So what is it rap, rock, hip-hop, r&b, country, classic? And if you cant choose just list the types you usually listen to or a band. :]
With me I listen mostly to DDR songs sent to me by my buds, but I listen to everything.

I am technoholic but I also enjoy sitting back and enjoying some classic rock... esp Gun's n Rose's. Other than that I am almost down with any sort of music.

I'm classically trained, so classical. I'm also a country boy, and I love "world" music. Mostly Celtic and Japanese. I'm somewhat of a rock fan, and I have to say, I do not consider rap a type of music. Most musicians with formal training don't.

I guess rap dosen't always catch most of the trained ears. But if I listen to rap I don't usually listen to the lyrics but the music in the backround.

What music? It's simply the same chord over and over again, in different inversions to make it sound like it's a different chord. It's rarely more than two or three notes in guitar or bass, and maybe drums. That's it.

I'm a bit of a dancer so all I really need is a good sturdy beat. (NOT that kind of dancer) And a real musician can adjust to any music and make it their own, in my opinion. Besides, what's wrong with a little repetition? That's what a chorus is right? Like I said, I don't listen to rap much, and I don't necessarily count it as "real" music, but I do think that some rap isn't that bad. Then again, I'm not picky.

Let me put it this way. Rap has no lyrical line, no melody or harmony. Though I will admit that there are a few exceptions. A chorus is nothing like that. Sure, there's repitition, but it's still musical. There are some that would say Gregorian chants are not music. But those are the precusor to Renaissance music, and at least had a lyrical line. With the use of different voices, a harmony can be formed. The same is not true of rap.

Fine but, admit there are a few exceptions where rap, and/or r&b can have a meaning. Maybe not recent rap but oldies.
