Where had that darn gazelle fallen?

Poking his large head through a tall clump of grass, Zeus grumbled to himself in annoyance. He'd given it a hard swipe when he'd ambushed it, enough to put it out for good, but it had gotten a last burst of fatal energy and bounded into some bushes over a ravine and out of his sight. Now, instead of enjoying a fresh meal, he was forced to tramp through the tangle of growth to look for it, getting hot and tired in the search. The tall three that loomed over the dried stream bed did a little to shade, but it wasn't enough.

The orange stripped male sniffed at the air, trying to find the trail of blood it must have been leaving, and pushed his way through the grass and brush, making his way carefully down into the sides of the stream bed. He slid a little on the loose dirt, but ended up at the bottom none the worse for wear.

Thankfully, there was the gazelle, laying where it had fallen when it went over the edge. Grinning now, Zeus went to retrieve his prize.

Nona wasn't too far off from the gazelle, and the lion hunting it. She had no clue what was going on even, but all she knew is that she could smell blood in the distance. And just had to check it out, but not because she was hungry. But because something in her just told her to go, to check it out.

So she quickly made her way closer to where the smell was coming from, and trying to make as little noise possible. Soon she found herself so close to the smell, but she dare not go any further then what she was, or even come out of hiding.

Zeus bent low to wrap his great jaws around the slip of a gazelle, lifting it easily as he turned to look for a good way out of the crack in the savannah. He frowned, finding the walls high enough he couldn't just jump them, as was his first inclination.

The bloody meat in his jaws overwhelmed his sense of smell and hid the unseen viewer from him, letting her watch uninterrupted as the disgruntled lion went to climb up the bank. He grunted around his mouthful as he struggled, his broad spread paws doing little in the way of traction. Every time he tried to pull himself up, sand rained down and bits of earth broke away, falling back on him. A leap put him up higher, but he slid down again before he could gather himself for another jump.

Finally, he had to drop his meal and stand panting, glaring at the earth that so foiled him. He could probably make the leaps necessary if he didn't have the gazelle in his mouth, but he'd be damned if he left it here and it was too awkward to carry up.

Nona soon saw the lion, going at his prey. And decided it would be best to just stay as quiet as possible until he left. So she just kept on eye on him, and watched him try to climb his way out from where they were. But instead she got to see his many failed attempts.

And was starting to wonder when he would leave, so she could come out from hiding. And why she even bothered to come check out the scent from the gazelle's blood to begin with. But she stayed put, only moving to readjust herself from time to time.

But this time as she moved, she unknowligly kicked a small rock. And the noise that came from it was noticeable, but how she hoped he didn't notice.

The fall of the rock was noticeable past the fall of the ones he kicked loose. Zeus froze, sliding a little down the side as his ears perked up and tracked around him. After a moment, he dropped his gazelle between his forepaws and licked his jaws as he took a careful look around him. As far as he could tell there was no wind to knock anything loose, and that meant someone was nearby, maybe even within sight...

"Who's there?" He called out as he thought he caught a darker shape in the brush, something thankfully smaller than he was. Zeus wasn't the type to fear much, or really worry about anything attacking him, thanks to his size, bit was better to be safe. All in all, he'd be more comfortable knowing what was in the ravine with him.

Flicking his tail, he turned to put his back to the wall, standing up as tall and proud as his namesake.

The lion clearly knew she was there now, though she wished he didn't. But it was too late for that, as she stupidly kicked a rock and made noise. And as she wanted to avoid as much conflict as possible, she decided to come out from hiding.

"I am." Nona replied. And she slowly started to came out from the place where she was hiding, with her head down. And hoped that he would let her go, without trying to start anything.

The orange male relaxed almost instantly when he saw the lovely form emerge from the brush. A leopardess? How exotic... he hadn't seen, or enjoyed, one of them in a rather long while.

Leopardesses were much different than lionesses, which was all to the good when you were looking for something to spice up the buffet of femininity, but when it came down to it, female was female. And anything female was high up on his priority list of things.

A grin broke out as he fully relaxed, stepping down from his defensive perch to sweep her what could be called a gentlemanly bow, his dark mane brushing his face as his voice rumbled deep in his chest.

"Well, hello! I apologize if I sounded snapish, just now. If I'd known such a lovely lady was nearby, I would have taken myself better in hand and given you the courtesy you deserve." He layered the flattery on a little thick, hoping to cover up his earlier sharpness.
