"Oh MAN did you see the Ulduar previews?? Friggin' SWEET!" the brown-haired teen on the other side of the counter exclaimed as his purchase was rung up.

"I know, right?" Kendall smiled, punching buttons on the register. "Too bad the day it comes out the servers are gonna be up and down more than a hooker on a see-saw."

Laughter from both of them. Then a total being given, money exchanging hands, and the games being stuffed into a plastic bag.

"Thanks, see ya next time." the young man said with a cordial wave as the customer departed. As soon as he was gone, Ken vented a sigh, grabbing up the inventory clipboard to continue what he'd been doing before the interruption.

Clearly he hadn't thought this whole 'manager' thing through before accepting it. Foremostly, now he was not only dealing with his new responsibilities, but also doing his -old- job on top of it while waiting for a new applicant to fill the position he'd once occupied.

There was a new shipment to take inventory of, there were damaged games that needed to be sent back to the manufacturer, there were trade-ins that needed to be logged and re-priced for the shelves, and then if he had time he needed to call the district office and check in with whether or not they'd gotten him on the new payroll yet or not...

Good times.

Sei was bored.

It was a fact of his daily life lately - it was a good kind of bored, a nice little safe kind of bored that did not involve reminders of his past and how it was coming to bite him in the a**. But the fact remained that the teen had little to no idea to do with his time beside basically burning the computer screen straight into his retinas.

He's taken to daily walks a few weeks ago, and found that he rather enjoyed them. At first he'd just walked all over the place with little to no purpose, but quickly a few spots had became favorites - one of these just happened to be the store Kendall worked in. The first few times he'd actually spent long lenghs of times in the store, he'd gotten quite a few stares and was thought to be a thief, as he seemed always silent, though talking to him seemed to have sparked something that had made him open up, so to speak, and not only had he been proven to be decent company, but kept himself out of the way and was even helpful in his own little way once the shop got swamped, his near-daily visits where now part of routine. He'd found, on the flipside, that it was nice to be around people that where not fa'e - people that did not ask questions and mostly thought of him as normal, or at least as normal as gaia went.

The fa'e stopped at the door to kick the mix of water and snow from his soaked sneakers before stepping inside the store.

Ken's ears snapped down momentarily at the sound of the door's front bell jingling to signal the arrival of someone else. Ugh, where were they all coming from and why did they all show up when he had stuff to do? It wasn't even a weekend....

Looking over his shoulder, though, he relaxed a bit as he saw a familiar face. Well....sort of familiar, at least. He'd never caught the guy's name before, but he was one of the people Kendall associated with "the regulars". He seldomly bought anything, and Jody had sometimes thrown a fit at him during closing about 'that gray kid' who was loitering in the shop.

He'd been asked, more than once, to tell him to either buy something or get out, but Kendall had never really had the stones to do it. He wasn't like the usual hang-arounds he ended up having to chase out almost daily who hogged the demos and knocked boxes off of the shelves while talking at the top of their voices to one another.

He was just....well....nice.

"Hey, man." Ken greeted Sei, tilting him a wave before looking back to the clipboard once more.

"Hey." Came the answer, simple and to the point really. He'd seen that person work before, but hadn't really been one of the clerks he'd talked to. None of those seemed to be working, actually - perhaps he should go on his way, really...

But he'd seemed friendly enough. "Kind of wish all that snow would finally melt." He shrugged. Sei had not quite yet mastered the art of casual conversation.

"Heh, yeah..." Kendall nodded in agreement. "Its not even much of snow anymore really, its some kind of gray mush that's been hanging around since last month."

At least it wasn't ice, though. While it kept the majority of his daily dose of idiots away, it didn't change the fact he still had to drive home in it in the end.

"You looking at any new releases?" he asked, batting the conversational ball back into Sei's court.

"Hm-n." the blonde nodded, tilting his head to take a better look at Kendall. "Maybe. Still waiting for Dissidia to come out, but that ain't for another few months. Gotta find something to fill the time till then, you know ?" It did not help that his guild, lately, had been major brats, and he'd been doing his best to distance himself from them... even the day-long walks.

"Yeah I know what you mean." he nodded, tapping the point of the pencil lightly over several unchecked boxes, seeking the one he needed before placing an "X" in it. "I keep waiting for Patch 3.1, but I'm thinking I might pick up Resident Evil five in the meantime or something. Its been awhile since I've actually sat down and played anything on a console."
PostPosted: Tue Mar 24, 2009 6:56 am

The words "patch 3.1" might have been lost on most people, but it was part of a jargon that was now very similar to the blonde teenager, and one pointed ear perked slightly. "You play WoW ?" He should probably seen it coming, expecially given where he was, and how many people were playing now. He'd started to play to, what else... pass the time, of course.

And it also helped people on the other side of ventrillo couldn't ask him why he had a creepy glare from hell. Though if he forgot to push some emotion in his voice, things got... interesting. But with how he was getting used to interact, it was happening less and less. "Which server ?"

Kendall cracked a grin. A fellow Warcrack fanatic.

Not that he didn't meet plenty in his line of work....and he'd been asked that particular question several times, usually ending with a promise to look him up sometime. None of them ever did, though, and it really didn't bug him much. He wasn't sure he really wanted to do his daily quests basking in the company of Xxbuxomchikxx, after all....

....especially not after having seen what "she" looked like in person first.

"I have two." he told Sei. "I hide on Zangarmarsh, and my raiding main's on Daggerspine. What do you play?"

It was like the geek's equivalent to 'what's your sign?'

"Paladin on Scryers, mostly." He had a few other characters, there and there, but little motivation to actually play them. "Tank mostly, but I heal sometimes. Im not very good at it yet." Not did he honestly planned to become any good at it anytime soon, for he knew it would end up with him playing musical specs even more often.

"Bunch of other alts there and there to pass the time, but I always seem to forget they exist."

"Heh....I could never get into paladins. I salute whoever can actually level one to endgame." he said, trying to focus on his work and finding his attention divided between what needed doing and his favorite conversational topic.

"My main's an orc warrior. I made her a girl because, for the life of me, I never see female orc -anything-..." He paused to count the number of stock on the shelf and make note on the clipboard. "How's the raiding on Scryers?"

...and the important question "Horde or Alliance?"
PostPosted: Tue Mar 24, 2009 6:04 pm

"Horde. It could be worse I guess... It's a rp server, so lagging a bit behind in general as they tend to do. There's more alliance than horde, again as usual. You can find good guilds if you look for them, but there's a massive shortage of tanks and healers, at least good ones." He shrugged. "Ill like... log on and get a bunch of whisper asking me to leap guilds because I tanked a pug the night before, it's starting to drive me nuts to be honest." He glanced over the top of the counter. "Hey, if im keeping you away from doing your work, don't worry about telling me, ill go get a coffee somewhere or something."

"Oh....hey, don't even worry about it." Ken assured him. "Its starting to wind down and I've got til closing to get this all taken care of."

Which was in another three hours. He unconsciously drummed the eraser of the pencil against the top sheet, chewing his lip as red-and-gold eyes scanned what the black print dictated still needed doing before he could leave. "Would help if this wasn't a slump-time for apps...." He muttered to himself.

Actually, the applications themselves weren't what was in a slump. Those were coming in with just as much regularity as they always did. It was the APPLICANTS that left something to be desired. As of three days ago, he'd taken his first cluster of interviews.

After weeding through all of the useless, incomplete, and unreadable applications, there'd been five to choose from. He'd left messages on all of their voicemails, had gotten three call-backs, of which two had actually shown up. One had been covered head-to-foot in tattoos and piercings and had gotten hostile when reminded of the company's dress code. The other had been a mousey girl who had been so nervous and quiet, she'd made HIM look outgoing. Not someone cut out for dealing with the loud idiots they sometimes got screaming about wanting Playstation Wiis or Super Xboxes at all. Not to mention the clumsy, often-rude, advances she'd get solely for being a girl working at a game store.

Thankfully it was only still spring. He still had a bit of time before the summer rush when he'd HAVE to pick the prettiest leper in the colony to fill the gap his promotion had left.

No wonder Jody always had looked tired.

"Really ?" The teen's interest was definitively perked now. "I've been trying to find a job for months now, everyone seems full on people lately, I guess the high school kids got their applications in early or something ? Coffee shop down the street almost hired me, but they didn't want to hire me full time, so it was kinda not worth it." Maybe they'd thought he was trying to drop out of school or something. Meh.

"Most employers seem to find me too weird... It's not like I can leave my eyes at home or something, or bleach my face off !" It had been frustrating at first, but as it was now, he just found it hilarious. Gaia, of all places ? Good luck finding normal people.

At this. Kendall gave a snerk, raising his eyes to look at Sei. "I dunno if you've noticed, but I'm not exactly Normal McNormington myself." he said, making a brief sweeping gesture with one hand that covered his ears, tail, and eyes. "Takes all kinds to make a place like this work."

It was a funny discrepancy on the employment forms, really....while Gamecrazy did not want its employees displaying any noticeable piercings or tattoos, it said nothing about any of the OTHER odd features that often came with Gaia's denizens. Demon horns, beast ears/tails, wings, or in Sei's case a personal galaxy of floating purple orbs and exposed circuitry? That was all cool as long as you met the customer service expectations.

Gaia was a weird place sometimes...

"If you wanted to fill out an application or something..." he offered. "I mean, I can't GUARANTEE anything, because I'm still kind of new to this and if I don't go by the books they're going to be all over me, but...."

But if you fill it out legibly, actually show up to the interview on time NOT wearing a potato sack you found under a bridge, and look me in the eye while I ask these stupid hiring questions, you'd already be heads above the competition...
