Character Application

Name: Sonya
Age: 15 Turns
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Hetrosexual
Craft: N/A
Rank: Candidate

Personality In a line - Sonya is caring but clumsy. In everything she does, she always tries her best, though on several occasions fail, but not because of her lack of knowledge, just because the simple mistake of knocking something over, or getting lost in something else. This has never held her back though, she has always been very determined, when she wants something, if it’s just the work that’s needed, she'll get it. The only problem with her clumsiness is that she isn't trusted much by her family, and often needs a little reassurance because she starts anything.

Sonya can get quite emotional from time to time, easily bursting in giggles when something is successful, or crying when everything seems at a loss, she gets frustrated easily but this only motivates her to do more and better. Luckily for those around her, she tends to try and keep her emotions to herself, running off to cry, to stifling giggles, and muttering any insult.

As Sonya isn't trusted with much back home, she spends a lot of her time away from it, as advised by her older brother. She is often found at the markets running errands, or out in the woods, sketching animals and observing their behaviour. Sonya believes that work and play should always be equal, unless circumstances change for the worse. This was not something she was brought up with, but more of her own idea on life with her brother.

Physical Description: Sonya having had a lot of time to herself worked hard on keeping slim and fit though without gaining any more physical strength than she was born with. Her hair is a dark brown, almost black in colour, which she likes to weave plants such as lavender into. Due to an accident in the kitchen though, Sonya's hair only just reaches her shoulders and is very chopperily cut. One of her favourite traits is her pale skin, as she was told was a rarity to find a girl with dark hair and pale skin. To match her skin tone are her crystal blue eyes, though she doesn’t personally notice, with more light they seem to pale, the opposite in the dark. Although Sonya has a girly attitude to most things, this is not so much shown by her figure and clothing choice. She tends to wear rough clothes has she’s always ruining, making her look even less curvy than she currently is, this doesn’t really bother her though, until, that is a boy she likes is about. To balance things up a little, she has very soft facial features, rosy cheeks blending in well with her clear skin, and rose petal lips.

History: Sonya's family would of had things a lot easier without her, but she was loved throughout her childhood all the same. Her family worked on a vineyard, each member taking on a different task, other than Sonya herself. The plants were tended to by her mother, her brother would harvest the crop, crush and watch over the fermentation, while her farther would taste, bottle, and sort the finances out.

Sonya has tried to help on several occasions, often, messing a mess of it in one way or another. Once she had managed to set a light to the basement, by bringing a candle down there to read, another time, she bottled the wrong grapes making foul tasting wine. Each time she did something wrong, she was shunned and so spent more and more time learning other skills, often this causing even more trouble. There were a few things she was good at, such as collecting the grapes in the first place, or helping crush the grapes with her brother, though this was ignored as childish fun.
Receiving no praise and more punishment than reward Sonya separated herself from everyone but her brother who she was so fond of. In her eyes, she wanted to free herself up, so she had the chance to start anew, whether that was wine or elsewhere.

Ever since Sonya has been searching for a way to prove herself again. When her eyes first landed upon a female dragonrider, she knew exactly how she wanted achieve this. Sonya since then has worked hard on trying to understand human-animal interactions, as well as rider-dragon interactions, and when not running errands, working on keeping fit, in hopes of one day, one day she may form a bond between herself a dragon and gain respect for herself as well as her family.

Pets: Although Sonya has a love of animals, her family chose never to have a pet in case it disturbed the wine making process.

Other/Talents: Quick to pick up and understand new skills, but a little slow to carry them out well.

Honestly, Sonya seems to be a little bit... unbalanced. I'm sure that's not how you meant her to be, but her personality description as it stands sounds almost like she has some sort of Down's syndrome or autism, neither of which would be conducive to being a Candidate. You might want to tone down how accident prone and awkward she is, because right now, it's to that extreme.

Also, you reference machines in your character's history, but there wouldn't be any on Pern without AIVAS- they would just have the basics, like ploughs and what not.

Wasn't meant to make her too disasterious, just wanted to make her a little different. I've tried toning it down a little throughout.

Oh and the reference to the machine, was just a lack of knowleage. I was thinking of the fermenting stage, which is pretty much where you leave the grapes in a large barrel for a while, occansionally 'stirring' it. Thats changed now though.
