating blood, and I shall continue to do so!

(I STILL don't know my blood type, though sweatdrop )

If you're in the U.S. the Red Cross will send you a nice little card for your wallet with your type on it. So I guess you must be from someplace else or they got your address wrong. gonk

My first donation was last semester around January. I'm a senior in high school. My first experience was odd, the person who was taking care of me broke the needle and my blood just started pouring all over the floor. It was pretty interesting. I don't know what my blood type is. I plan to donate in a couple of months when the Red Cross comes to my school again.

I want to donate blood but I'm under the weight limit.
I think it would be something great to do and I'd probably do it at least twice a year.. maybe I'll gain some weight in a couple years and actually be able to do it. ;p
If not.. oh well.. I'll just live vicariously through my boyfriend and make him give it!~

Donating blood has always been one of of those things I want to cross off in my list of "things to do before I die" and it's a lot harder than one would think because I'm also not heavy enough.

I'm pretty determined to do it at least once though since this goal has been on my mind for more than a decade. I usually say I'm trying to bulk up because of sports requirements and preferences but donating blood is also a reason, only I keep that one quiet because it sounds a bit weird.

Donating hair to wig makers endorsed by Canadian Cancer Society will suffice for now.
