How long had they been in their new home? Serafina wasn't even sure, really. But then again, it didn't seem to matter too much; while other Safi members still prowled around looking upset or distressed, the young female had watched her mother become quite relaxed with the situation. Not only that, but she was able to observe that now that Kenna didn't have a pride to rule (in fact, the ex-queen had been put on some weird responsibility-free rank because they didn't trust her), she was able to spend her time with Ji.
Either that, or the ex-queen sat to the side and enjoyed her time by snarking at the regents rather openly. Serafina had seen the way her mother and the black female (No? ... was that her name? Sera had never been good with names) passed their free time by bickering with one another. Sera was quite sure they liked each other, really. As if the enjoyed pushing each other's' buttons. It was obvious to her.
Alas, now that they were no longer new, finding new 'friends' to play with was starting to get difficult for the young female. Most of the ones she'd met so far either stiffened and ran away from her on sight, or openly opposed to play with her. That was no fun, "BAaAAaAaaaaawwwwwwwww~~" she whined as she entered her family's den, hoping at least one of her siblings was around to harass, "I'm booooooooooreeeeeed~~" it wasn't a good signal; when Serafina got bored, Bad Things happened, at least, if the scars that littered her body and the blood that was smeared across her maw were any indication.

Kenina preferred the den, to be quite honest. It meant less sand, despite the fact that there was still quite a bit tracked in. Less sand meant a cleaner pelt and a less grumpy Kenina overall. With nothing to drag her out of her den, nothing to spur her curiosity, she was happily curled up against the back of the den, resting pleasantly with a small reprieve from the heat of the midday dessert sun. As long as nothing caught her attention, she was perfectly content to stay within, away from the rest of the pride.
She'd observed enough to know what the tensions within the pride were like, and she seemed to be of the opinion that it might simply be better this way. One less Safi cub roaming about meant one less reminder to those stuck up Simos that their regents had allowed the merging. Not that that seemed to concern her mother much - as always, her mother was a lioness she could look up to. She was causing quite a stir, without really doing anything at all. She was simply.. existing. She was a reminder. Well, at least aside from the bit of bickering with the regents, but that seemed to be fair play.
It was her sister's voice that caused the frown on her maw, drawing her from her thoughts and her temporary pleasant mood. Serafina wasn't always the sister one wanted to see when the mood in the air was one of a slow nature. She rolled he eyes up to look at the bright red lioness, frowning and shaking her head. "Not today, Serafina, I'm in no mood to play," she was quite blunt with her wording, though she didn't move to sit up. She could hear it in Sera's voice, and Kenina didn't want any part of it.

Unfortunately... it was obvious that Serafina wasn't about to give her sister a choice in the matter.
As soon as the red lioness noticed that her black sister was sleeping inside the den, a horrible smirk spread her maw, her teeth showing as the light filtered around her in the cave opening. All in all, it must have been a disturbing image, if not one that poor Kenina was probably actually used to, "Awwwww, come on, 'Nina! I wanna play!"
Her tongue darted out and taste the blood that had been trailing down her maw and instantly her eyes seemed to spark. There wasn't even a warning this time; she rushed forward and threw herself at her sister, her jaws open, claws extended in an attempt to pin her and overpower her, "******** YOU! I TOLD YOU I'M BORED GODAMNIT!" she hollered at her sister, "DON'T YOU ******** DARE IGNORE ME, b***h! I'M GONNA EAT YOUR INSIDES!"
The bad part was that she actually probably meant what she was saying. Apparently, it didn't really matter to her if her opponents were blood related or not. Or did it?

Kenina pushed herself up to a sitting position as she heard her sister push more at her, though at this point she was still using, what Kenina liked to refer to as, her 'normal' voice. If she was still in that mode, then Kenina could get through to her, though she somehow doubted she was going to luck out this time. There was no one else to pawn Sera's attentions off on now, not like there usually was, and though she tended to avoid these little confrontations, she had the bad feeling that she was about to get Sera's attention full force. It was certainly not something she wanted.
"I told you Sera, I don't feel like playing right now, why don't you go see if you can find Rowtag," she began, trying to think of someone she could pawn Sera off on. Rowtag was a grumpy butt on most occasions, and with his silly talk about this secret plan, he could probably use Sera knocking some sense into him. However, that was when she saw that spark click on inside her sister's eyes and immediately she tensed - even before that slur of angry words bombarded her ears.
Once it did come, however, she knew she didn't have much of a chance but to sit here and try to think her way out. Running or fighting back, no, that just fueled that roaring fire that built inside Sera on such a whim. Thus, as her sister came charging at her with claws extended and jaws open, she let her take her down in a pin, turning her form so that at least the most tender parts of her body weren't as close to Sera's reach. As she felt the cave floor hit her back and Sera's claws find their target in her shoulders, she hissed, or tried to as best she could with her lost breath.
She only had seconds to react, but she had an idea, one that had formed simply from watching her mother bathing Sera on occasion. She reached up to butt her forehead against her sister's, though gently. "Sera, I love you," it was soft, despite the fact that all she wanted to do was tell her how much of a b***h she was. Then she turned her head to the side to nuzzle her cheek against her own - gritting her teeth as she felt the blood coating Sera's maw mat her fur.
Damn it, she was going to need another bath now.

"I DON'T ******** CARE ABOUT ROWTAG, b***h! I WANT-" it was right about then that Kenina's head butted against hers, effectively throwing her for a loop, if only because while the action was done with a bit of force, it was not what Serafina had been expecting. She had been expecting a hit; blood, pain, anger, which usually merely fueled her further.
Instead she found semi tender care, and the confusion on the young female's face showed openly. She'd always allowed her expressions to make her as readable as an open book after all. Despite it all, she shook her head, as if to clear it and growled down at Kenina, even if it was obvious the growl had lost grand part of it's earlier intensity. Then came the whispered words against her ear and the tender touch of her sister's cheek against hers.
If Serafina hadn't already been thrown for a major loop before, she sure was as soon as those words entered her skull and cut through the red haze, mostly because she knew Kenina meant them. They weren't just for show. Likewise, the nuzzle had been real, probably due to being sisters, no doubt. There was real love within the movement that no stranger could have imitated. She felt the anger drain away from her immediately and she took in a shaky breath, as if actually affected by the touch and words. As soon as the anger was vanished, the force with which she had been pinning Kenina down followed suit, and Serafina collapsed softly on top of her sister with a small 'thud' like sound.
For a full moment, there was no movement from the red female, as if she were actually shocked, or surprised. As if the words and actions had actually gotten through to her in some strange way. When she finally moved, it was gentle, so unlike she was used to doing, and she got off from Kenina, but kept her head hidden against her sister's neck, silent, as if the insanity that plagued her on a normal basis was gone. Amazingly enough, there were actual silent tear streaming down her cheeks.
No one aside her parents had done that. No one, and something about it felt special to her.

For a moment, Kenina hadn't been sure it was going to work, even as it seemed to paralyze her sister. It could go either way after Sera woke up from that immobilization. All that mattered was that she had tried, though. She couldn't fight back, that would only make things worse for her in the end, but this approach she thought could stop it. It wasn't even as if she were doing it based on untruths - she did love her sister, with all her heart, at least when she wasn't trying to kill her. Sure, right now she wanted to tell her all sorts of nasty things, but she had enough mind to remind herself just what Sera needed. Sera needed love, as cheesy as it sounded.
As soon as she felt her collapse, however, she let out a gentle sigh of relief and shut her eyes. She leaned her head in to press it closer to Sera's cheek, despite the fact that she was smearing her dark fur with the blood coating Sera's own brighter one. She supposed if Sera could stave off her anger, she could stave of her need for cleanliness - at least for now. As Sera rolled away, Kenina simply took a moment to draw in a deep breath (both because she was pleased to be in one piece, and because Sera was no longer crushing her with her weight). Then, her eyes glanced over at her red sister, studying her form for a moment.
"It's okay, Sera," she murmured, even as she felt the tears wetting the fur at her neck. She leaned her head against her sister's, eyes half shut as she gazed out at their den. Sera was sweet like this, when she was vulnerable and gentle. This was their moment. "I will love you no matter what you do, okay?" It was the truth, blood was thicker than water.

Her tears remain silent; there were no sobs, no sounds to indicate she was even crying. It was probable Serafina didn't even notice she was shedding tears, really. In fact, it became obvious she hadn't realised as much when her paw came up to rub at her eyes and she found the wetness there. Confusion marred her features, making her look childishly naive, as if she couldn't even begin to understand why she was crying, or what that meant.
Her eyes, golden like Kenina's own, turned to look up, but still, she seemed to be incapable of words. They were stuck somewhere in her throat and refused to come out, which was needless to say, a strange sensation for someone that was used to be so horribly vocal about everything, for better or worse. So thus, knowing that was a lost battle, she gave up on trying and instead resettled her face against her sister's neck. Despite the stillness of the moment, Kenina might have noticed a nodding motion of the red female's head as if agreeing with what she was saying, showing it in the only way she could.
She clung to the words like a lifeline, for reasons she couldn't even given to understand. She knew she wouldn't be changing; she was whom she was, and nothing was going to change that. However, it was vaguely comforting to know there would be someone there for her despite that unchanging fact. It was enough to cut through the haze of insanity and forge the beginning of a bond. As if an attempt to express this, Sera turned her head and begun to groom her sister's face like she'd seen her mother do so often, cleaning her off from the blood she knew subconsciously bothered her so.
"I'm sorry..." the words were barely whispered, hushed and hard to hear, but in the silence of the den, they rang honest.

She could feel the soft nodding of agreement against her neck, and she simply let her eyes shut as she let the silence fall over her. In a way, this was a very awkward situation, and she simply hoped none of their siblings walked in on it. She wasn't exactly sure how Sera would react if someone else barged in on her when she was at her most vulnerable. She especially didn't want to find out when it was her that was so close to her - she didn't want to exactly be in between Sera and whoever it might happen to be.
It was with surprise, however, that she reacted to Sera's cleaning. Her eyes opened slowly to roll up and look at her sister's matching pair. She wasn't sure why she was so surprised at Sera's understanding, but she wasn't about to refuse the cleaning - she did so detest dirty fur. She supposed if she was observant enough to realize something like how to deal with Sera, Sera should have been at least observant enough to realize that she herself really, really disliked being dirty. It was nice, such a sweet gesture that she actually smiled and rolled onto her stomach finally, so that she was in a more comfortable position curled up around Sera.
"I know," she said happily, eyes lulled somewhat as she let Sera clean her. "I forgive you," she whispered back softly, curling her tail around her sister's own.

"I know. I forgive you."
Maybe that was all she needed, because her ears twitched forward at the words, then flattened back against her skull, as if to keep other sounds from reaching her, a dull attempt to hear them resonate within her mind.
She continued to groom her sister silently till all trace of blood was gone, though she could do nothing to take away the tears she kept on shedding. She cried till she could cry no more; till no more tears would come and she was dry, but that was okay too, because she was forgiven. Her head came down to rest on the ground and her eyes lidded on as she breathed in the silence in the den.
Only once was the silence broken, when a mouse made a noise near the den entrance, and almost as if instinctively, Serafina moved her head to place it over her sister's frame, a growl of warning rippling through the silence as she offered the entrance a glare that would have frozen anyone in place. When the noise stopped, so did the growling, and Serafina allowed her eyes to drift shut.
There had been a silent promise within that single growl, but it was open for Kenina to interpret as she wished.

She put her head down on the ground as her sister finished cleaning, knowing that the tears flowed freely from her sister's eyes. There was nothing she could do to stem them, perhaps because it was her fault that she was crying to begin with, but something within Kenina told her that those tears were not a bad thing. They made Sera seem more vulnerable and normal than she had ever seen, and that was something that Kenina wouldn't apologize for.
Her eyes were lulled shut from the cleaning, and she was content with the silence in the den, feeling herself slowly drifting to sleep. It was only the growl that caused her to momentarily halt her drift off into the dreamworld, her mind fighting to wonder what she had been threatening. However, as she felt her sister place her head across her frame in such a protective manner, she knew that Sera was warning off intruders, and anyone that might come in to harm them - or come in to harm her.
A soft smile, almost a smirk, spread across her maw even as she drifted into the land of dreams.
