The day had been, in short, horrible. Zerk had woken early for his lessons. Too early to enjoy breakfast with his family in fact. His tutor wanted him to watch the lighting of Narbondel. There was supposed to be a lesson involved but the sleepy eyed youth had cared more for the fact he was missing his soft bed then for the eye searing flames that wreathed the base of the giant stone structure. After which he had been escorted back to the House and since he was awake...lessons began.

Zerk felt like he had not absorbed even a quarter of the information that had been taught to him, and most of it had been review. He was tired and cranky. He convinced his tutor to allow him to take a nap close to mid morning. Perhaps falling asleep and spilling the ink pot all over the parchment had helped? He was gratified that he was not scolded though, and he had crashed into a deep slumber the moment he laid down on the tutors sedan. The scent of food awoke him. He had slept through lunch unfortunatly and his nanny had imposed himself on his tutor. Zerk awoke in his own room with a small side table laid out with some sweetened glazed mushrooms and soft white bread. He ate of course, and sulked at not being awake for lunch at least. Most of the day was past by now.

Following his late lunch came one of the lessons he enjoyed most. Combat training! Lessons and sparring with the Weapon's Master is something he found thrilling. The afternoon flew by and Zerk was mostly content for it. It was over all too soon unfortunatly. With a hour left before dinner Zerk was shuffled off to bathe and re-dress. Sometimes bath time was enjoyable though, and today was that sort. His psionic teacher joined him in his bathing chambers, chooseing now to help him practice focusing his mental abilities. In the calmness and relaxing atmosphere of the bath Zerk and his teacher had learned that he made more progress. Zerk enjoyed his psionic lessons. Not because his teacher was a psionic. Oh no. his teacher was nothing of the sort. His teacher was a male that followed a monk like practice, and he had shown the most progress in aiding Zerk come in touch with the hidden powers of his mind. So they sat and did visualization practice in most sessions. Sometimes they played Sava. Other times it was some weird sort of physical exersize that had him moving slowly and holding poses for counts of time. Today was a visualization practice. They were imagining the image of a spider, his teacher's low voice talked him through the imagery. He talked about the hard chitine shell's plates and the individual hairs upon it's legs. After the spider's image was complete his teacher talked him through making the spider move. Imagining how each of those eight legs would move and flex and how they would cling to the wall as it walked along.

It was a fun practice. It was also a long practice. By the time they finished three hours had passed. The magically heated bath had rendered his little body wrinkled and his stomach made it's unhappiness known by gurgling loudly when he crawled out to be towled down by a servant. It wasn't entirely unheard of for Zerk to miss a few meals with his family a week. But very rarely did he go a entier day without seeing any of his family members. There was a good reason for this of course.

By the time bedtime rolled around the well behaved prince was transformed into a unholy terror. Cranky with seemingly no reason, he refused for the most part to co-operate with his nanny. He did not want to recite any lessons. He did not want to review his training. He did not want to change into his night cloths or go to bed. He did not want his hair brushed. Zerk didn't quite have a reason for any of his refusals. Most often his excuse was a simple 'Because I said so' and he would carry on until his nanny either forcefully pinned him down in bed or some family memeber inervened. On this particular day no intervention would be forthwithcoming. La'Zarius was working late at the tower. The Matron had a pretty young male trapped in her private chambers, and Jeryna has already turned in for the night.

The nanny attempted to use force to put Zerk to bed. He recieved for his troubles a bitten arm and a kicked knee joint. Not for the first time the pair tussled upon the bed until Zerk managed to squirm free of his nannys grip. Like a shot from a crossbow he was across the room and out the door of his room. A merry chase ensued, the nanny yelling for Zerk to return to his bed, and Zerk belting out a few choice words he had heard from the guards in the training room. Zerk was chased about the level where the family rooms were located, then down to the ground floor. His nanny was given quite a fright when Zerk ran himself right out through a servants enterance in the kitchen and outside. Once out though, Zerk cut a quick path round the buidling to the guards entrance. He was back inside in just minutes and up the stairs to the family floor again. By the time his nanny had discovered he had not hidden in the courtyard Zerk was safely tucked in his brother La'Zarius' room.

Of course his nanny knew he would not leave the House grounds, no matter how badly he was acting out. So there was no need to alarm the Household when the nanny eventually backtracked the boy to the eldest sons rooms. Though...there was absolutly no way the nanny or the guards would chase Zerk into those chambers. Not in the least!

Alone, winded, and satisfied by he escape, Zerk wasted no time exploring his brothers closet and dressers. He was vaugely familar with the contents, but what he sought was something very specific. A work robe... Zerk shucked his own cloths to the floor and donned the white garmet. It swam on him. The body pooling about his feet on the floor and the sleeves completely swallowing his arms up. Still, he smiled brightly and shuffled his way to a bookshelf. There Zerk reached up and touched the spines of the books, feeling out their titles in the lightless room. He searched them until he found a book that seemed interesting enough. The Lore of Menzoberazzan! The history of their great city. There had to be some great stories about raids and battles within it! Zerk tugged the book from it's place, and carefully crossed to his brothers bed. He set the book down on the top cover then crawled up himself to the middle. Now all he needed to do was wait for La'Zarius to return him.

Zerk assumed he would be home before a candlemark passed. Yet before even that amount of time had passed his eyelids were already too heavy to keep open. He struggled though, the lids drooping only to be forced back open, often times a little lopsidedly. before too long though, Zerk's childs frame had sprawled itself in the center of the bed, one hand curled over the book and the other fisted above his head as he lightly snored.

User Image:: Currently he was attending his last appointment of the day.. his very long day spent within the walls of the Tower of Sorcere. La'Zarius frowned and looked upon the student that sat nervously in the seat before his desk.. The small silver dagger that he used to work his blood magics twirling between his fingers like a tiny lethal baton. "Well?" his voice, sultry and smooth and quite impatient by this point.... quite certain that Narbondel would find itself relit by the time he'd finally make it home... Finally the student started in with his speech, of how he would be an impressive asset to the upper classes of Necromancy and as such he desired to be moved up the ladder where he belonged. Now, had the Master of Necromancy been female, surely he would not have been so bold... But foolish as it was, he'd erred gravely in speaking thus to La'Zarius... thinking perhaps that a show of bravado would make a positive impression on the dark elf. But no, most assuredly not today.... The youth did not stand a chance... one moment the mage was sitting there, regarding him with cold fury filled eyes... the next he felt the softest touch on his cheek, like silk on his skin, it was La'Zarius' hand, and that cold bit, that was the dagger, sliding through the thin bone of his temple like it was nothing more then butter... His eyes widened... La'Zarius' holding up his head as he'd jerk the blade free, listening to the sound of the bone, grating on silver as it slid out, painted in the fluids that it drank up hungrily. "Denied." He'd speak in that same, smooth voice, sounding almost bored as he'd allow the body to slump forward in the chair, dark things of dark dreams crept forward out of the shadows and began to reach for the newly dead body, "No... he is not for you..." his soft voice like a whip crack against their fetid skin... making them shrink away from the creature that created them. "Take him to the ritual chamber..." His vibrantly colored eyes shifting to another form in the room, this one, wispy and translucent, giving the room a chilly feel. "Tell the Matron of his lowly house that she has been relieved of a son..." lightly running the length of the silver blade over his blood soaked hands, watching with mild interest as tiny dagger drew it all in.... "there shall be no need for gratitude, it was a pleasure all my own and I shall be certain to give the male a proper place within the Tower." with a wave of his slender hand, the banshee drifted off through the ebony wall of his office... La'Zarius then watched his ghouls shamble off, dragging the body of the 'child' behind them... "Well then, finally..." he'd give a sigh and turn to a bureau within his mage quarters and withdrew a long black cloak, wrapping it around his slender shoulders and then pulling up the cowl to conceal his features. He thought to himself that he must look a fright, with the long hours and imbeciles that he had to deal with daily as of late. It had taken time away from his personal endeavors, and away from his family.

Not that he expected any of them to be awake at this hour.. Mehzra most likely sleeping off a vivacious romp in her chambers with some servant that would most likely become a project of his in the near future with how.... Eager his younger sister and Matron could be... Jharna, an even younger sister had probably fallen to sleep hours ago... Though her exhaustion would most likely be the cause of countless hours of attempting to perfect her techniques in enchanting objects.... And then, there was little Zerkxiez... No doubt the youngest Xexsis had, had a very busy day... His Tutor had come to him the previous evening with the request to take the young prince off to Narbondel to see it's lighting. Oh, what a thrilling day it must have been for little Zerk. He was of the age where everything bored him and every adult that wasn't his 'Mother' or his 'Father' had little to no importance to him. He wanted to play, not to study... The only area the lad seemed not to have a problem in keeping his attention was with his Psionic trainer. Zerk knew how pleased La'Zarius was with his gift and told him of his advancements nearly before they even happened. For the most part he was a good little drow prince, he knew his place, he behaved as if not to be seen if there were others, not of the family, about... But, when it was just them... he was quite eager for attention, yearned for affection and strove to get all that he could from both of his surrogate parents... actually siblings, but by the will of Lloth, their inferior Mother had perished after the birth of her so called Eighth child... she had bled out, truly a pity but obviously Lloth wanted her, instead of the wide teal eyed babe that clutched his slender finger way back when with a tiny hand that was just as perfectly dark as his own... it was likened to staring into the deepest of pits, with two jewels glowing forth with the only light to look upon him. And of course, once he had seen those eyes, he knew, there was something -special- about him... La'Zarius had taken it upon himself under the guidance, or so he firmly believes, to pick and choose which members of the Xexsis household lived or died. Thus far, he had suffered no reprimand from the dark Goddess and hence he believed fully that by killing the paler skinned siblings off one by one, he was doing his duty to her as well as by striving to reach the apex of his own personal power as a necromancer... all in Her service. Now, his mother, she had been imperfect... her skin ashen, disgustingly pale in compare to obsidian... her hair, ah the shame of it, had been tainted with the faintest hints of blonde... As La'Zarius had grown he had begun to introduce males into the house that he was certain his mother would find pleasing... for until then, he had been the only Xexsis born with perfect black skin and stark white hair. Soon enough though, through his manipulations, younger siblings would be produced of the quality that he demanded... and those that did not fit within his highest of standards... soon left for the demon web pits.... until it was the Dark Queen had Ascended then of course they would slave away in her service there. It was his mother's fault... diluted blood that could only find perfection in the coupling of a male of the darkest complexion and stark white hair.. Or, in the case of Zerk's father.... Perfectly and completely ebony... The drow that had fathered Zerk had been the most remarkable of male's... He did remember him... and had approved of the choice his mother had made in having a child through dark blessing with him.... What he did NOT approve of was that she'd left him there... that drow could have fathered even more of her children, and yet, she merely laughed, toyed with him with promises of freedom for he was a Matron's son in chains in a far off city... and then, left him there... But that had been put from his mind... what could he do? Nothing, he'd been younger at the time and did not hold the position he now does. Of course, he was probably dead... long dead and now, he was 'father' to Zerk and watching day after day as the boy became more and more powerful with abilities that had not been within the Xexsis line for a few good centuries from the pages of his families history.

So it was with fondness that he looked upon Zerk... a smile was not withheld from the boy.... They're house, would be the strongest house in Menzoberrazan by the dark Goddess! And he would see to it... as he'd been instructing his younger siblings for years... This world is Chaos, and as splendid as that may be, as acceptable... there was one thing that La'Zarius insisted upon and thus far it had taken firm ... their web, their tribute to the Spider Queen was to build a web out of each member of their family... with a strength of will and their own special abilities they had turned into a house to be reckoned with... Strength may indeed come in numbers... but like a good game of Sava... Wits was in the end, what won the game. It had reminded him... of a time when he was but a child... happening upon a very large and lovely spider's web in the courtyard... It seemed as if it would have taken ages to construct... and to his horror, a very large beetle fell into the web... it's bulk thrashing within the sticky strands, the loud buzz of it's wings infuriating as it tore apart the lovely web... La'Zarius had been quick to rescue the spider... and move it to another location now that it's home was destroyed... Even then, in his young mind... the plans... began to form... the Perfect house... The Perfect Matron and her Perfect Family. They would build their web of adamantium... Each unwavering in their loyalty to House Xexsis and to the pits with the rest of the Underdark! Let them rip themselves apart from the inside out... let those foolish houses fall to ashes under their own hands... It was the way that it had been... But La'Zarius had bigger plans, plans that he shared with only his family.... the strength that each held to take them to the first house and hold that seat for all time.... For that is what he believed was the Spider Queen's desire... why else would she frown so on the betrayal of her children.... and reward the faithful protector that has ever remained at her side?

Ah, it was too late to be thinking of such things... his eyes felt heavy and his feet were in need of a good mineral soaking... It was as he was seeking out a servant that he happened upon.... "Caretaker of my brother, why do you fuss so out side of my private rooms?" as if... he did not know already by the sight of the servant that he'd find a certain young drow inside... Probably ready to demand attention from him for all the neglect he has suffered through with La'Zarius working hours that no slave he had ever seen worked. Such was the price of power and position in the city of Menzoberrazan. ::

Awaiting La'Zarius outside his room was a single lone drow. The Nanny had seen no reason to keep in his attendance the servants that had joined him in the hectic chase of young Zerkxiez. Still, he would have felt a bit more secure in the presence of others around him. When La'Zarius entered the hall where his room was and approched, the slightly older males head snapped upwards at quick attention despite the late hour.
Svir had the longest record of service in caring for Zerk. He found little comfort in his period of service though. Simply the knowledge that he was merely one in a long line of nannies and governess' was enough to keep him from becoming too complacent in his position. Or was that too careless? No, if that were the case he would not be standing here waiting for La'Zarius to come and speak with him. Svir folded his hands behind his back, and bowed his head respectfully to the Elder boy of the house. A faint shine of nervouse sweat dampened his coal skin along it's white hairline.

"Forgive me Lord La'Zarius." He began while bowing. Lifting his gaze a bit he did his best not to allow his wits to completely leave him as he spoke. "My charge was being difficult this evening when it was bed time. I'm afraid his lessons with the Weapons Master is proving very effective, at least when it concerns close unarmed combat." Thus speaking, he reached a hand up to rub at the bitten part of his arm before he continued on. "Zerkxeiz has hidden himself away inside your personal chambers Lord. And...well..." His red eyes flickered towards the door. "I did not believe further pursuit of the wayward boy would have been...wise."

:: All the servant got to see was that deep dark shadowed place inside the cowl where La'Zarius' face was hidden. He could not tell the reaction of his words for the hidden signs that would have perhaps shown on his face. But no, he merely got to stand there in fear as that hooded figure seemed to loom even if it were more slight then him. La'Zarius being a shade taller then the other drow helping to facilitate this effect. The only action performed that he could tell was a heavy sigh... that at least was something that would give him clue of La'Zarius' exasperation... He'd just gotten home, from a very long day.... The last thing he wished to deal with was a servant that could not perform his job... But he would have to admit to himself that of all the caregivers of his little brother, this one had proven to be the most resourceful in keeping the youngest Xexsis from getting himself killed... Or killing any one else, that was of at least some importance in the household. His trips to the slavers auctions for more workers had certainly taken a definite decrease in frequency.... He knew this drow knew how to tend to his brother... and if Zerk had gotten away... well, there would have been good reason... The child was special... and he did note the bite mark... The nanny could see the slight shake of La'Zarius' head... "So, this is not a complete show of incompetence then? Good... I would hate to have to bloody myself yet again this night... well, perhaps only a little..." he wouldn't see the tiny smirk that crawled up the corners of La'Zarius' lips... "Tell me then, all that has happened... Obviously Zerkxeiz's needs to have boundaries set by a higher order..."

He didn't bother to pull back his cowl, he'd take a step towards the other, increasing that looming feeling. Well at least he didn't have a contingent of his undead things following him about... that would have made it even more uncomfortable for the servant... "Forgiveness is not forthcoming by the way... Do I need to remind you that is it never forgiveness that you receive with failure within House Xexsis... the most any of you can hope for is another day of life, no reduction in your pay or permanent disfigurement for anything I happen to find unacceptable enough to warrant such punishment... " he could see the dappled glint of sweat upon the others brow... "But relax... you have not displeased me that severely.... merely a trifle.... My brother is a resourceful little git, and if it is you cannot ... and you still cannot... deliver physical harm upon him, I do fully realize that the same does not... or shall I say, had not applied to him.. I will be discussing the new..... behavioral limitations I will set for him after it is I know fully what he has done this night...and if you have an idea of -why-... that of course would be helpful as well..." ::

It was purely by effort of will alone that the slightly shorter male did not retreat a step when La'Zarius closed the distance between them. Svir did, however, lean backwards a bit. His red eyes still reflecting his unease. Nothing that was said to him eased it in the least. Just because La'Zarius had said this was a mere trifel did not mean he could not decide to punish him reguardless.

"Yes Lord." He replied, and thanked the Goddess there was no weak waver in his voice. "I understand why the boy misbehaved. His schedual today was too full and he did not have any interaction with any of his family members. As this has happened on a few occassions before I was not surprised when the boy became difficult at the end of the day. I had prepared to deal with him as effectively as I could, but as I said.." His voice trailed off and Svir shifted his stance from one foot to another.

"The boy was a bit more viscious when it came time for bed and I was unaware of the new move he had learned from the Weapons master. I...I am not a warrior Lord." Not that he could expect his excuse to carry much weight if La'Zarius was in too foul a temper. Svir felt his stomach twisting inside as he forced himself to continue.

"Zerkxiez fled the room and the two servents I had posted outside the door failed to grab him. So we had to chase him through the halls a bit. I had not anticipated the young Lord to leave through the servants enterance in the kitchen, so when I entered I stopped to check his usual hiding places. It was one of the scullery maids that pointed out the boy had not hidden but instead had left out the back door. I discovered from sentry's outside that he had run through the courtyard and re-entered the House through the guards enterance. I knew where he was heading and made haste here...but...well..." Svir lifted a hand and gestured to the door.

"He had alreadygotten inside. I was able to hear movement and a giggle so I was positive he was inside. Though i still sent the servants to scour the House while I stayed in wait here...just in case you had a new...ahm...object...I was unaware of..."

:: The movement was swift, fluid... his hand snapping up to take the other by the throat, his fingers curling up near to his pointed ears as he'd thrust him forcefully against the wall.... La'Zarius was not a drow of great strength, but there were magics that could make if so quite easily... "He got -outside-?" his voice held an icy chill that seemed to run down his arm and through his fingertips that held him by the neck... "This, is unacceptable..." there was a moment where the nanny may believe the Eldest would simply snap his neck and be done with it... but no.... his hand, drifted down finally as he managed to withhold his anger... but he was scowling, not that the other could see it... but he most likely could feel it... "have the weapons master dispose of the two servants that had been left outside the door.... If they cannot keep their hands on a young male then they are not fit to be employed... or enslaved... which ever..." a wave of his hand... "by House Xexsis..." La'Zarius then reached for his door, and opened it, to reveal that yes, there was Zerk, upon his bed... apparently sleeping... "take yourself to your rooms now.... know that Zerk shall be having another bad day tomorrow, his punishment shall be doubled ciphers and reviews of his weakest subjects during his playtime... and during his time with the weapon master as well as his special tutor.. Inform them both that their services shall not be required on the morrow... Also, have the weapons master chose two of his soldiers, those that are excelled in close combat and restraint.. and that know physical harm dealt upon my brother shall result in immediate loss of their obviously empty heads... Ah yes, and the scullery maid, and the sentry for their observation and quickness of informing you of Zerk's antics... " La'Zarius drifted a moment, he was not one that usually dealt out rewards... "tell them that they have a free day.. if it is they are not afraid to assist in keeping track of my little brother, I should encourage the behavior..." giving a soft sigh he'd wave off the nanny... "I will attend to my brother... you go... now... " ::

Svir's eyes were blinded for a moment by white spots as he found himself swiftly pinned to the wall behind him. The grip on his throat was frightening, but the voice speaking to him was terrifying. He lifted his hands up, and dug his fingers into the wall rather then leaving them limp and risking offending La'Zarius by grasping at his wrist. Svir's lips parted in a tremble. He did NOT want to die! Not because of some high born brat!

By some favor of the Goddess though, La'Zarius released his grip. With a gasp, Svir bowed his head. His legs felt terribly weak at this point. It was a embaressment and a shame. The thoughts that had run through his head just moments ago.

"Yes Lord." He replied weakly. He was not looking forwards to delivering all the foul news. Particularly to the teachers. Ending the lieves of the servants was hardly consequential. As it was their fault this entier mess occured. His head continued to bow, though it paused while La'Zarius needed to think of a reward for the sentry and scullery maid who had performed quick wittedly and usefully.

"Lord." He repeated again. His head lifted now so he could watch as La'Zarius entered his personal chambers. Well..there seemed to be a glimpse of the boy on the bed, so..with the dismissal given, Svir had no problem getting his shakey leg's to stiffen so he could run his way down the hall.

:: For a moment he watched the servant flit off down the hall, fright had been apparent within the eyes of his little brother's nursemaid, La'Zarius then tilted his gaze to the small dark lump covered in his luminescent white work robes in the center of his bed. His steps were whisper soft as he'd approach the child, shutting and locking the door quietly with a single wave of his delicate hand... he seemed to drift across the floor, his hot pink eyes gazing down at Zerk's sleeping form... Innocence... he had heard of such things but it was a rare sight to seen within this darkened land which they lived... especially on the face of the very creatures that he called brethren and his darkly superior sisters... But, La'Zarius was not surprised to see it upon the child's face as he slept, it was indeed nearly the only way for any drow to appear so.... untouched by the wickedness that one day they would fully embrace... But for now, it was something to see... to revel in... Oh, the harm he could do to the boy! The scars would never heal... But, this was not what La'Zarius wanted... not from his brother... Or from his sisters that he'd found worthy of serving the dark Queen for their perfection in what he believed to be of the Goddess' design...

Turning away from his brother, he'd start to strip off his clothing, folding them neatly in his hands and placing them for his personal servant to tend to in the morning. His wardrobe, the same that the boy had been rifling through to find the robe he was currently sleeping in, was opened again, this time, a floor length nightgown of the softest processed spiders silk was drawn forth... and this he took with him into his private baths.. Walking with no shame, if anything a bit of arrogance for he knew that he was beautiful and there was naught about him to turn a nose in a foul manner... Not that there was anyone to see his slender form in the buff... but still the Drow seemed to carry on as if he had an audience... Perhaps he did in a manner, who knew when the Goddess would check in on her faithful and fearful devout. Laying the gown across a deep red marble counter top he'd turn to the bath that was always filled with fresh, clean steaming water... a plethora of oils and soaps within reach. It could have been the bath of a woman, save the scents that wafted from the water were undoubtedly male... It was here, that he would pamper himself after a long day of working...

Nearly a full hour later, his hair dried and hanging about his dark features, so pale in compare, he'd reenter his bed chamber... approaching the sleeping lad again.. This time, the slight weight of his body would make the soft bed dip as he'd sit down upon the edge, his body now clothed and proper for dealing with his little brother... It was obvious that he was not going to be leaving this room tonight... As long as a habit was not made of this, La'Zarius did not dissuade him.. he wanted his brother to love him, need him and most of all respect and be loyal to him and House Xexsis... for it was the workings of this web of steel that he had envisioned their home to be.... or should be.. no, would be when their family had grown beyond those which it held now... Though he would rather have four siblings whom were powerful and adept as well as loyal to the house and each other if no one else, then two dozen of the usual backstabbing siblings that rose through the ranks with their cunning and in La'Zarius' opinion, stupidity... Merely weakening the family in the stead of making it stronger... Let them... House Xexsis was not the second of Menzoberrazan for naught...

His delicate hand reached over to the boy, lifting those dark locks away from his face and lying his equally dark hand against the boy's cheek... there was a book he clutched to his chest... one upon the city's history... a bedtime story? A trace of a smile formed upon his lips as he'd waken the boy by stroking gently at his baby soft cheek... Ah... those eyes, such a sight to be peering out of the darkness of the boy's face... it never ceased to please him, the vision of his Goddess blessed brother and the knowledge that those fiery teal eyes held the promise of great power that would be used all for the security of house Xexsis and every member of it's very... different family. ::

Such peaceful dreamings, that of the young. Blameless and guiltless, though not entierly without fear at times. Zerk slept such peace tonight. Unworried about the fates of servants or even himself. He was in the safest place to be. Aside from his own mothers bed chambers of course. Zerk did not stirr from his slumber all through the time it took La'Zarius to cleanse himself. He had, after all, had a very busy day with his lessons, and his final run through the House to escape sleeping in his own room for the night.

The bed dipped under the slight weight of the additional body, and Zerk did shift a bit. Though nothing more. Not right away. Those slender and graceful fingers brushed at the unruly hair of youth and brushed it away from the black as darkness skin. Only after the fourth gentle gliding of the fingertips did Zerk's eyes crack open. The sharp contrasting cyan peeked out between those lids. The way a flames light might pierce through a crack in a wall. With a shift of his head, Zerk uncurled his fisted hands and rolled the sleepy eye towards the looming figure near to him.

"Father." He mumbled softly, his lips hald pressed to the bed still caused his words to have a muffled sound. "Read me a story?"

:: His smile deepened at the soft worded request from his 'son', turning into a low chuckle, and why shouldn't he call him father, he was the only one that he'd ever known! La'Zarius did not discourage the boy in this, though Zerk did know that he and Mehzra were not truly his parents, but his siblings. Though, they had raised him as if he were their own so that was enough for it to be accepted... as well, La'Zarius doubted that he would have a child of his own any time soon if at all.. All the females that he knew, were of the sort to make his nether regions shrivel to the point that he would be mistaken for a female himself... "ah now, if I read to you now, you will not remember a word of it... Narbondel nears the end of it's cycle Zerk... it is very late, and father is tired from a long day... So, tonight we shall sleep... but..." he regarded the child for a moment, before giving a shake of his head, "No... I will not speak with you tonight of what must be spoken of..." he'd pull back the covers, with a graceful sweeping gesture he'd usher the boy under the covers... "you are to stay with me tonight, and in the morning, we shall have a bit of a talk before breakfast... now... let us rest... tomorrow promises to be just as long and tedious as all the rest..."

Sliding into the covers and pulling them up around the both of them... he wondered if Zerk would waken a bit more out of curiosity of what it was his brother wanted to talk with him about... so he would settle back and wait a moment, for if the child did not just drift back into sleep, well then, there wouldn't be a reason to withhold the needed conversation. Though, something hard poked him in the side, making his face twist up in discomfort. Reaching under the blankets he withdrew the book that had offended his side and put it on the night table to be dealt with in the morning. Giving a soft sigh as he'd just let his body melt into the soft mattress beneath his lean frame... oh, how good it felt to be off his damned feet... his own brightly colored eyes drifting closed for a moment... ::

He was still quite sleepy. Even though he was awake enough to understand the words of his surrogate father. Ah. Yes, he certainly knew that La'Zarius was his brother. The story had been explained to him once he became old enough to truely understand it. But it did not change how he viewed them. In his eyes his brother was indeed his father. A man he looked up to with adoration and respect. His sister was indeed his mother. he loved her and cherished the affection she placed upon him.

Zerk was, for lack of a better term, a good boy. He really was, in the manner of drow being good. So when it was that La'Zarius spoke of how late it was, he did not argue the matter. Zerk really rarely argued with La'Zarius anyways. he knew his father knew best, even in his sleep fogged state. He shifted upon the bed, mindlessly dragging the book with him as he would settle himself under the covers of the bed. He had already closed his eyes by the time La'Zarius had settled himself down near to him.

No words needed to be spoken at this point really. It was obvious it was time for them to sleep. Though, as La'Zarius would rid the bed of the books offending presence, Zerk would nestle himself down close to La'Zarius's body. His eyelids heavily closed, he murmured into the blankets that were covering all but the top of his head. "Missed you father. G'night."

:: A soft smile caressed his lips as he'd hear the whispered words of his son... an arm, looping about him as he cuddled in close to hold him against him as the boy fell back to sleep. "I missed you too Zerkxeiz..." pressing his lips to his brow he'd then lie back and allow sleep to come... it would be a long day tomorrow, and the unpleasant morning would be coming upon them soon enough. He knew the child wouldn't throw a tantrum... those he saved for the servants... but his pouting lips and sullen mood would be enough to put off the Necromancer's day. He did not enjoy punishing Zerk, though it most certainly needed to be done. Yet if he kept his mind on these unsavory thoughts he'd never get to sleep tonight and he'd end up shaking the lad awake just to get it over and done with... But it could wait, and it would... he would just need to remember to have a talk with Mehzra in the morning to let her know what he'd decided to do with Zerkxeiz... Of course the boy could run to her as soon as he left for the tower of Sorcere... it had happened before in the past... but this was something that had to stick... ~Enough already~ banishing the thoughts out of his mind and instead, smiling darkly with the knowledge that two of the servants lives were ending tonight... everyone would know about it... know that failure to do as was required of them meant an end to their employment, as well as their lives... and... well they would also know of the two that would be rewarded as well... for going beyond what was expected of them. Not that the pair would be exempt from La'Zarius' cruel judgment if ever they brought him displeasure, though the fact that they will be rewarded... could possibly make the other servants desire to serve the family even better then they had before.. it was thoughts of the deaths that were possibly occurring at this moment that he held too... letting his imagination go with just how his current Master at Arms would be tending to them.... if he knew the male for this one thing, it would not be pretty and it would serve as an example for all to see... Shame, his job would be short lived...well, perhaps not all that short, just until it was Zerk came of age... but, no use in telling him that now was there! ::
