((Disclaimer: Brajan is a loner by nature and he will actually do or say things for his own amusement, even if he full well knows it will cause upset. In fact, for him, the more, the better. This is in no way an attack on you or your Kirin, so please don't take it as such smile The only ones immune to his particular venom are foals. That said, foals and fillies (new or growing) are more than welcome to join, as well as adults.)) Coarsing. Hooves pounding over thick grass, a reddy-brown stallion lifted his head to the wind, grinning his content. Someone else's territory, unclaimed land? Brajan didn't care. All he needed was the feel of packed earth, the cool grass whisking his flanks and the stars above him. The rest, as they said, was too the gods.
Until he was caught, at least.
But most stallions he encountered were at least someone tolerant of rogues, so long as they moved on quickly and left their mates in tact. And as he'd no real desire for female companionship, there was no cause for worry.
Slowing, he turned his head to the sky, eyes closed as he reveled in the feel of the cold wind on his damp fur. His scales almost seemed to absorb the light, leaving little more than a shadow on the landscape. The oceans. Maybe he would try the beaches next. It had been a long time since he'd seen sand, longer still since he'd splashed through the surf.
This was the life. Unattached, unadorned... simply living.

The brown little filly move through out the forest. She still was a bit unsteady on her legs as she moved. She moved slowly careful not to trip or fall on anything which had been a problem earlier on. Even after a few days from hatching, or was it more she had lost track of how much time had past, she was still pretty unsteady upon her own four legs. That and she had yet learned how to talk, or maybe there was the fact that she couldn't, maybe she was a mute. Still not trying to talk and being a mute are two different things, after all she had been able to make a few noises before.
The break of a branch from somewhere around her caused the little one to stop in her tracks. With a small 'Meep!' she looked up from here feet her head darting back and forth. She didn't know what was out there and really didn't want to find out. Slowly she began to back up her ears shifting flat against her head her tail still. Even on backing up she had problems as she tripped over her own feet causing herself to fall backwards. She gave a small sharp squeak once again, mainly in surprise, though most likely hadn't been the best idea. Now who or what ever made that noise would know she was there as well.
Slowly she inched herself towards a bush trying to conceal herself within it, not wanting the one who had made the noise first to find her. Yet the bush she picked to hide it was fairly smaller then her and parts of her mane, tail and a hoof could be seen out from under it. She shut her blue eyes and there in the bush she waited, waited till who ever or what ever it was, was far long and gone.

That was that. Time to move on.
Brajan's head jerked to one side as a sharp noise echoed through the sparse trees. As it came again, he turned and bolted, his nostrils flaring. The scent of fear wafted through the air, along with something headier, a musky scent. It was unlike anything he had yet encountered, but that didn't say much. Any Kirin blind or stupid enough to believe that he had seen everything would make a decent snack... and he would likely deserve it.
Besides, a healthy dose of paranoia never hurt anyone.
He slowed, ears turning forward as he listened. His eyes scanned the brush for some sign of threat, some indication of what had made that noise earlier. It had definitely sounded like the frightened bleating of one of his own, but where?
Green eyes moved to a trembling bush, then rolled toward the heavens. Stepping carefully, he positioned himself just before it, keeping himself between the foal and whatever it was that lurked beyond. It was still there, lurking.
Lowering his head, eyes narrowed, he cut a broad, imposing figure. He'd hoped it was enough, though he was more than able and willing to fight, should it come down to it. Might have even enjoyed it, but for the child in the bushes.

Cocoa stayed where she was still shivering in that overly small bush. After moments of silence had past and the threat gone the little filly poked he head out of the bush looking around, that was when she spotted the hind quarters of Brajan. Her blue eyes went wide at the large Kirin before her causing her to give another frightened whinny. She had yet to see another Kirin bigger then her before and those even at her size scared her. Though she found most things scared the small little filly. After seeing him she quickly pulled her head back into the bush, her heart racing as fast as it could her mind drawing a few blanks, her body becoming stiff with fear.
Yet still after a while of being in the bush her mind began to work once again she poked her head out of the bush staring up at him for a while. She began to wonder if she would grow as big as the Kirin before him. Her ears flicked as she tilted her head to the side finding herself stare up at him with strange curiosity. Maybe he knew who or where her parents where. It was what she decided to go off on her own and look for.

Snorting angrily, Brajan pawed at the ground. He heard scuttling in the bushes just across from him, caught sight of yellow eyes. Lynx or something, doubtless. Wouldn't be much of a challenge. As another frightened whinny cut the air behind him, he stamped a sharp hoof and glowered. Those gleaming eyes vanished into leaves and shadow.
Breathing a soft sigh, Brajan lifted his head, finally allowing himself to give in. His sides heaved as he drew in a few gulps of air. Unamused green eyes turned on the speckled filly.
"What are you doing out here without your herd, youngling?" It was far too late for the little one to be out here at night, much less alone. His eyes narrowed somewhat, trying to exude a particular stern that he didn't exactly feel over his concern.

Cocoa tilted her head to the side her ears flicking. She didn't understand what he was saying or trying to say. She still was a bit frightened of him but yet her fears were melting away slowly. With him there she felt safer then she had been, even when she had hatched or was by herself. A little grin came to the small filly's face as her tail flicked, she had decided that she liked the male before here.
With a soft whinny as she moved pushing herself onto her hooves. Cocoa took a few steps out of the bush and then tripped over her own hooves, falling flat on her face. She giggled softly snorting as she did so, she found laughing at her own mistakes let her forget about what had just happened.

Brajan stared in slack-jawed consternation. "You-...."
Sighing in defeat, he shook his great mane. "Alright, alright. There." Lowering his muzzle, he pushed her left flank, then her right, forcing her hind end up. He pressed his nose to her chest next, either side, hitching either leg until she was standing, shakily, but she was at least up. He moved before her, his brow knit. "Where are your parents, little one? Have you eaten?"

A small smile spread crossed her face when she was helped back up. Her ears flicked at the word 'parent' a confused frown fell across Cocoa's face, trying to tell him she didn't know where they were. As for eating she didn't know what he was talking about, though the small gurgles of her stomach proved other wise.

Entreating patience, Brajan rolled his eyes skyward once more. "Come on, then. You couldn't have made it too far from your herd."
Striding through the trees, slow to match her pace, he stopped a short distance from the brush where he'd found her. Craning his neck, he pulled down a thick branch, laden with some manner of sweet smelling green fruit. Snapping the bough, he dropped it to the grass, then stepped on the broken end. He pulled one of the fruits from the branch, dropping it before her.
"There. Try it."
He glanced off, as though this was entirely beneath him. Babysitting, of all things. Still, his ears flicked as he listened for danger in the forests around them. Or perhaps the sound of other Kirin. He hadn't seen more of their kind in several days. No telling where she had come from.

Cocoa followed him fairly slowly, careful not to trip on anything, or over her own self like before. She looked up at him with a questioning expression to his first statement. She had no heard being alone since when she had hatched.
Her blue eyes followed his movements with curiosity till the fruit dropped before her. Cocoa bent down and sniffed at it poking it with her nose. When she poked it, it rolled which excited her. She whinnied happily and poked it again rolling it once more. Soon she was happily rolling the little green fruit around the clearing, that was until she tripped once again falling right on top of it squishing it with impact.
Cocoa rolled off of it a sad expression coming onto her little face. Her ears shifted back and she whined softly, sad that her 'toy' had been squished. Yet with the juices now freed to the air the little filly was curious on its sweet smell. Finding the smell appealing she giggling softly. Cocoa then decided to taste it, licking the juices with her tongue. The sweetness of it caused her to squeak with happiness as she began to lap up the rest of the juice as well as the fruit from the ground where it laid. When she was finished she glanced over at Brajan looking at him wondering if tehre was more.

Exasperated, Brajan watched the filly as she rolled the fruit across the ground. Settling, in, he closed his eyes. No, no... she likely didn't know what it was. Let her explore with it, play with it.
Relief welled in him when she finally smooshed it, though he felt a pang in his chest as she cried. Sighing, he rose up, tearing off a larger sample. As she looked at him, he started forward and set it down in the grass before her.
"There. You haven't learned to feed yourself? Honestly. What's your name, little one?"

She settled herself down next to the larger fruit which had been place before her. Pressing her nose against the skin of the fruit she opened her mouth and bit into it getting at the juices inside. With a mouthful of fruit she looked up at him, snorting softly. Curiousity of how he spoke began to grow with in her. Swallowing she wondered if she too could do the same. She licked the fruit where she bit into it getting some more of its taste on her tongue before she tilted her head back to look at him. She opened her mouth to speak but her tongue could form no words, not even a small sound would come out.
Closing her mouth she frowned and went back to eating the other piece of fruit. So many questions began to form within her mind but it looked as if she couldn't voice them. Who was he? What was a Name? A heard? Who where here Parents? Was he one of them? Where were they? and lastly. What was this interesting thing she was eating? It was good, very good, but she wanted to know what it was. She began to wonder if there would be a way to ask these questions to the bigger Kirin.

With a yawn, the stallion lay in the grass before her, oblivious to the questions flooding through her mind. As she fruitlessly opened her mouth, it became that much more evident she likely couldn't speak. Brajan tilted his head curiously.
"Mute. Then again, you can bark warning and discontent with the best of them. Perhaps words simply fail you now." Watching her, he considered long. Then again... "You're young. Can you even understand the things that I say to you?"
He doubted it somehow. Her world was still one of taste, of touch. She still moved clumsily. "Maybe just a few days from the egg..."

She tilted her head at him with a small smile on her face. She could understand some but it just only put more questions within in her small mind. She then pushed the half bitten fruit towards him, wanting to share the last of it with him. Her tail flicked behind her as she set let her head drop to her chest tiredly. It had been a long day, still she didn't really feel like sleeping, there was so much more to explore with in the forest.

Brajan sighed softly with another shake of his head. "No little one, but thank you. I've had my fill." Reaching over, he hooked his muzzle around her middle and drew her to his side. "Warmer," he said simply in explanation, not entirely certain she would even understand. And that was all. It would simply be warmer for her at his side.
He smelled of the wind and the grass of the plains. A wanderer. Like her, he might muse later. But for now, it was time to rest. He lifted his head to the wind, sniffing out danger. Bedding down in the forest... he'd not done that in a long time, in his more reckless days. But for tonight, it might just work.
