((I am so sorry this took so long to set up! I got pulled away last night ;.; )) It had been foolish for her to try and cross the river where she had and the spider lily mare was now paying the price. She lay just outside the forest by the sandy river bank. A few tears had welled up in her eyes but they wouldn't fall. If they started she new that they wouldn't stop and she would really be in sad shape then. Slowly she turned her head to gaze down at her right hind leg that was throbbing in pain.
The weather had been warming up so she had decided to leave her little grassy patch that had served as a make shift home through the winter and fall. The bit of land had been surround on either side by a forked river and to the south the great waters. She had wanted to go somewhere shady for the warmer months and she had wanted to get there quickly. The mare hadn't been paying enough attention to the rocks beneath her feet and she had slipped and fallen. Her hind leg had gotten caught and now she wasn't sure what had happened. All she knew was that it hurt and that she wasn't moving anywhere any time soon.

The young Kanati had lost his father many months ago. He was a lone, but the spirits they were his family now. They were the only ones that mattered. His eyes were always distant and he would easily pass by any soquili in his path. There were a few things that still mattered though he still had to eat and he still had to drink.
Carefully taking the path he believed the wind to be leading him on Kanati went towards the nearest water source. There he saw the injured mare, but he gave her not a second glance. Kanati leaned his head down to drink his ears twitching all the while.

When another horse appeared on the scene for a moment Lycoris thought she was in luck. He did not carry the traits of the killers that she had been warned about so long ago. While he did have some rather unusual features, a tail like a cats and a single horn protruding from his head. The moment of hope was very brief as he took no notice of her at all.
A pang of sadness echoed in her heart as she was ignored. This feeling was all too familiar to the poor mare. The feeling of being so unimportant that she didn't get a simple hello. It hurt a bit but she imagined it was not right of her to think that way. Just because she was injured didn't mean anything. Not everyone was friendly and saying anything would probably just be inconveniencing them.
Glancing down at her foot once more she moved it experimentally. Pain shot up her leg and she winced then whimpered. Still hurt. "Ummm...pardon me...do...is there anyone about that...could help...?" She asked quietly worrying her lip a little. She felt strange asking for assistance. It was, after all, her own fault that she was hurt. It would make sense that she would have to suffer through her mistake.

Kanati lifted his head still twitching his ears as the mare spoke. Slowly his eyes drifted to the mare and seemed to blink awake as though he was noticing her for the first time. What did she want? Help? Help for what? He looked about wondering just who she was speaking to, she couldn't be speaking to him right? They weren't family, they didn't matter to each other, right? Of course right!
Kanati started to turn away, but rather it was deep down guilt was stirring or a spirit really was whispering in his ear, he couldn't look away.
"Hmm?" Kanati mumbled walking up to the female to look at her better. He stared at the hoof that was being held weird. "You're hurt?" It was rather obvious that she was, but Kanati was trying to understand what to do for her. Did she have family he should fetch for her or should he try his healing powers, he never had reason to use them before, he wasn't so sure they would work.

Hope lit up her eyes as he turned towards her. It seemed like he had just noticed her when she spoke. Perhaps she had been assuming to much earlier thinking that he had purposefully ignored her. While it wasn't that much better being overlooked was nicer then being shunned. Still the hope was short lived as he moved to turn away from her.
She imagined a little butterfly being crushed. It seemed fitting at the moment. She looked away from him for the moment feeling rather stupid for even thinking to ask for assistance. Then she heard him moving. It was assumed that he was leaving except that the sound was drawing near and not fading away.
Hearing his voice she looked back and couldn't help but smile gratefully. He hadn't left. "Yes...I slipped when crossing the river." She said slowly. He hadn't asked for an explanation but she felt he probably deserved to know what had happened.

Kanati mumbled to the spirits he thought he heard and looked at her leg. The spirits seemed to agree that he should help her in some way, but could he use his powers?
"Is....is...there family you want me to get for you?.......Or is it ok if I try and help you?" Kanati's voice faded in and out from deep to timid. He wasn't used to talking with other soquili and his experience so far with those not in his family had not been a pleasant experience. They had mocked him for the way he attacked would she do the same if he tried to heal her?

A single brow raised in slight confusion at his mutterings. She couldn't understand a word he was saying and she wasn't even sure it was her he was speaking to. For a moment she wondered if she should be worried for herself and possibly his sanity. When he began to speak to her she found herself blinking a few times for a multitude.
Having her family mentioned being the first. No, there was no real family for him to get. She had left them all behind. Not that they would have come even if asked. They probably wouldn't come to her aid even if begged. The second was the way his voice kept changing like he was scared of her or something. This she couldn't wrap her mind around. She was lying on the ground, injured and clearly had nothing to defend herself with. He seemed alright and had a rather sharp looking horn.
After a long silence she shook her head slowly. "Don't bother with my family...but...if you can...please help me?" How exactly he planned to help her was a mystery to her like so many things in the world.

Kanati stepped back one as the mare looked at him in silence. Had he said something wrong? Did she think he was crazy like the rest of them? He was starting to regret having talked to her, but it seemed like the right thing to do.
"Don't bother......with family?" Kanati did not understand what she meant by that. How could one not bother with family if they had it. Right? "I can help you....I hope.....,but what do you mean don't bother with family?.....My...name is Kanati, by the way."
Kanati stepped so that he was now leaning over the mare. He closed his eyes trying to remember how his mother had healed him before. Kanati took a deep breath before leaning his head down. His horn tip touched the injured leg, feeling cold at first, but it seemed to warm up quickly.
".......Sp...Spirits of the earth and sky grant me the power to heal this mare of her pain." Kanati could feel the healing power surge from him to the mare. Opening his eyes he gave Lycoris a curious look, he had felt something, but had it worked? ".....Well?"

She gave her head another shake to confirm. “Right. Don’t bother thinking about it.” He was confused about them, she could tell, but she did not want to trouble him with further information. It was not the time or place for such conversation.
Moving on to other things. Important things. Like that he ‘hoped’ he could help her. That worried her a considerable amount. The way he had said it sounded like he wasn’t sure he could help her at all. “I’m Lycoris.” She said with a gulp not answering his question. As far as she was concerned the subject was painful and did not need to be spoken about.
When he approached her and lowered his horn to her leg her eyes went wide with panic. Never having met a unicorn before she had no idea what their powers were. When he began speaking to the spirits her eyebrows shot up. What exactly was he doing? Then warmth began to spread from his horn to her leg.
Lycoris blinked a few times as the feeling subsided. Well? She looked at her leg and moved it experimentally. There was a little pain but it felt more like it was simply a little sore now. “You...! It...it doesn’t hurt anymore.” She said looking at him feeling rather confused. When she had asked for help she hadn’t quite imagined this. She was curious how exactly he had accomplished this amazing feat and as she slowly stood she voiced this curiosity. “The...spirits?”

How could she dismiss family so easily? What could cause someone to feel that way about the only ones who could ever really care for you? Or was there more to it? Had she lost her family like he had? Either way Kanati could tell that she wasn't about to talk to him about it. And why should she?
"You don't know about spirits?" Kanati choked staying at her. He wanted to walk away from her then and there. What use was a non believer to him? One who had forgotten the ways of the world was as bad a forest fire. Still, something held him in his place. Closing his eyes, he thought about rather to walk away or say anything more.
"There are many spirits, spirits of the earth, spirits of the sky, spirits of the sea, even evil spirits or sgina. There are also gods, creators of this world and bringer's of the harvest. Long ago the god's found it fit to grant the unicorns like myself with the power to heal, just as the granted the winds with wings to fly. You have them to thank for your healing, not me so I'll be on my way. Good bye Lycoris....it was an...interesting meeting." With that Kanati turned and walked away feeling a little different or odd after the whole encounter.
