What to do, what to do...Moto pondered the future as she prepared one of the slaves that could be made and stored easily without spoiling. Plants crushed between the flat rocks she had for such a purpose, then added to a honey and fat mixture in a stone container crafted to hold it. She didn't mind helping out...it kept her busy, and when she was busy she couldn't think about...about Him. The large lioness sighed and picked the container up carefully in her jaws and started for the tree that had the storage hollow in it.

She still missed him. His disappearance was still too fresh...too new. And it pained Moto. She hoped, with all her heart, he would return. As she placed the container in the tree hollow, she was reminded of something.

She was awaiting another pride member to return...one that few of the others knew about yet. She smiled. Perhaps, when her Wind returned, she would hear good news...

From a long way off Tumaini had already spotted the lioness she had been looking for. It'd been a while since she'd last seen the Mwezi, but it wouldn't do for her to forget the face of their strong leader. Mai caught sight of the queen's destination and swiftly made her way over, hiding behind the tree first to make sure there was no one else around. Her meetings with the queen were a secret as of yet, and it wouldn't do to be found so easily.

When she determined it was safe enough Mai made her presence known, emerging from behind the tree and immediately bowing her head.

"My queen," she started, but stopped abruptly and waited for Moto'nyota's acknowledgment.

Moto started a bit, then smiled politely, nodding her head in acknowledgment. "Baridi Tumaini....What news do you bring me?" There would be none around...Mai would not have emerged if anyone had been within the area. The other lioness was someone Moto had not realized would be needed for the pride until they met...

But essential Mai was, and Moto was infinitely glad to see her return intact.

Mai raised her head at the queen's words, a small smile tugging at the edges of her mouth. It'd been a while since she last heard her queen's voice, and it was comforting to finally hear it at last. "Both good and bad tidings, unfortunately," she started, moving a bit closer to Moto so she wouldn't have to speak as loudly.

"The good news - our allies grow in both number and strength as the moons pass. The bad news - the demons are growing at more of an alarming rate. One of our own informed me that their king's most recent litter was borne by a goddess. I've also spotted more of their kind at the borders, attempting to lure in any who pass through on the roguelands."

Mai's expression remained stoic as she delivered the news, though inside she was a bit worried by news of the latest litter. Once grown they'd make the pride that much stronger..

Moto held back a growl. So...they weren't growing fast enough. And...god-born cubs. That was alarming indeed. She frowned and shook her head. "So now the gods not only have done nothing about the demons...they consort with them!" She kept her voice from growing too loud...no need to draw attention. Not yet.

"It...it is good, that our own young are nearly grown. We shall be able to start fighting them soon. And then...then their numbers shall decrease." Moto snorted. "Thank you, Mai. Though it is bad news, it will help prepare us more." Her expression faded into a small smile. "Now...I have my own news. I believe it is time to introduce you to the pride." Mischief was in her eyes as she said that.

"Not your true purpose, of course...except those that we might train to answer to you. Those that could be our eyes and ears in other places. But...to the pride, you shall lead our more...diplomatic activities. Which is why you've been gone." She chuckled. "A good cover, yes?"

She eyed the other carefully, knowing it wasn't the news she really expected to hear. Still, as the Mwezi said, it would help their pride stay on alert. Mai's expression turned to that of surprise when Moto mentioned introducing her to the pride - officially. She almost protested, too, but Moto finished by answering what would have been her question. At that the lioness offered the other a smile and a small nod.

"Yes, it's a good cover," she answered, a bit excited to meet the other members. As of yet she'd only been watching the others from afar, but now it seemed she'd be given a bit more time to mingle with the others as well. "Though, as for training those who will work under me.." she started, almost hesitantly. "Might I make a request?"

The Mwezi nodded. "It will depend on that request, Mai." She knew it was unlikely Mai would make an unreasonable request...but lately, Moto had been living by caution. Their presence here was known now, and the demons were growing in size.

Lack of caution was an unafforadable luxury.

Mai hesitated again before giving the Mwezi her reply. "If it's alright with you...I'd like to have a say in who it is that I train." The femme shuffled her paws, hoping that it wouldn't be too much of a request. She wasn't used to making any, actually, since her job had never involved having anyone who needed training under her command. Thus it had yet to cross her mind.

The pause had been rather long, so Mai gave a nervous laugh and made a waving gesture with her paw. "But if it's too much to ask then that's fine too," she said quickly. "I trust you, above anyone else, when it comes to things of this matter, so.." and she trailed on for a bit, waiting for the Moto to interrupt her in one way or another.

Moto nodded. "That is a perfectly acceptable request." She smiled kindly. "I trust your judgment, Mai. You are a smart, reliable lioness...and without you, I'm afraid the pride just wouldn't survive." She chuckled. "So...I think I can trust you to choose your own trainees." Mai would choose well, she was certain of it.

The lioness smiled in return, bowing her head for a bit longer than a moment in thanks. It meant a lot to be able to choose who she trains. There were certain things that she knew she wanted in her trainees, so it was a matter of importance to her. "Thank you," she said once she lifted her head.

"I was also hoping it'd be alright for me to stay the night before heading out again. With all the demon lions wandering the roguelands at night, moving alone would be very risky.." She hated admitting it actually, but she'd be no match against more than two of them. Even one would be a handful. Plus there were the normal dangers of resting alone at night out in the open. Besides, it'd been a while since she stayed longer than a few hours with the pride. Usually she'd be in and out within the hour, returning every few days with news from beyond the pridal borders. This might also be a good chance to meet the others.

Of course, only if the Mwezi allowed her. If not, she'd be off as soon as she was dismissed.

Moto nodded, her smile broad. "No problem, Mai. I look forward to seeing who you train." And she did indeed. She rather wondered who among her pride was fit to the tasks she had set to her Baridi...

"Of course you can stay the night, Mai!" She chuckled. "No need to risk the Baridi's hide this night." The golden lioness nudged the other towards the dens. "Come now...let's get you settled for the night. Perhaps introduce my wonderful diplomat~"

Mai smiled gratefully at the Mwezi, bowing her head again in thanks. "Thank you. I'll choose carefully," she said, then lifted her head again and waited for Moto's reply to her next request.

Upon hearing it her smile only widened as she followed after the other. "Diplomat, of course," came her reply, chuckling a bit as she went. "I'm looking forward to meeting the others. Officially."

The Mwezi felt far more certain of the pride's future now. They would survive. They would strive forward. With those like Mai to help guide and protect the pride, Moto knew things would never grow too dark. Falter, perhaps...but that was mortal nature. They would just rise back up, like the Moon and Sun rose again every time they set.
