[Ooc: Any MALE WOLF in White Shadow that wants to contend for Stardust's affections aka rank of second Alpha can join this roleplay without asking.]
Mid-February, 109
Stardust was settled on the edge of the training fields in front of her barracks, which had recently become more vacant since Snowy retired and moved into one of the regular domiciles. Not that she was complaining because that male had taken up a lot of room in the den that she would've liked to have rolled around in. Contrary to popular belief, some wolves actually enjoyed having bedding and she was one of those, but Snowy had insisted that he could not sleep unless the floor was hard and cold. Now that he was gone, she had demanded that Riya move in large bales of dry hay and soft shavings - she was still working on the sheepskin rugs, but the new Captain was adamantly against it.
A yawn escaped the Alpha female as she opened her mouth, revealing sharp white fangs and a long tongue that rolled out briefly before retreating back in as the muzzle closed again. Stardust lay her head between her paws, glancing lazily at the crowd of wolves and humans training before her. With spring closing in on the Fort, the stress of the danger looming before them had everyone on edge and increasing their training. Even Riya had gone off somewhere with Shizuka to do something that didn't interest Stardust - she was content to rest after a hard run with the pack in the woods last night. She had officially asserted herself as the dominant Alpha and received little to not contestation anymore from the pack.
However, that brought the question of who she would choose as her mate. Stardust had flirted with most the males in the pack the last four years but did not see the point of taking any of them seriously. There were a select few that she favored but aside from that, none of them really caught her attention. But now that she was Alpha, many of the unattached males continuously vied for her attention in hopes of becoming the second Alpha, and she might've enjoyed the attention before... but now it was tiring. Looking left and right to beat down pursuers were starting to become such a chore that she decided listening to Riya and choosing her mate soon would be a good idea.
But which of these males would prove to be the strongest and most capable leader? Stardust certainly wasn't going to choose anyone - she wanted a male that could help her produce the best offspring. Speaking of which, here comes a potential mate...

The large red male with shocks of blazing white color on his feet, belly, chest and tail moved with long strides as he neared the resting Stardust, a characteristic light grin on his maw. Time had been kind to the now-adult - gone was his lanky awkwardness and in its place was a strong, large wolf who could move with grace and agility. Power rested in his muscles and in his eyes, a kind, intelligent confidence that made him easily approachable...but somewhat difficult to question. His deep voice was rarely laden with harsh words, but with age had come a sleeping aggression that awoke any time he sensed injustice or threats...
...of course, within the confines of his current rank.
And he was still playful.
And sexy.
Ember knelt before Stardust, paying his respect to the Alpha female in the traditional manner. The nearing of spring had awoken a different feeling within him, a need to impress and show himself off to the females..especially to Stardust. She had always been his favorite, to be honest. He was in contact with her quite often, though he was unsure of whether that was because of her personality or because he just ran into her a lot (not literally - that would be rude). Nevermind that. Ember also found himself more apt to aggression, quicker to react when it was appropriate for him to do so...but, thankfully, it was all within his current perimeters of acceptable conduct. Current acceptable conduct also meant that he was to stay knelt until allowed to rise, so there he stayed. Focus Ember, focus.
"You are looking lovely as ever, Stardust," he rumbled, a familiar amusement in his voice. It wasn't amusement directed at any particular thing...just an ever-present cheeriness that he couldn't even attempt to hide.

Paws reaching out, stretching out his muscles from the mornings training routine. Razzledrop couldn't help but enjoy the feeling, training always seemed to make him feel so, just so alive. Gave him energy, eagerness to complete each task for the day. However, rising from the ground he sniffed the air. It was still cold and snow still seemed to layer patches of the dead brown grass, licking the side of his upper jaw. Not only had he awoke early due to Kib's orders but he had managed to find a rather large buffalo. Reaching down to take the first bite from the succulent meat a scent carried by the wind interrupted him. Stardust? Confusion muddled his thoughts for a moment, as curiosity tumbled through his mind. Rising his tail from the ground he slowly walked in the alpha's direction. Stopping only far enough away that he wouldn't accidentally be considered rude.
Razzldrop was always nervous around Stardust, being as she was alpha he never could get over the feeling of giving her the proper respect she deserved. Blue eyes shifted to the side trailing over the male who had come to greet her, Ember. That young pup sure had grown since the leaves had fallen from the trees. His upper lip seemed to curl in an almost visible emotion of what had suddenly coursed through him. A sense of protectiveness. Shaking his fur and huffing, he had to pull more control over himself. Lowering himself to the ground and tucking his ears back he patiently waited. He would wait until one of two things happened, Stardust allowed him to approach or, she walked away. Either way, he sighed, he would be sharing his kill with no one at this rate.

Stardust lifted her head as she perked her ears towards the approaching male, the tip of her tail twitching as he lowered himself before her. But she made no move, simply parting her lips and rolling her tongue out in a wolfish smile. Of course I am, she responded with playful arrogance.
Ember had always been one of her favorites and she admired his playfulness. His arrogance would have bothered her and perhaps even clashed with her own narcissism, but he went about it in such an amusing manner that she was more entertained than anything. But that was the extent of her interest in him - Stardust enjoyed his company but had yet to see his potential as a strong mate.
Another lazy flick of her ears as Stardust turned to look at the second male, still not moving to rise from her comfortable position. Razzledrop was also one of the few wolves she tolerated only because of his strong devotion to the pack, even more so than the usual loyalty. He was only a year older than herself, but she still had not much contact with the emerald male and really had no idea of his potential as a mate.
Don't be so shy, she told Razz coyly, crossing her forepaws before resting her head lightly on them, and continued on in a teasing though goading tone. Come join us - Ember doesn't mind sharing me.

Ember chuckled as he rose, tossing his head as he turned to look at the male that approached. He did not reach a level of open hostility at the appearance...but did straighten himself and adjust his posture, holding his head higher as he sensed the snarl that almost seemed to peek out from beneath the other wolf's demeanor. He thought he caught the tail end of one...but he had turned his head too slowly to catch the full thing, if that was indeed what he saw. Ah, it mattered little. Giving the other wolf a quick visual once-over, Ember nodded a greeting. He would never openly disagree with her on a matter so trivial as whether or not he minded sharing her...but he did mind, darnit! Goodness, why did she have to be such a celebrity?
"Mmmmm. If the Lady insists, I suppose I can share for a little while." he rumbled, grinning lightheartedly. His chocolate-hued eyes trailed to the catch in the other male's mouth. Mmmm. He was hungry. "Nice catch you have there."

Razzledrop's right ear flicked at the mention of sharing, but said nothing further on the matter folding both ears back, submissively whimpering. Lowering his body to the cold ground Razz looked from Ember to Stardust, then back again contemplating his next move. Inching forward tucking his tail under he paused again as Ember rose, ears darting forward momentarily at the change of the male wolf. He could swear he almost sensed hostility towards him, possibly the same that was coursing though him. Pressing his ears back he continued forward to greet Stardust making sure he kept his body as close to the ground he could manage. Still unsure if he was giving Stardust the proper amount of respect she deserved. After all, she deserved so much more than what many in the pack gave her.
Looking back up at Ember, Razzledrop had managed to regain his calmer demeanor flicking his right ear once again before speaking. I appreciate your willingness to share this beauty. Following the males gaze he realized he had taken notice of his prey from earlier this morning. ... Ember if you have not eaten be my guest, I ment to share it with another anyway as it is far to big to eat alone. It would be a waist. His tone lighting up at the mention of sharing the meal.

Such pleasant weather for the last throws of winter. Nightshade had found himself in a nice warm patch of sun away from some remnants of slush and snow, until his rider so ungratefully ushered him out to do something other than laze about in this chance warmth. Flicking his tail behind him he pads along between barracks absently, glancing this way and that for anything to take up his time.
Just about to turn back and reclaim his napping spot, the scents of three wolves reaches him. Our alpha, and two others? And since curiosity killed the centipede (oh never the wolf), he heads towards the scent and hangs back a small distance when he spies Stardust and the two males. Interesting interesting. Now what business would they have with the female? Ah, spring was drawing nearer, perhaps that instinct was showing itself now? Usually he prided himself on subduing those odd feelings, thanks to Shun's not needing him to be so on edge or out of their usual pattern. The rider didn't express much like for change at times.
Approaching just close enough for his scent to be caught he hangs back again and sits. If he was welcome in the small little gathering, then he'd be told. And likewise if he was unwelcome, he could get back to that warm spot again if that were the case.

Stardust carefully watched as Razz approached them, ears lying lazily to the side in a manner which told the emerald male that such submission was not necessary at this time. She was far more interested to see these males confront each other, but if they were too busy worrying about her reaction to them, they clearly were not going to grow any confidence. Not that she had really expected it out of either of them as both Ember and Razz were the non-confrontational types.
However, the scent of a new male reached her nose and Stardust decided that he may just be the perfect instigator. Stardust normally wasn't one to encourage fights, nor did she intervene when they did break out, but she was feeling rather restless and had been recently. Standing up abruptly, she purposely ignored the two males before her and trotted between them, tail flickering flirtatiously in both their directions.
But she looked straight ahead at Nightshade, approaching him casually with her ears perked up in his direction and tail wagging playfully. When Stardust reached the male, she rubbed her head into his shoulder affectionately, a small rumble erupting from her throat as she did so.
Sitting here by yourself, trying to look all silent and strong? the Alpha inquired coyly, walking behind Nightshade's back but close enough so that her tail curled around him as she did. Then she stepped back and sat down a foot away from him, ears flickering towards Ember and Razz as she awaited a reaction from any of the three males.

"Oh! So very kind of you, but no thanks. I need to hunt again before I lose my edge." he responded, nodding. "Perhaps the Lady would like to join...me...?"
Ember had just mentally acknowledged the presence of the next new male when Stardust rose, immediately gaining his full attention and effectively ending whatever statement he was previously making. He grinned even more when she moved past them, flicking her tail in her usual flirtatious way...until he realized that she wasn't turning around. She ignored them. Whaaaat?! A curious change could be seen in his eyes as he watched the Alpha female move to approach Nightshade, a male he had seen before. Never spoken to, only seen...which is why he was so very confused. Why would she walk right past him, only to personally greet this other male? Oh jealousy, you were so cruel-aha! That was it! She was trying to make him jealous! Or them, in which case-
And then, she rubbed her head on the other male.
Ember felt a brand new surge of anger rise in him, so quickly and strongly that he was caught totally unprepared. It was sudden and strange, the immediate flick of a switch that he didn't even know existed. The calm, happy Ember had disappeared and in his place stood a wolf who, in the back of his mind, was wondering what in the world had just overtaken him and was currently changing his entire persona.
Ember whirled around, his entire posture immediately shifting to where he could spring at any moment. Ears laid flat back against his head, the male snarled vehemently as he felt the fur on the back of neck raise, his body lowering into a near-crouch as he stared with fire in his eyes at the new male. Oh no, none of this was directed at Stardust - strictly at the male who she was flirting with. Somehow, though, in this state, his mind didn't really realize that she was the instigator for all this. All he knew was that this male was standing in between he and Stardust, and currently, that was a baaaad place to be.
"I suggest you adjust your position, friend," he growled in his low voice, tone dripping with a seriousness that was HARDLY characteristic of him.
((Crappy post is crappy XD Malik, if you want to have yours egg Ember on, go ahead. If not...well, we can discuss it through PM or something, if you want))

Upon seeing Stardust stand and begin walking in his direction, Nightshade lowers his head to show her his respect. What he had not anticipated, or even predicted in that always-thinking mode he usually fell into when left to himself, was her.. starkly out of character, from his past experience, greeting. This was.. the most unexpected path just short of getting mauled from behind by an invisible enemy, really.
I, of course not, Alpha Stardust. I was merely remaining back as to not intrude on your gathering over there. A glance downward at her tail before it is removed from his 'personal space' and his attention returns to her as she sits. Odd, definitely. But intriguing. Would there be a particular reason for your.. welcoming greeting?
Remaining seated himself, red-orange eyes glance beyond her towards the other two males as his mind starts instructing caution. Ah, a good reason for it too it would seem. His ears raise up and focus in on the dark red male, though he doesn't change his body position just yet other than a faint tensing of his forelegs. Fiend? I'm afraid you have me confused with another wolf. And what, do tell, position am I supposed to be changing? Any other time he would calmly back down, but since this anger was sudden, and without any real cause he could see, he ignored his usual pattern to stand.. or sit his ground.

Razzledrop shifted his current position as he watched Stardust bound off towards Nightshade. Pulling both front paws towards him raising his shoulders in a sitting position he eventually relaxed his tail wrapping it around himself. Ears still pulled tightly against the back of his head, bright blue eyes watching as she drew closer to the new wolf. Letting the jealousy course invisibly through him beneath his skin he calmly continued to watch. It wasn't until she had pressed her head into his shoulder that his fur bristled along his neck and backside. Shaking his head to calm himself he was instantly distracted by Ember.
Blue eyes shifting back to the younger wolf, blinking as he studied his new stance he rose carefully onto all four paws. Walking towards Nightshade with controlled movements making sure to continue showing respect towards Stardust. Flicking his ear as he moved by Nightwing he half debated sitting down and moving between the two, however the repercussions of that would be... well. Not to bright considering the upcoming battle between the two forts, Kib would have his head. Not that he really cared much about what his rider thought, after all he wasn't his dog or anything.
Pretending to have completely missed Nightshade, Razz continued on only to sit in front of Stardust pressing his ears back as he spoke. Stardust, if you haven't yet eaten I have killed a buffalo not to long ago...

Stardust had the vague feeling that Nightshade was not interested in nor attracted to her, which humbled her slightly to the fact that she was not necessarily as appealing as she had hoped. As much as she would've liked all the males to chase after her, she knew it was an impossibility and simply made do with the ones that did - though at the moment, the prospects were still good.
Can I not greet a fellow wolf with affection? she responded with a soft and playful growl at Nightshade, before turning her attention to the viciousness that had risen from Ember. Now that was what she wanted to see, males fight for her. After all, Stardust would only choose the smartest and strongest mate, and in wolf society, that was determined by a physical battle.
Perking her ears up at Razz's approach and then his offer, Stardust glanced lazily at the buffalo that he had dragged into the fort. But this hunger of hers could not and would not be satiated by the blood of prey - only by the blood of dominance. Nevertheless, Stardust stood and stepped towards Razz, leaning forward to nuzzle him softly nose to nose for a few moments. A kind offer, she purred before pulling back abruptly, perhaps later.

Ember's snarl calmed only slightly when Stardust spoke - he was blind to the words spoken by the threatening male. A small semblance of rationality - or, some would argue, sanity - returned for a moment, and calmly informed him as to why he was acting this way. The reason that made the most sense was simply because he had never seen her touch or flirt with another male in the way she was doing so now. If he had seen it, it had been in puppy-hood, when he really didn't care. Of course he really still didn't care when it came to other females, but her....well, again, she had always been his favorite. Oh, clearly, he cared when it came to her. That much was evident now, plain as day.
He was still tensed, still snarling with bared teeth as Razz began to approach. This one did not seem to be as much of a threat (in reality, neither of them were threatening ANYONE...but crazyEmber didn't know that) as the other, but the offer of food caught his attention slightly. He felt that strange anger ebbing away, calming as his teeth began to hide themselves behind his lips again. However, when she moved to nuzzle the other male, he decided that perhaps the only way to end this was to begin something else, something to release it all.
The decision made, the male lunged forward - slightly to the side so as to avoid hitting Stardust in his attack. He was not making a move to kill, just a move to maim. Killing another male over such a slight error would be too rash, and possibly a detriment to the pack, so he would not intend for a lethal blow until it was called for. He aimed for the front leg of the other wolf, preparing mid-leap for the possibility of the other male anticipating the lunge and dodging. If he did, well, Ember should have a chance to regroup and try again and not fall flat on his face.

Shocked by Stardusts rather flirtatious movement towards him he was surprised he didn't falter in his steps. Ears spinning back towards Ember quickly turning his head as the snarling fell and rose once again, obviously he was planning an attack. Spinning on foot Razzledrop readied his stance just in time lunging forward to meet Ember half way, Stardust had just shown what he thought to be a slight bit of interest. And if that was true he was going to defend that position and hopefully claim it, even if it meant getting injured. Fur rising to stand on end as he let forth a menacing growl at Ember, followed by a territorial bark Razzle snapped his jaw close enough to Embers ear but just missing it on purpose. Raising on his back legs to gain leverage over Ember another sharp growl mixed with a snarl erupted from him.
Breaking for only a split second away from the wolf before him, Razzle jumped to the side and lunged again. He was in no way going to let up on this fight, this was a fight for dominance and he wasn't about to let a wolf this young win over him. He had much more experience with battle, he had far more intensive training. However that also made his movements slower.

For a moment, the response was a sensible one to his mind. Though with the approach of Razz and being ignored by the green male, his caution peaks again. His attention lies on Razz, and his own small greeting from Stardust for a moment. Flicking his ears back just a little he allows himself to tense just slightly.
With good reason too it would seem. Nightshade nearly stands and backs away a step at Ember's lunge, watching the attack closely. This isn't the usual situation, not by a long shot. A quick side glance towards their alpha and he doesn't see any notion that she is going to stop a fight, just yet.
About that moment his attention turns to Razz again as the wolf lunges to meet Ember's attack. Alpha, are you truly going to condone this sort of thing in your presence?
