A great yawn escaped the mouth of a pale lioness as she stretched her limbs. Once she finished, she looked back to the sleeping pile of her family beneath the group of trees they'd slept under. Her niece and nephews...her cubs by blood beside her adopted cubs...her sister...She'd lost two families. And now...now she had a new one. One that didn't fill the void, but had its own place in her heart to counter it.
She smiled and looked to the east...where the sun was rising. A new day, a new start. Codail looked forward to it.

Stupid sun. It'd always wake him up no matter how hard he tried to avoid it. Shifting against his sister, Caide attempted to bury his face under her, but then huffed. Great, nature was calling. With a grunt, the pale male with the orange eyes woke up and blinked hard against the hardly shining light. He wobbled as he walked, nowhere near ready to be up and walking around, but hey.
Once he was far enough away, he did what he needed too and then shuffled back towards the heard he called his family and tripped over someone's paw. Tumbling, Caide let out a hard whine and huffed, looking back up and spotted his mother.
"Mooom," he whispered and whined out to her, moving closer. Once there, he nuzzled up against her and gave a little contented purr. "Momma, why's the sun always comin' up from that way?" he asked, pointing in a vague direction, not even sure if it was the right way. He wanted a bath and grooming time right now. Caide also had a few questions about his adopted siblings. Like, why were they adopted and things like that. However, he knew better than to ask them in rapid fire.

First to wake, first to bathe. Codail chuckled as she licked the top of her son's head. "Because that is the direction Brother Sun chose to rise from." She smiled. "Why he chose that way, no one but him is sure." And she proceeded to clean Caide, ready for the barrage of questions that inevitably came with his waking.
She didn't mind his curiosity, not in the least. And she tried to explain to the best of her ability...and tried to teach him when it was not good to ask probing questions. Right now...right now was a good time. Especially since they were the only ones up.

"Oh...." That's all the curious cub had to say about that. Letting his tail flick to the side, he leaned against his mother and nuzzled up against her happily, giving his childish purr; trying to seek the attention. After all, Caide was just a child who wanted to please his mother. The bath didn't bother him so much, he was used to it. More often than not, Caide was the first one up and the first to get a bath. Huffing a little, he sniffled a bit and then grinned up at her.
"...Momma, how come some of my litter mates ain't the same as lions?" he asked. He didn't know what species they were, he'd never asked before. "And how come I have orange eyes? Why not your eyes? I look like you... Just not the eyes."

Ah...she was wondering when those questions would pop up. Well then. She smiled gently. "Some of your littermates aren't lions because I didn't birth them, like you." The little cheetahs she'd found...It was sad when a mother abandoned their young. "I found them, and they didn't have a Mom...so I took them in, so they would have a Mom. And then I had you and Fied and Lugh and Talamh and Chincha."
She laughed softly. "Because they are your father's eyes." Codail licked his cheek. "He was a pale lion, like me...white with a mane and tail the color of Talamh's markings, and eyes like yours."

"I wanna be green," he muttered, leaning into the lick and then frowned. So most of his siblings didn't have a momma, and now his momma were their momma. "What about their daddy? I thought most couples stayed together." So he didn't know much about how the world worked yet, but he'd learn. Leaning against her he stretched out and flopped over onto his back, pawing at her face a little.
"Momma, when are we going to be joining a big family? I know our family is big. And how come my color doesn't match you? And where's your family? What happened to your home to make you wander 'round all the time?"

Codail sighed. "I'm not sure about their Daddy, love. There was no adult male scent on them when I found them. The only males they'd ever known were Goma and Utkarsh." She chuckled sadly. "There are many couples who...do not stay together. Your father and I are one. Sometimes...things just don't mesh right." She touched her nose to his smaller one.
"We will join a pride when we find the right one. And your color doesn't match mine because you got Auntie Muscail's color. It happens in families." His last question made her wince. "That...that is a story I cannot tell you yet, little one. Only that something very horrible happened, and it hurt Mommy and Auntie Muscail's hearts very, very much."

The cub felt bad for bringing up the painful memory for his mother and he pressed closer and tried to cheer her back up but nuzzling their noses together. With a little lick to her nose, he ducked to n** at her chin. "So... what pride are we gunna join? Are there lots of prides? Oh! Can I be king?" He puffed up at that last question, Caideiseach as a king! He'd pictured it a few times, in his own pride of pale lions just like him. It would be amazing!
"If I made a pride, Mommy, of pale creatures, would you come and visit even though you'll be in a different pride?"

Codail gently nipped back. "That depends, little one." She chuckled. Her son would certainly make an interesting king. "Well...it has to be lush, and have a certain...mystical quality to it. Your aunt and I wouldn't do very well in someplace that didn't have that quality."
Codail nodded. "Of course I would come and visit, love." No matter what, Codail intended to keep up with her family. She wouldn't loose them, not again, and especially not to distance.

A mystical quality? What did that mean? he thought on that a bit and huffed. Did she mean like the mists they were heading for? Maybe... "But you'd come and visit even if you couldn't live there, right? 'cause I'd be a King! And... what'd that make you?" He blinked at that and pouted a little.
That was a good question. What did the Kings mothers get called? He knew his siblings would be princes and princesses, but.... Argh, to much thinking. His head was starting to hurt! He was going to say something else when he heard more of his siblings starting to stir and he frowned a little bit. Conversation time with mommy was almost over. But! There was always tomorrow.

Codail chuckled. "I would still visit, sweetling." She licked the top of his head. "And I would simply be your mother. That's the sort of position I prefer." Codail loved being a mother...being surrounded by little ones, and those who needed her. The stirring of the rest of the family caught her attention. "Ah...your sibs are waking, dear. More questions tomorrow?"

Nodding his head to her question, Caide yawned himself and stretched out once again. "More tomorrow then, momma. Remember, you promised!" What that, the little one went to his siblings, greeting each of them before he nestled back down to go back to sleep, getting weird looks in which he ignored.
