Physical Description: Short in stature, flat chested with a thin frame. Tawny hair pulled back into a knot at the nape of her neck. Tan skin, she naturally has a darker complexion. Almond shaped brown eyes. She's extraordinarily ungraceful and clumsy.

Personality: Layn has "small woman's complex" because of her stature she feels the need to constantly over compensate for her physical appearance. She stands very straight, with her shoulders back to make herself look taller. Her intelligence and wit are not always apparent; she listens and pays attention to many things around her, a skill picked up while trying to learn more about dragons. Working in the kitchen she hears a lot of gossip, something she hates, but it also gives her a chance to listen in and learn.

Layn isn't always a charming and polite conversationalist, but she knows when she is supposed to be respectful. She gets along well with men and doesn't have a lot of female friends. She's more rough and tumble than sweetener and spice.

Layn enjoys fantasizing about what her life might have been like if she had a father figure in it. She feels self-entitled because her father was a rider, the only true fact she has about him. Layn tries very hard to convey an air of importance, believing that something great runs in her blood.

She is a very determined young lady, her willingness to accept anyone and do absolutely anything in order to gain information is a large fault in her personality, and can get her into major trouble. Socially she will quickly follow any orders given to her and will not question she is not a leader but a follower. Layn has always taken orders and never given them.



History: Layn is the daughter of a woman who changed Dragonrider's beds faster than most people change clothes, she is unquestioningly born of Weyr blood, but whose blood is the problem. Like many weyrbrats she wants to be just like a parent who was a rider. Layn's mother came to the Weyr as a candidate but never impressed, she lived the rest of her life in the Weyr, dying just after Layn turned seventeen tuns. Layn has followed in her mother's footsteps and once old enough hopped dragonrider's beds to gain information on dragons and anything dragon related. Layn is a weyrbrat. Before the two recent queens took flight, she was promised in the heat of passion, that her lover would make her a candidate. Her ego told her that he saw something in her; intelligence, or something more. Layn knew though that this lover was only making a false promise in the middle of the night.

Being a Candidate Layn is trying very hard to be respectable and respectful to others. She does her candidate chores and still helps out in the kitchen. At the end of the night is too exhausted for the activities she used to participate in.
