Kadri - Skie
Aydin - Manda
Aydin - Manda
Ugh... crap ... Aydin hadn't felt this sick since the time both of them had accidentally eaten some snitched fruit that had gone a bit rotten on the inside. And at least -then- it had been both of them. Now... it seemed he was the only one sick, and Kadri was just fine.
Dizzy and stumbling a bit, he leaned on his twin as they were shown to a room and then quite literally collapsed on one of the beds with a little groan. Despite nothing being in his stomach anymore, he was nauseous and his head pounded, little stars flickering in his visiou when he shut his eyes. But the light was worse in a way - so he kept them shut.
The whole way to the room, Kadri had been murmuring little encouragements. Almost there... you can do it... I'm here... He didn't seem to be short on soothing words. Expression one of concern and sympathy, the apprentice turned candidate sank down to sit on the bed beside his brother and rub his back.
It would wear off, he was sure... Between had been a frightening thing, and while he'd been naseous to a degree, his brother seemed to have fared far worse then he did. "Aydin..."
Frowning, Kadri glanced at the door. "Want a cold cloth? I'll try to find one..."
Aydin swallowed and then nodded just a bit, keeping eyes shut. "That'd be good..."
Almost... -almost- ... he didn't even want to Impress a dragon now, if going between was like -that-. But... he knew that was stupid at the same time. Surely he'd get used to it. Especially if a dragon had said he could be a rider. They wouldn't Search someone who would be bad at it! Right?
Biting his lip, Kadri shook his head as he rose and mussed his brother's hair. "I heard someone commenting on you when we came in... said 'first timer?'. I think this is expected, will get better. And..." He smiled, "we'll get used to it once we've Impressed our own dragons."
A confident nod answered his own question before he turned and disappeared for a few moments.
Aydin smiled faintly at his twin's comment and nodded - even though the other was already out of the room. He sighed softly, carefully moving to pinch fingers on the bridge of his nose. It helped a little with the headache and he really -did- hope this went away soon. It was annoying and uncomfortable...
Several moments later, he came back with an uncertain expression on his face. It seemed like the halls were empty and what few people he did see were abuzz with expectation. Something was happening, he was sure of it.
Still... there were more important things then exploring and discovery right now and he sat, miserable, on the bed Kadri had left him in. Holding up the cloth for his twin, he bobbed it slightly before speaking, "Feel any better?"
Aydin cracked an eye open slightly and took that cloth from the other, laying it over his face. "A little maybe... my head really hurts. But I think maybe I could move now without throwing up again." He made a disgusted sort of face at that, nose wrinkling. "I can't believe you aren't sick at all ... this sucks."
"I... was sick." He smirked slightly, unable to hide his amusement, "A little, anyway, but then you vomited and... I have to take care of my little brother right?" Teasing slightly, he plunked down on the bed side his twin with a sigh.
Aydin smiled faintly at that, hitching himself up a little bit on the bed. "Oh ... dont' feel quite so bad about it now, I guess," he murmured. "And I'm not your little brother, we're twins!" This was a long and good-natured ongoing argument between the two. They really didn't know which of the was the 'younger' twin and which was the 'older', as their mother had been alone at home when they were born. They'd come early and unexpectedly ... but luckily the birth had been fairly easy and Amaline had been fine on her own.
"Paaah. I'm still older. And you know it!" Grinning he nudged Aydin's shoulder then stopped and blinked as the ground around them began to reverberate. It wasn't a frightening thing... really, not with the sounds they could hear. It was actually quite encouraging.
"What in the world...?" Standing, he reached out to press a hand against the wall in stunned confusion and only then did he notice that their firelizards were no where in sight, "Where's Feli and Cene? What's going on...?" Poking his head out the door, he saw a few people now scrambling in their hurry to go somewhere.
"Excuse me!" He waved and caught one woman's attention, "What's going on?"
"...You don't know?" She blinked in surprised, "The Hatching! All the Candidates need to be there, the Queen's summoned everyone." And that was all she said before she disappeared down the hallway.
"Queen..." He pursed his lips for a long moment, turning to look at his still-incapacitated brother, "The Hatching's starting apparently." With a great sigh, he sank down into a seat and smiled at his brother, "Guess we'll try the time, hn?"
When Aydin heard that, though, he made quite a good attempt at scrambling up off the bed. "But!" he protested, taking a few steps toward the door before he got really dizzy again and stumbled toward a wall. He wasn't even thinking about being sick right now ... it was a -Hatching- that's what they were here for, they should go! Now!
"Shards Aydin! Stop!" In a blink, he'd caught his brother and was holding him close as he frowned deeply, almost glaring at the other, "What do you think you're doing? You can barely open your eyes. A dragon will eat you if you're like this." Fairly dragging his twin back to the bed, Kadri prodded him, "Stay here. Rest. We'll attend the next Hatching."
Aydin struggled for just a moment or two more before he tired out, muttering weakly, "But ... but ..." Finally, though, he let Kadri get him back to the bed - but then shoved at the other. "You go then! I ... I'll be okay. You shouldn't miss it because of me..."
"No." The word was hard, short and bold, matching the look in his eyes. Clearly, he'd made his choice and when Kadri made up his mind, he was as stubborn as a mule. "When have we ever done something apart? There will be another hatching... I think... if our dragons were in this clutch, we'd have been there. But we're not. So I'm staying here. Now shut up and getter you fool."
Aydin winced at the tone in the other's voice but then finally ... relaxed with a tentative little nod. "I ... guess so," he murmured softly. Dragons didn't know -everything- but if they hadn't even gotten here until this close to the hatching, there had to be some reason for it. Probably there would be another one sometime... hopefully. And he thought that he vaguely remembered something about candidates being allowed to stay at a Weyr until they were twenty one or something to try and Impress. Well... he wasn't leaving now unless he had to.
And neither was Kadri. He wasn't upset... not really. There would be another clutch, he was sure, and in the meantime they could learn about their new home. "I'm not upset, don't make that face. I'd rather you be well." He laughed, "Besides, I'd never hear the end of it if I Impressed a dragon before you did."
Aydin smiled a bit at that and sat up a little more - starting to feel better now. But he wouldn't make the mistake of running around again anytime soon. "You're right, you wouldn't ... and I'd never leave you and your dragon alone. I'd be suuuuch a pest..." He wouldn't -really-, but joking about it was fun anyway. Aydin really hoped that whenever one of them did Impress, they did so together. It wouldn't really be much fun for one of them to get a dragon before the other... or ... even for one to never Impress at all...
"You would. Singing all the time and luring away my dragon! I'd never be able to train!" Chuckling as he bemoaned the troubles of a brother, Kadri shook his head and smiled. He too hoped that if they did Impress, they did so together. "I wonder if we can still train as Apprentices here too... in between this and the next Hatching."
Aydin frowned slightly at that. "I dunno... I don't think they'd want us to go back and forth ... that'd be a lot of trouble for the dragons. Buuut maybe if there's a Harper or two here somewhere, they could help us?"
He nodded, "Yah, that's what I was thinking. Like back home.... informal lessons. Could maybe even visit the Hall at some point... and learn the songs and music for the history of this place. We're supposed to know that stuff... or at least supposed to be learning it anyway."
Aydin nodded at that thoughtfully, making a little humming noise. "Yea... maybe," he replied, perking up a little. "Once all the excitement about the hatching is over we'll have to see if there's a Harper here... "
He nodded his agreement, as he as he pulled his legs up onto the bed and wrapped arms about his knees as he leaned against his twin. They'd always been close, even for twins, and even though it wasn't blatantly obious, Kadri was worried about Aydin. If this happened the first time... what about the next time? He frowned.
Aydin tilted head a little at the other, sensing that Kadri was thinking some kind of dark thoughts. "What's wrong?" he asked after a moment or two of silence. He didn't like when the other was upset...
You're sick. Isn't it obvious?" He frowned as he glanced at the other, lips tightly pressed together. "What if... that happens again? If you're sick. Or worse. You really think it was a good idea to come here? I don't like between."
Aydin sighed softly. "Well ... there's no reason to assume that it would happen again... right?" he asked, though he still sounded a little bit doubtful. "I didn't like it either, but if we want to be riders, we'll have to put up with it... I still want to try..." However, if Kadri would rather just go back to Harper Hall ... well ...
I want to be a rider.... that's why we were searched, yeah?" He pondered that for a moment, "Probably just fly everywhere, you think they'd allow that? Avoid it all together... don't have to 'get used' to it at all." He smiled hopefully.
Er... I don't think that would work for fighting Thread, though..." Aydin replied, fiddling with the bedcovers a bit. "Because we would have to get there fast sometimes, and the whole wing couldn't wait on us to fly all the way..."
“Mn... but if we were good enough? They'd wait for us... or..." He grinned, imagining the scene play out in his head, "what if were charged in to the rescue! On a green, brown... blue... maybe even a bronze! And saved the day? They'd have to wait for us then."
Aydin blinked and then laughed at that. "Maybe so..." he replied, smiling. Really, he didn't think it would happen in reality ... but it made a nice tale. "Hey we could write a song like that! Maybe... I mean, a funny one."
"Hmn...." He nodded, obviously thinking that over seriously, "As disaster drew nigh, The charge of a bronze, valiant and bold, came down from on high~" Singing out the makeshift phrase, he grinned at his brother. He loved to sing... just... not really by himself in public. Much preferred to sing duets.
Aydin nodded enthusiastically. "Yea, exactly!" Thinking for a moment, he considered more lyrics. "The hold-fold below sent up a cheer, for the brave dragonrider who saved them from tears..."
“The dragons, they sang of bravery and knew, for all the Weyr had beheld, the flight of the Saviour Crew~" He'd paused at the end, trying to find an appropriate rhym and chuckled at what came out, "Oh, the Saviour Crew."
Aydin also laughed at that, shaking head a bit. "Can just two people be a crew, though?" he wondered out loud, reaching over to poke the other. "Oh! Or are you talking about the Crew being an entire wing?"
"Maybe... if it was a whole flight that was so inept it came out on top. Heroes by air, fools by ground... or perhaps a little of both." He moved to poke the other back, then remembered his sore stomach almost too late. "Hey! I can't fight back! This isn't fair."
"Exactly!" Aydin pointed out, in response to the not-fair comment. Then he leaned over and proceeded to poke his twin -more-, obviously feeling quite a bit better now than he had before.
Jerking away from those fingers, he couldn't help laugh. He was terribly ticklish... "Hey! Aydin! You brat!" Grabbing a pillow, he boffed the other on the head and mock-glowered at him, "If you're well enough to do that, you're well enough for me to react!"
Aydin immediately pouted at the other, shrinking down against the bed. "Aww but Kaaadriiii..." he whined, eyes widening into a patented cute and innocent look.
Kadri made a face, "We have the same face, and I perfected that with you... I'm immune!" Proceeding to pounce the other, he half-heartedly wrested with his brother. Really... you would have thought he knew that. They were identical twins after all.... Hm. Pulling back, he mimicked the other's cute and innocent look, "Seeeee? But Aydiiiiin."
Aydin couldn't help but laugh at that, wriggling away with a little protesting noise. He wasn't -quite- so ticklish as Kadri was, but his twin knew exactly where to poke and prod him to get the best effects. Slapping at the other playfully when Kadri pulled the face in return, he grinned. "Well... I do feel better now, anyway..."
"Good, because I'm hungry. You hungry?" He smiled as he settled down and showed mercy to Aydin. "I could go look for something to eat."
Aydin started to shake his head and then paused. "Uhm... actually, yea... though you'd think I wouldn't be," he murmured. So ... maybe this -was- more like the time they'd accidentally picked up some rotten fruit. Once that had been out of their systems they'd both been hungry again after an hour or so.
"Alright." He rose and half-heartedly cuffed the other up the side of his head before walking out the room, his flits chattering around him with scolding tones as if he'd somehow abandoned them when they'd simply been too distracted to follow him into the guest room. "Be right back!" He called over their noises and chuckled at the angry!relieved emotions his flits were broadcasting.
