I have been looking at things about the fourth game in the Fire Emblem series (And considered by many to be the best), Geneology of a Holy War. While many would like to see this game release in the United States, i'm afraid that might not happen without Fire Emblem fans screaming, "FOWL!"

While there is nothing wrong with the gameplay, my wories have to do with some of to context in the game.

For example.....

I am not certain, but perhaps some of the conversations that do lead to bed can get rather hot and bothered. I'd inagine that some of them are a little kinky.

FE4 deals with some tough stuff like depression, rape, incest, some things that might be considered too taboo here in the US of A.

Then there are the characters of Sylvia and Leen (Her daughter). If you have seen pictures of them, they dress rather scantly clad. It's almost as if these dancers (Their class) are used to working with a strippers pole. Perhaps these two might make FE4 too hot for American Eyes.

And then there's Julius (Or Yurius depending on the translation). He is one sick f**k. He makes me (Nergal) look like the freaking Pope! What kind of sick freak would try to sacrifice children?! Pehaps his extremely inhumane actions will prevent the US from getting this game legally.

So, I ask you, FEF People!

What other problem might holy war face that might prevent it from being localized?

And... how could Nintendo of America get around these proplems?

Even though it's true that there are some games that are too taboo for the United States and countries to be imported, there is one way that may or may not worked. That way is called "CENSORSHIP".

Like FOX and maybe other TV shows, they find ways to censor the things in the anime. For example, there are few things in One Piece that was censor by FOX such as blood, curse words, and Sanji's smoke (which turned into a lollipop.) Another things that some of the anime were censor were the weapons in hand disappearing (which seems stupid to kill someone or hold someone hostage bare-hand) and some of the clothing covering up the part (they don't want to make it too revealing or have sexual image in it)

Therefore, if the Holy War is decided to be imported to USA, the FCC would find some way to censor it. The gamer would have to add pixels to change the clothing of how the characters wear. And the translators would have to change the script to get around it. Even though it may get the game to get into the USA, it will screw up the original storyplot of the game.

Most things going into the US are heavily censored. (even with moral standards crumbling down around us)

Depressions would be ok, maybe even the mention of rape, unless it happens right in the game, but yes, the incest would totally be censored. Conversations in general will be toned down.

As for people who dress scantly clan.... have you SEEN older Mist or Marisa's art? And almost every FE girl has a fair amount on cleavage showing, unless they're bundled up. I'm going to doubt that would be something keeping it out of the US.

As for abominable acts, Nergal, you defiled nature and created blasphemous creatures with dark and evil magic, and sucked the quintessence from living people, like Elbert. In FE8, that one shaman guy used children as a hostage and sicked giant bael spiders on them. (Heck, in FE8, you had monsters and the demon king, who was not Satan, in general) In FE10, Jared orders the soldiers to attack the villagers, including the children. They might edit it so that it's not just children being sacrificed, or they might downplay it in general, but I don't think that would keep it out of the US.

And they could always stop rating their US games E 10+, and make it rated T or higher, like they should be.

You make it sound like a bad thing! surprised

I'm not sure if there are any more evil actions done by Julius, but I'm pretty sure he's the most evil FE villain of all.

Also, now that I think of it, I'm not really sure if the conversations in FE4 are really hot and bothered. sweatdrop

I think that a remake is entirely possible, what with FE11 in existence. But, it'd require a hell of a lot of lampshading.

Incest: It's all over the place. So, like, they'd either hide it in the translated versions, or just... I dunno, imply it on par with Ephraim/Eirika? Either way, that one is unavoidable.

Scantily Clad Women: Yeah, Rath hit the nail on the head with the official art. But, like, Sylvia, the first dancer in FE4, has a conversation with the green cavalier, Alec, where she flashes him. Yeeeeah, that'd be a bit hard to censor but still get the gist. Other than that, though, the conversations are nothing more than the simple A Support.

Julius: Yeah, he's a sick b*****d. But, like, he has evil, borderline-satanic blood nomming his sanity or something similar. And they can just replace 'child hunts and sacrifices' with just 'human hunts and sacrifices.' And that doesn't even seem all that bad in comparison to things like Persona 3's shooting in the head, or the WTF that I've seen from Devil May Cry.

But, like, overall, I'd say that if they DID bring FE4 to the states, they'd be able to conceal the oh-so-controversial topics in the game. The sibling/cousin incest can be shown as ginormous admiration. The 'rape' that's implied somewhere that I don't know of, probably Alvis/Diadora, can just be said as consensual, because it completely can seem as such if you play the game to the point where it becomes relevant. :3

Hahaha, she flashes him? That's hilarious! I'm sure it would get censored, though.

Oh, and let's not forget the years of torture that Titlyu goes through before she's finally allowed to die. ._.

Oh, and parental abandonment... Levin, here's to lookin' at you. Oh, yes, and patricide galore. Who could forget that Julius killed his own mother, tried to kill his sister, and that Lex is the best qualified to stick an axe through his father's (Langobalt) head?

That's gonna be sensitive material, pathetically enough, with America's 50% divorce rate.

Let's see...

Well, nothing's quite as traumatic as Albedo mindscrewing Momo in the first Xenosaga, methinks. ._.

Yeah, it plays out something like this:
Alec: "Why do you keep bugging me, little girl?"
Sylvia: "Would a little girl have THESE?" *flash*
Alec; "Ohai. *drools*"

Oh, and Alec has a turban.

At that rate, I HOPE they never translate it due to how censored it would be. At least there are ROMs.

Turban Man is the more Skill/Speed based of the two. Personally, I don't care much for either, but I liked Noish as a mate for Lachesis, so her son could be sword-awesome. :3
And you get so many mounted units in FE4 that the colorful cavaliers aren't special at all. Just in the PROLOGUE, you have... 10 units. Only TWO are footsoldiers, the rest are mounted. But, more of the later units are footsoldiers. Although, a large amount of THOSE promote to get horses. >_> BLAH BLAH BLAH, MOAR FE4 RANTING. OTL;;;

So there's more than one turban man besides Hardin? O: *doesn't know anything whatsoever about FE 4, except for Wiki spoilers*

You know, I realized that as much as people seem to like turban characters, Nergal never seems to get mentioned... confused

Sure, he's the villian, but let's not forget what happens to Hardin.
