With the image of a shiny needle flashing through his mind, the tailor apprentice sets down the sleeve he was sewing a patch into to canvas the shop. "Thell, where did you hide that needle?" Kita frowns mildly for just a moment and sets off on a search for the stolen tool. How many times had he tried to get his point across to the green flit that his needles weren't there to be taken and stashed away and forgotten until the pile of cloth or stack of patterns was moved and they fell out or gave a little p***k to the finger to be found.
Catching sight of green from the corner of his eye, Kita walks for the room where the different colors of fabric are stashed. A weight on his shoulder followed by a light creen and another flash of the needle in his mind and the green flit is quite comfortable on her perch. "Thell where did you hide it? I need that needle, please?" A few minutes of fruitless searching and he tries the next method. "There's food for you if you bring it back." A quick flash of a strip of meat from Kita, and the flit is off looking for the needle herself. Honestly, when the bribing method failed he'd be at a loss for keeping his needles and spools safe.

For once, his shoulders were even. Sort of. Dusk was heavier than River, and sitting on the shoulder that was less used to being sat on. Still, he was quite gratified that Dusk had considered it worth leaving the weyr this morning. Both of them seemed to love tailors for some reason, and he'd managed to get across to them that they were going to a new one today. He was thoroughly unhappy with the service he'd been getting down at the Hold, and as such he was finally visiting the in-Weyr tailor. He hadn't decided quite what he was after yet, but he wanted something new, and he supposed he might as well spend the mark River had brought to him the other day.
As he stepped into the shop,, his grey eyes scanned it critically. At first glance everything was in order, and now he knew what it was that pale boy got up to. Apprentice? Had to be, he was too young for a journeyman. A swift flash of moment caught his eye a moment later, and L'thor smiled; someone else with a flit. Doubtless they would have plenty of things to talk about whilst he was making his mind up. People who didn't have firelizards just didn't quite seem to understand how wonderful the annoying little buggers were.
"Hyperactive, prone to cause mischief, often vain," his dragon's voice smirked. "You just like the little things because they remind you of yourself.
L'thor gave a snort of disgust and chose not to dignify that with a response. He was far smarter than flits were for one, and for another... Well, yes. Ha; for another he wasn't fixated with food, so there!
Very good Mine, Raith sent along with an amused rumble, "very good."

At first Kita hadn't noticed the shop was empty save for Thell and himself, until a light keen from the flit alerts him to look back towards the entrance when Thell ends her search for her stolen needle to fly at the newcomer and his flits excitedly.
"Thell stop. I'm sorry she's not usually this hyper." Well, maybe about half of the time. Kita gives up his search for the needle and walks back towards the entrance himself after the flit. "My master isn't in right now, but maybe I can help?" He reaches up to try and catch Thell before she could start circling, and does a poor job of it. "Thell please calm down." Reminding her of the meat he'd promised seems to do a fair job of getting the flit to calm down and she perches on one of the workbenches expectantly, watching L'thor and his flits intently. "I'm sorry about that, we don't get many people in the shop with flits with them. She gets excited easily."

L'thor smiled and shook his head as River took off and flew over to the green flit with an excited squeak of greeting. "Not at all," he said with a nod towards the cheerful blue flit, "he's just as bad. I think you probably can help me," he went on, reaching up to stroke Dusk who was projecting a need for fuss to him. "I haven't come here with anything I really need in mind, other than something new. A Shirt, jerkin, tunic, cloak; no idea," he grinned at the pale boy and shrugged, "what do you think I should buy?" He did need ideas after all, and he was still trader enough not to be taken in by a pretty patter. He'd get himself something that was nice, useful and affordable.
"'m L'thor by the by," he went on with a smile, "the curious one is River, and the lazy one is Dusk. They're both very happy to be here though; they like tailors shops for some reason." Perhaps because he liked them too; it was certainly possible.

Kita watches the blue flit for just a moment as its greeting gets Thell's interest piqued enough to leave her perch and fly circles around him with a squeak of her own back. "Well I can try to help as best I can as long as she doesn't hide any more of my needles." He manages a polite smile for a moment. "I'm Kita, and that's Thell. But as for ideas for something new, we can make nearly anything. Are you in need of a new piece in particular or just new in general?"
A look back at his workbench shows him his needle that he was just using before is safely where he had left it. "I'm not the best at making suggestions, my master hasn't passed that on to me just yet, but maybe looking at fabric colors could help? Oh but if you're looking to save, my master keeps the more expensive cloths in the front to be seen first and the cheaper ones are put in the back." A clever idea for marketing, but the finer points of making those sales was still a bit far from being mastered for the apprentice. Turning to walk over to the bolts of fabric himself he glances back a L'thor a moment again. "I wouldn't suggest anything white though."

L'thor frowned thoughtfully and shook his head slightly. "No, the palest I usually go for is a mid cream. I tend to prefer muted tones; personally I find that vivid colours look rather crass on most people, myself among them. Some can wear bright red or gold, but I'm not one of those who can. Silvery greys, browns, dark or subtle blues tend to be my preferences..." He supposed he could do with a new shirt; quite a few of his smart ones had been rendered thoroughly unsmart by wine stains. "A shirt," he decided aloud, "something with big sleeves but close cuffs I think."
Seen as Kita had pointed him at the fabrics, he set off towards them and began to look them over. He had to admit that the higher end was very good quality; there was some silk and everything... Humm. "Do you have any dark brown silk?" L'thor asked as he glanced about at the range of materials on display. River meanwhile gave another happy cheep and fluttered over to see what L'thor was finding so interesting. When he alighted on the human's shoulder, he found himself disappointed by the fabrics and took off again almost immediately. L'thor scowled slightly and tried to give the blue flit the impression that if he messed with anything he'd be missing dinner. From the chastened creel the firelizard gave, he'd got the gist of the message.
"I've told him to behave," L'thor said to Kita with a roll of his eyes and a gesture at River. "This one here's much less trouble," he added with a chuckle, "far too lazy to go around stealing things, or sticking his nose into places it shouldn't be, aren't you Dusk?" The dark blue flit crooned happily, pleased at being spoken to in a kind tone but understanding no more than that.

Kita gives a light nod to that and looks past the section of whites. At least his master kept things so organized and easy to sort through. "Closed cuffs? How wide for the sleeves then?" Brown though, that would take a little bit of sorting through the cloths to find. "We may have it in brown, my master sells a good bit in copper but that's too metallic for brown."
He pauses to glance at the man again and nods a little bit. "I'm not too worried, Thell has enough mischief here to get into that I'm used to it. She's taken to taking needles and spools of thread and hiding them in places where they aren't found again for sevendays." He smiles a little at Dusk. "Your flits are both very pretty though" Thell gets bored with the conversation as well and flies over to perch on L'thor's head and watch River fly curiously with another light creen.

L'thor smiled, gratified by the compliment to his flits and gave a slight nod. "Your Thell is quite lovely too... Copper sounds like it might be good actually if you don't have a deep brown." He didn't own anything in that shade, but he felt it might suit him. He could always set the material against himself to see in any case. "As to the sleeves," he went on, "I'm not quite sure. Full but not ridiculous, though I suppose everyone have a different definition of that. The things I've seen on some lord holders would be wide enough to make two more shirts out of each sleeve in all probability." Probably compensating for a lack in other departments in his opinion.
"You are so very critical of anyone with rank," Raith chuckled into his mind. "Not all of them are idiots you know."
"Mmm, that's your opinion," L'thor replied. "If they're not sharding pompous idiots when they get their rank, the vast majority soon become that way. Power almost always corrupts in one way or another. It makes people greedy, or selfish, or it makes them look down or others or it makes them cowardly and afraid of losing all they have gained. Fools all, deadglows and werry-heads." He had no use for the like of bronze riders, queen riders and lord or lady holders. They thought they were better than him just because they'd lucked into power. They were wrong. Very wrong.
"If you've any pre-made patterns with wide sleeves I'll take a look at them," L'thor said once he'd finished his internal rant. "Even if I don't fancy any of them I might be able to point out elements I like to make up a new one."

Thell gives a happy chirp from her perch before Kita can speak up, seeming to key in on her name in the conversation.. or just the way L'thor was speaking in a good way. Kita shakes his head just lightly at the flit and reaches in to pull the bolt of fabric out. "I'm thankful for that request then, making sleeves too wide is really a chore to keep that much fabric from bunching in the wrong place. But this is the copper here, it has a bit of red in it if the light catches it sometimes which is why my master manages to go through the color often."
He doesn't pay too much mind to the small bit of silence from L'thor and takes it as an opportunity to set the cloth down on the workbench and spread a fold of it out so L'thor can get a better look at it. "I can look for the patterns for you, and you can see if the copper cloth is really what you want." Thell takes the opportunity to leave her perch and swoop for the fabric with a creen at the other flits.

River launched off his shoulder, probably with a mind to land on the shiny stuff and so L'thor directed him firmly to a space on the workbench beside the cloth. The blue flit landed for only a moment before hopping back into the air and flitting over to croon cheerfully at Thell again.
L'thor chuckled at the flits antics for a moment before looking down at the fabric. It really was nice material. Was it too flashy for him? No, not quite. It wasn't gold or anything, didn't scream for attention when you looked at it. Subtle beauty; just the way he liked his clothes. Frowing thoughtfully, he laid a hand down on the cloth and inspected his skin tone against it. Well that was good; it went with that. Bending over, the green rider pulled some of his chestnut hair over his shoulder and inspected how that looked with the fabric. Again, it was a good contrast. Not too similar a hue, but not clashing either.
"Yes, this copper looks good," he said with a nod as he turned to Kita again. "I'd value a second opinion though; last thing I need is to delude myself into believing something suits me just because I like the colour." Some people would insist on wearing their favorite shades, no matter how bad they looked in them. D'los had been notorious for that before they'd been together; he'd always loved to get hold of things in rich bright blues that suited his complexion and eyes not at all. He missed taking his weyrmate to the tailor and choosing shades that did look fetching on him. Had it really been almost a turn now? Yes, it had. Time had flown away from him, and that could only be a good thing.

Thell chirps at River and makes a dive for the other workbench where the discarded needle is sitting to snatch the shiny object up. Kita frowns for just a moment at the green before shaking his head and grinning to himself. Predictable.
He goes back to flipping through the patterns, pulling out a couple before finding a third to carry back over. "These are the templates for wide sleeves that I could find." A moment later he looks at the fabric again. "The color can be too strong if you had a matching shirt with trousers of the same, but as a shirt alone it would look alright. The warm color is also a good shade to make your eyes stand out, if that is something you are looking for." Well some people liked to buy fabric that set off their eyes, or their hair, so it seemed like a good thing to mention.

"Mmh," L'thor nodded his agreement as River flitted after Thell and trying to study the needle in flight. L'thor choose to ignore the pair of firelizards; so long as they were keeping themselves harmlessly entertained he was perfectly happy to leave well enough alone. "I'd look like a complete fool with matching trousers, or flashy ones come to that," he went on, "Dark brown, grey, maybe black would work. I suppose I shall have to experiment."
If nothing he had went with the shirt, he could always get new trousers after all. Worst case scenario, he had to earn himself a few marks by taking passengers from the Hold places they wanted to go. Raith didn't seem to mind such tasks, but personally he rather resented needing to earn his marks by playing at courier.
"That's because you have an ego bigger than a gold's wingspan," Raith told him with a chuckle. "Really there's nothing wrong with helping folk less fortunate than yourself out, is there? Especially if they pay you good marks for your trouble, it means you can buy pretty things for yourself and I know you like to do that."
"Mmm, the eternal dilemma; pander to my own hugely inflated ego, or earn marks to buy myself nice things. Such hard decisions my life is made up of," he sent back to his dragon teasingly. Earning marks usually won out in the end anyway, that way he had something to spend and something to gripe about.
Frowning thoughtfully, L'thor looked over the patterns. First too small, last too large, second good. He tapped it thoughtfully with a forefinger. "This one I think. A simple design for the rest of the shirt would be best I think; the sleeves are fancy enough without going into ribbons and frills or anything of that ilk."

Thell gives the blue flit a squeak, whirling around to perch on a stack of orders and setting her precious stolen needle down in front of her. Kita spares them a quick glance before writing down a couple things onto the workbench. "Dark brown would compliment and bring out the red tones in the copper. Black might be a strong contrast, but if you wore a black vest with that coupling then the copper would be more of an accent."
He puts the other two patterns away and nods. Another glance up and he grins just faintly. "You didn't strike me as one looking for ribbons or frills. But any design sewn into the hems?" His mind serves him the funny image of the rider in a frilly shirt and he shakes it off in amusement. No, frills wouldn't suit, glad he knew that himself. Some people came in wanting the oddest things. "I'll need to have your measurements to have the shirt fit, and add a bit to the arms for their width.. and I think that should be it."

L'thor frowned thoughtfully for a moment before shaking his head. "No, I think designs would be a bit much as well," he said as he stood obediently for measurements. "Get off Dusk," he added, shrugging the shoulder that the flit still perched on, "you'll be in the way up there." The large blue gave a resigned cheep and hopped off L'thor's shoulder, spreading his wings to glide down onto the workbench. After a moment or two, he decided that it was worth the effort of more flying to go and join his fellow flits, and launched himself into the air again. River, who had landed not far from Thell and was peeing at her needle, cheeped at his brother and shuffled sideways to give him room to land.
L'thor chuckled softly at their antics and shook his head. "Amazing, Dusk actually moves more than necessary for once. How long have you had your Thell?" He'd seen the green flit buzzing around with the pale tailor more than once, and she looked pretty adult to him but he couldn't guess more than that. He'd had his two for... eleven turns? Yes, had to be about that. How long did flits live anyway? He'd never thought to ask anyone that, but both Dusk and River still looked much as they ever had since maturing so he doubted they were all that old for their kind yet.

Thell gives an excited chirp to the second blue flit and noses her needle once. Little wings flap once before settling back again and she noses the needle once more, getting it to turn over. Kita watches the blue for a moment. "He's a graceful flyer though."
"Thell? I've had her for around three turns, by now. I sometimes wonder if she'll grow out of some of that energy, but no signs of it as yet." He grins lightly towards the flits, hearing another chirp from Thell as she heard her name mentioned twice again. Kita goes into a search for the measuring tool again, hoping Thell hadn't found it earlier in the day and decided to hide it in one of her nests. The last time the flit had taken his measuring tool it took hours to find her stash of stolen goods. "Just a moment, I need to find the measure so I can get your sizes down for the shirt."
