It felt like he hadn't eaten in turns. Mornings with Bondyeth were always early; he demanded feeding and scratching as soon as the want struck him. Naturally, H'dek acquiesced, that was the sort of boy he was. Then there was oiling and checking his little dragon's hide. While the activities might seem simple, at first, it quickly came to H'dek's attention that nothing was easy when it came to his dragon.

Mine. I'm hungry, the bronze hissed, headbutting his as they headed back towards the weyr. I want to eat.

"I know. I know, Bondyeth. We'll get you fed in a few moments." H'dek sighed and mentally added an again, wondering if dragons were supposed to get hungry this quickly. Well, they were supposed to grow really fast, maybe that was part of it. The youth had just finished with him at the weyr lake and dear Farnath above, he would really like something to eat, too!

But I am hungry right now! And Bondyeth gave H'dek a much firmer push.

With little grace and less dignity, H'dek crashed into the dirt, unable to help the yelp of surprise. Bondyeth, too, gave a startled little squeak and hustled over to His, nosing the lad's side.

Mine! Mine! What did you do that for, you were not supposed to fall down!

L'mel had sent Dimeth up to the Weyr, allowing the blue lump to sleep in the early morning sunlight. It had been later in the afternoon down at Southern, and he had left bright and early for the sole purpose of sleeping on those warm sands in that blissful heat. It wasn't too far from Ista, and his absence probably hadn't been noticed, after all.

Humming a cheerful tune (his mood now much improved after his visit), L'mel begin to stride across the Weyrbowl, kicking up small flurries of dirt in his wake. He was looking forward to a big breakfast and flirting with a few of the women who would serve the food. Maybe he could even lure one back to his weyr later tonight... Dimeth snorted sleepily in his mind, registering his clear displeasure. Besides, Accident had seemed a bit proddy lately, and probably would not like the invasion of territory that went with women spending the night.

Speaking of Accident- the green fire lizard rose abruptly from her place on her rider's shoulder, chittering curiously, darting across the Weyrbowl and hovering over a rather orange figure. L'mel couldn't help but be intrigued- the fire lizard had jumbled emotions and was trying to send an image to him with limited success. She was easily excitable, but then, so was L'mel.

Shrugging, her approached the fallen Weyrling and offered his hand. "Bluerider L'mel. Fall on the way to feed your dragon?" That's what it looked like to him.

Bondyeth did not know what to make of the chittering flit. His wings flared and he hissed, backing up a little to stand over his rider protectively. It didn't really work, though, not with H'dek trying to get up right when the bronze decided to be the almighty defender. H'dek ended up back on the ground and Bondyeth landed in a heap nearby, squalling.

H'dek accepted the hand eagerly, bouncing to his feet as he glanced around. "Bondyeth knocked me down," he replied hastily, trying to figure out if his dragon was actually hurt, or if it was just that huge ego that took the blow. The dragon in question said absolutely nothing as he struggled to his feet, tucking his wings by his sides as he scuttled to his rider's side again.

Where was that blasted fire lizard?

H'dek's eyes widened a little; not having experienced the shared anger before. It had always been hunger or itch or sleepy, and maybe on occasion, a little bit of disdain, but he had never actually felt anger before. Perhaps he should just apologize and get out of here. Turning back to the bluerider, H'dek flushed a little and bowed his head. "Right sorry for disturbin' you an' yer firelizard, sir."

I'll get it! I'll teach that sharding creature!

L'mel laughed out loud as the bronzerider bounced right back up, though not with a few mishaps. The words he had spoken were what brought the laughter out of L'mel's mouth. This newly made Weyrling looked to be about L'mel's age when he had Impressed, and he could relate all too well to the trials and tribulations a newly made pair went through. It took a while to learn how to coordinate things as simple as walking with a dragon by your side.

"You didn't disturb my flitter. Accident disturbed you. She always sticks her nose where it doesn't belong, which is half the reason I ended up with her in the first place." L'mel sounded mock angry at the green flitt, who reappeared over his shoulder and perched there precariously, her tail wrapping around his neck for balance. Their Impression had none of the levity of L'mel and Dimeth's bonding moment, and twice the humor. L'mel loved Accident, but he still couldn't stand fire lizards in general. It was a curious contradiction.

"Do you have something I should call you, or will I know you as Weyrling?" L'mel knew better to flirt with Weyrlings, and bronzeriders to boot. They wouldn't respond in the way he liked, so he had a friendly, easy nature free of the sexual tension he usually put in his words. Dimeth evidently approved, sending sleepy thoughts of goodwill towards his rider.

See, you do not need to sleep with everyone to make friends.
But it just makes the friendship so much better!

"Oh, my name is H'dek. Sir!" H'dek looked around awkwardly, Bondyeth was of no help, the bronze was too busy grumbling at Accident. His rider, however, had no idea what to do! He'd been kept rather busy while he was a candidate, so busy, in fact, that the only people he interacted with were his fellow candidates. Oh sure, he'd seen plenty of riders, that was how he got to Ista in the first place, but he'd never actually had a conversation with one.

Finally, his bronze slunk back over, settling by his side but not before making his malcontent blazingly obvious. His tail whipped side-to-side, momentarily catching H'dek's attention before he remember he'd been talking to someone. Well, maybe he didn't know what to say to another rider, but good manners could never fail him, right? (If he was this flustered now, it was probably a good thing L'mel held off on the flirting, though, it would stand to reason he might not even realize what was going on. The only people that usually flirted with H'dek were silly girls.)

H'dek offered a hand and a firm smile. "H'dek and bronze Bondyeth, sir. And yourself?"

L'mel returned the Weyrling's firm handshake, proud of it as he was proud of all Weyrlings that seemed to be living up to their potential. A firm hand shake was a good start. All bronzeriders should possess at least that, if they were live up to what was expected of them, and the stereotypes their color dragon gave birth to.

"L'mel of blue Dimeth. He's no bronze dragon, but I don't think I'd do well at it anyway. I'm much more concerned in the pursuit of pleasure." L'mel gave a crooked grin, leaving ie entirely to H'dek's imagination as to what type of pleasure he could be referring to.

"But I've certainly been in your position. Dimeth was a big hatchling, even if he's only average size now. He had to eat constantly, and he could never sort out all his legs properly. The first few weeks are hard. If you need any help, please, don't hesitate to ask."

H'dek was slightly confused by L'mel's comment. Pursuit of pleasure? Did he just like an exceptional amount of....pleasure, or was the life of a bronzerider much harder than he imagined. "Correct me ifin m'wrong, sir, but...I was thinkin' bronzeriders were notorious fer their.....ahh....." H'dek colored slightly, trying to figure out how to phrase things his parents and other holders he'd known had said. ".....ah. Very....free wi' their favors?"

Bondyeth made an annoyed noise, something caught between a grunt and a snort, and bumped against his rider, causing the lad to only turn a deeper red. "Not that I intend t' follow tha'. Sir!"

Help? Us? Help? As if. Bondyeth snorted and gave this other rider the stinkeye. Help. Really? Did he not see Bondyeth? Did he not feel the gloriousness of the partnership?

H'dek, on the other hand, was not immune to a friendly offer of aid, especially when he had to deal with the little dragon at his feet. "Really? Tha's right kin' of ya." A pause, and a little frown. "Was, um, yer Dimeth real proud, sir? Was he frien'ly? Because, ah.....Bondyeth....well, he ain't that nice to th' others." H'dek really hoped he hadn't done something wrong, not so early in Bondyeth's life!

L'mel had never slept with a bronzerider, for a very good reason. It wasn't that he hadn't tried- it was just that those men were quite staunch in their heterosexuality. No matter. Dimeth couldn't have fun with a bronze dragon either, and L'mel much preferred males of the more feminine variety.

"Oh, aye. Bronzeriders are notorious for womanizing, but you'd be surprised by how few actually do. Most are fairly dedicated to their various women, but there are one or two that uphold that proud tradition, and continue it. All the rumors are based off of them." L'mel shrugged once, to let H'dek know that he didn't particularly care what bronzeriders did with their time, so long as it didn't concern him.

"But there's a great deal of responsibility that comes with a bronze dragon as well. A lot of your lot are made Wingleaders, and you have a chance to be Weyrleader one day. You'll have leadership classes that I never had to have, and I'm glad for it. I don't like responsibility. It doesn't suit me, and Dimeth would explode if he had to worry for so many other dragons." Ah, the every concerned Dimeth. If he had to worry about someone beyond his and Accident, it was quite likely the blue would have a draconic heart attack, if that was at all possible.

L'mel hadn't meant to be quite so sobering, but the lad may as well know what exactly he had gotten into. There was no turning back at this point, of course.

"Dimeth? He doesn't like other dragons. Well... It's not that he doesn't like them. He's just fairly indifferent. He only worries that they'll get him sick or hurt him in some way. He doesn't like the proud sorts, to be honest. He's rather a downer. But dragons come in all sorts. If your Bondyeth is like that... well, he's certainly entitled to a bit of it, being a bronze and all. But you can always talk some sense into him. Don't ever be afraid to reprimand your dragon."

H'dek listened quietly, leaning down to scratch Bondyeth's eye ridges in an attempt to keep the pushy youngling quiet. It occurred to him, sometime in time middle of L'mel's speech, that he had never had a proper conversation with a real dragonrider before. Well, he supposed he and his fellow weyrlings were dragonriders, but they knew about as much as he did when it came to dragon care. By the way it sounded, he certainly had turns more of learning to go.

"Oh. Alright. That sounds good, sir." He nodded, giving the bronze a thoughtful frown. He hadn't really tried to reprimand him yet, not beyond the occasional scolding when Bondyeth was being downright rude. "I was afrai'...well, I was afraid tha' might not be okay, 'er somethin'. I mean, he seems to think he's pretty special." H'dek chuckled a little. He'd never try to convince his bronze he was not the best dragon in the skies of Pern, because there was a very distinct possibility he might be, but he didn't need to listen to it all the time.

"How long 'til he sleeps long 'nuff fer me t' ge' a decent sleep?" he asked, suddenly realizing he could probably ask L'mel anything, and the man would know. That thought was followed shortly by a 'dear Farnath, I am being so nosy' and H'dek swallowed, rubbing the back of his neck. "Aaah, sorry, sir. I can stop askin' y'all questions n' what not, if y'all got somewhere t' be."
