Egg Design Contest!

Yes, you read that correctly. biggrin We here at ATWoP are being extraordinarily lazy generous and giving one of you guys the chance to write an egg description for the upcoming clutch, which will be Tropical Fish themed. You guys wanted a chance, and now you're getting one. biggrin

Going with the Tropical Fish themes, there are three you CANNOT pick, because I have already written eggs based around their appearance:
Mandarin dragonet
Javanese Damsel
Lunare Wrasse. Other than that, you can choose any tropical fish to base your idea around.

Some things to bear in mind:
1. While the colors of the fish reflect on the egg, they will NOT reflect on the dragon within. So if you choose a fish because it's a solid, electric pink, realize that the dragon inside the egg would be translated into a rather solid, boring looking dragon (not that Lei ever does boring but you know what I mean >.>)
2. Patterns are your friend! Go into detail over the pattern, and make sure you link an image of the fish for us to look at, to see how you interpreted it.
3. The egg you're designing for would be for a green or a blue dragon- bear that in mind when thinking about size.
4. I know lots of tropical fish are striped, but don't all do striped eggs. D: Please, please, pleaseeee. Thanks. <3
5. Super complex, vomitlicious patterns will probably be frowned upon. xD But it's up to Lei to help decide if she could make that into a dragon or not.

Fabulous prizes you say? Well, the best prize is that your egg will be used in the Hatching, Touching, and other Weyr related activities to do with the upcoming clutch. =D We haven't decided what your more tangible reward would be, but think somewhere along the lines of gold or maybe even a flitter.

The contest starts today, March 22nd, and will end on Tuesday, March 24. It should not honestly take this long, considering the description of the egg should only be a short paragraph. Look at eggs from the previous Hatching to see what the average/appropriate length should be. If there are any questions, feel free to post in thread.

This egg is littered with blotchy lines of a brick red of various tints. white lines almost veins weave in and out on a almost golden brown shell. In many locations the colors almost merge into one. The egg sits about half way between small and large being almost normal, the egg sits with an almost dangerous appeal.

This medium-sized eggs sits properly upright – it is not tilted and is not sitting low in the sands. Rightly so, for it is a flashy, beautiful egg… fancy even. Deep blue hues that swirl and shimmer across its surface are contrasted by bright, jagged bands of orange edged in a lighter orange-cream colour which circle the lower end of the egg. At the very top of the egg, around the point of it, a light blue fades into the darker blues of the main body. Striations of a darker blue run from pole to pole on the egg, giving it the appearance of a proudly flared fin.

Site that says it's a tropical fish =3

Picasso Triggerfish Egg - A medium sized egg that would blend in unnoticably with the others were it not for the dizzy, slap-dash pattern of it. A lightly tanned egg, skimmed with black down it's middle and sides, interupted by pale brush-like lines from the right side of the shell (Or the left, if one were to walk around to its opposite side). A rich brown crowning the top, the color looking to almost dribble down the eggs shell to a pale gold. It borders on a near ugly look, despite the undertones of vibrant blue along the stripes.

Smooth trunk fish egg

This egg is smallish but hardly tiny, leading bets on its occupant to be split fairly evenly between green and blue with a couple betting on a small brown. What marks it out most starkly from its siblings is its shape: on close inspection one can see that one of its sides is somewhat flat, and the small end is more sharply angled than is usual. The egg appears to have a yellowish-grey background, though in places it is more starkly black. Towards both ends of the egg the markings are white and spot-like, but towards the center they fade into a pale grey and gradually become well-defined hexagons.

Green Spotted Puffer Egg
At first glance this smallish egg looks almost misshapen. The middle of the egg seems bulged out, as if something has settled within the center and not the ends. Half pale cream colored, half a bright olive-y green, the egg is neatly divided in half. Large black splotches fleck the green side, making it look almost soft. Despite this the egg has rough texture and is riddled with small, almost sharp bumps. There is a quality of alertness and energy about it, you can almost envision the dragon inside wiggling at your approach. One might almost expect the contents to come busting out at the slightest touch.

Not puffed and of course, puffed!

Juvenile Painted Sweetlips

This egg is almost passable at first glance; compared to its siblings, there isn't anything extraordinarily striking about it. It rests deeply among the sands, only barely visible from its hiding place. It is also much tinier than most eggs, seemingly misplaced with its draconic siblings. Its shell alternates vertical black and white stripes, thick and bold across its surface. All in all, its simplicity is what sets it apart from its striking siblings.

Boesemani Rainbowfish Egg

Despite this egg's small size, it sits perkily atop the sand and catches the glances of many. Its base colour is an enchanting silver-blue tone that catches any available light. The upper half of the egg appears to be shaded with a dorsal stripe of shocking cyan. Where the cyan meets the lower half of the egg it is divided a pair of bold royal blue stripes. From the stripes to the base of the egg, the shading switches from cyan to brilliant tangerine. The entire egg has an aura of interest about it, as if whatever is inside of it already wants to be the center of attention.

Silver Scatter fish

Round and somehow content the medium sized egg sits squat amongst its brothers and sisters, its colours are unremarkable a very light brown or off cream with the faintest metallic shimmer. Its end however is capped by thick rings of black, slightly distorted and merging to form a solid coloured top but follow the smooth shell down and the bands are thin and clean cut evenly spaced down one half of the shell, but they only reach half way round before fading. The rest of the free space is speckled with dark brown spots. The colours are understated and almost camouflaged against the hatching sands but the pattern is no doubt unique.

Peppermint plecostomus egg (Isn't that a fantastic word? Ple-cos-to-mus! XD)

Nestled deep into a hollow in the sand, this egg might be overlooked if it were not for its colouring. It is predominantly black, upon closer inspection with slight ripple-like texturing, but far from dull: it is covered with a multitude of small, yellow-white spots. This striking pattern makes the smallish egg stand out enough in the hatching sands that it is in no danger of being stepped on - a fact that the occupant would no doubt be pleased about if it knew, and one that gives its mother a little peace of mind.

Parrotfish

At first glance, this egg is rather unassuming. Of medium size, with no immediate distinguising features, and a relatively plain, purple-beige color upon first glance. But when caught in the light, or just the right angle, this hardly proves to be the case. The egg almost seems to dance and light up with color at the edge of your vision, a mixture of bright blues and greens. Around the top, when inspected there almost seems to be a thin, vein like pattern of cyan. As if the egg were trying to hide its brilliance.
