"So the spirits are tempered today...." Shaded eyes casted up to the dark sky along the horizon, a smirk touching his features. The clouds were smeared just enough as proof to the rain soaking the distant mountains, and the male could only wonder if they'd pour here as well. The soquili took a deep breath, lungs and chest expanding as he inhaled the fresh scent of fallen rain, even from so far. It was so...enticing. Jumanjii' stood quiet for some moments, tail flicking lightly as his thoughts mused in his skull. Then with a firm nod and mind made up, the stallion trotted forward. Why wait for the experience when he could see it and embrace it himself? He'd reach that storm this day, and like his family before him he'd gallop in the rain.

It had been an interesting evening for the mare after she had located her otter companion. He had been absent for a number of weeks and consequently she hadn't been able to live her life 'normally'. That being said the unicorn's life was hardly normal but she had missed the gossip sessions the pair often shared during the mornings and evenings when she had finished socialising for the day. Of course everyone needed a holiday and the mare understood as much, but having been left in the company of male soquili for quite so long it was comforting to have her friend back - male soquili just weren't interested in the same subjects as she was after all. Not that she didn't appreciate their company when she needed it, of course...

Nevertheless the sun had risen as it did every morning and the lark within her woke up bright and early. Now that she had recovered from the initial grogginess that one often endured when they woke up, her pale pink eyes surveyed the albeit serene horizon that lay beyond the forest's edge. At first it appeared the day would be pleasant but as she broke through this forest edge it became apparent that she may be in for a little more. It had only taken her a few moments to detect the scent of rain within the air and even less time for her to come to the conclusion that the weather may turn shortly. After all, a quick glance over her shoulder confirmed that the mountains were receiving their fair share of rain this morning - that would be one place she wouldn't going immediately then, what with all the slipping hazards (she wouldn't admit she wasn't keen on the mud).

"Mmmm," she gave a stretch from tail to nose and smiled appreciatively. Her nostrils flared as a breeze brushed against her whiskers and soon after her tail coiled lazily round her hind leg, she'd had the habit since foalhood and it wouldn't be leaving her anytime soon. Satisfied that she was now ready to begin her day the mare then turned her attention to the necessity for food and paused once again, standing stock still as she debated which would be better - Dew tipped grass or Apples.

...It was a very important question.

Hooves thundered under his weight, his path imprinted on the soft grass behind him as he raced across the plains. Chest heaved as he pushed further, faster, as if comparing speed against the morning's light. Maybe it was still too early, and that's why he was finding himself quickly winded? No, that couldn't be it. He had to better pace himself. Focus! With tail lashing at his flanks, Manjii' forced himself to slow up and match his stride with his breathing. That effort alone was enough to keep him from panting too much. Too bad it didn't share in his sense of direction.

Turning eyes forward once again, the male snorted loudly at the predicament he found himself in. He had veered in his distractions, and the thin edge of the woods had made way into his path. How could he have missed that, with the sounds of young bark whizzing past his sharp ears? Grunting, the soquili dug his heels into the earth as he attempted to halt without faceplanting into a poor sapling. Young grass tore and bent under his slide, and it was enough friction to help slow his momentum. Frowning despite his success, Manjii' flitted his tail. "Damn it, so much fer' pacin." He could feel his own blood protesting at the sudden stop, and it grinded his nerves that he made such an error. Now to start all over again...he might as well have fallen over in a tumble. Nostril flaring like a jittery bird's body, he turned to view his options. What he hadn't expected was there to be an audience...

Was it time for visitors already? Sparkles was fairly certain she hadn't overslept and consequently she lifted a brow at the sudden interruption. Her ears had swivelled initially as she had heard the thundering hooves grow louder and she had gazed at her own when the ground had quivered. No sooner had she lifted her eyes again, than the male had entered the clearing she had stepped into and seemed intent on colliding with a tree. She was incorrect in her initial assumptions though, for the blue stallion skidded to a halt and seemed to utter something that she couldn't quite comprehend from her current position. Suffice to say, it wasn't the most traditional way to introduce yourself...especially at this time in the morning. She would not be deterred though and blinked twice as he spun round and began to fidget in a rather bizarre manner.

...Why were males so twitchy?

Shaking her head, the mare shifted the forelock out of her eyes and pursed her lips. He seemed disgruntled and having experienced her fair share of angry stallions she was just a tad cautious about interrupting his hissy fit. Admittedly it wasn't a huge hissy fit, but he had that face on that warned her that he could possibly decapitate her or worse...pull out her tongue. That being said, now that he had seen her and crashed into her peaceful morning reverie she supposed there was little avoiding the fact that she had a visitor and as a good hostess...

"Good morning!" She offered merrily, the warm smile flicking onto her equine lips as she addressed him.

Alright, for a soquili of Manjii's mindset, the mare's response was not that of an expected one. A critique, a jibe, even an insult....all of the above were replies the male would have expected for his rampaging stumble. And he would of had a smart remark for each in turn while holding a grin. But a simple "Good morning"? And with enthusiasm to boot?.......

Still breathing through his nostrils, Manjii' paused for a needed sigh. Only now while holding still did he realize his left knee was trembling from the ordeal. He could only smirk at the silly reaction of his body before shaking the fringe of his mane from his eyes. "I 'spose it is a fine morning. So long as the sun did rise, it's fine by me." He chuckled, short and deep, before raising a brow at the other that he interrupted. Snake-like tail and a horn through her scalp....why it was another Uni. The troll soquili grinned lightly at a memory of a uni friend of his, rugged in both attitude and skin. "Heh, at least ya keep your pelt clean." Amazing how a crisp appearance can make such a difference.

"In any case, I 'pologize for crashin' into ya terrain. It wasn't near my intention or course of travel ta do so." And he turned his eyes swiftly back to the mountains, as if worried the storm would vanish from view.

He had an awfully funny accent, Sparkles' expression clouded briefly as she spoke and she mulled over each word carefully. She didn't like to misunderstand others, it led to uncomfortable encounters and so she always took at least a moment to translate. Of course in time (depending on the length of the encounter) she would grow accustomed to his tongue and would no longer need to pause but for the time being she would be puzzled. Suffice to say he wasn't really from around here, or if he was he had been raised by parents who didn't originally come from here. Oho - another traveller? Her sunny expression reappeared at the prospect of having something in common with the albeit abrupt strange and she coiled her tail around her hind leg.

"Well, the sun certainly did rise," she confirmed with a serious nod as though she was uncertain as to whether or not he had been toying with her. It was an easy observation to make and one she wouldn't be scoffed upon so long as she didn't look right at the burning orb and end up blind. Nevertheless, this thought aside she was mildly taken aback by what he said next and very quickly did a double take of her own form. Admittedly she hadn't had the time to groom properly this morning but...

"Of course I would be clean," she gave a small laugh, her tail tightening around her leg for moral support. "Why wouldn't I be?" She mused after an instance of silent. Again she check her legs just in case, furrowed her brow and returned her gaze to the stallion. She regarded him quietly for a few moments (a rarity for her) and then spoke again. "Why, do I have something on my face?" she asked warily. She could barely wait to hear the response and would be ever so embarassed if she had a smudge but she would persevere - she could make dirt look pretty if she had to!

"Don't worry about the terrain, I'm sure the grass spirits will forgive you," she chuckled and rolled her shoulders. She couldn't really speak for the grass but she supposed that if the tiny blades had known they had saved the stallion from smacking into a tree spirit they would have really been quite proud. "Just so long as you aren't hurt."

Hm, perhaps confusion was uncomfortable when it came to communicating, but the stallion found the wait to be just as trying. The unicorn's expression held placid, but with a firm focus that Jumanjii' didn't know how to react towards. Was she upset? Spacing, even?... So he stood his spot with unseen hesitance, using the short time to subtly stretch his front leg. But the fluttering smile that returned to her face alerted him with confidence that they were on positive terms.

And while the mare didn't turn to the sun, Jumanjii' had as she mentioned the orb. It was useful to have such full locks to help block the harsh rays from his pupils, but the clouds held enough cover at the moment against the light. All the same, the sun had indeed risen. Ears pinned back though as his attention returned to the other, her laugh refocusing him.

"Oh, I nay meant it as cruel remark." Had it sounded so? The male frowned at his inability to communicate smoothly. That was just another trait his brother succeeded in while he failed miserably. So with a shake of his head, the male tried to correct his previous statement. "Ya shimmerin' just fine, as I hear Unicorns should often be. But I've met my share of unruly Uni's before, they coats matted with pride." He shrugged though, having found the strength of character admirable despite the tattered appearance. "And no, ya have nothing on your face." He nodded reassuringly to the other, casting her fear aside. His own eyes lit though to hear another speak of spirits, and he couldn't help but be held in pause. Crap....had he insulted the spirits of the ground beneath him? It was enough to cause insecurity in his expression. "I certainly hope so..."

"Oh you're one of those!" She announced suddenly as though the realisation had clicked and everything had fallen into place. It had all happened very quickly after his explanation, his quirk reassurance that she was alright as well as further musings over how he didn't mind the dirt. He hadn't meant it as any type of insult or underhand comment, instead he had meant it as a literal observation. He was one of the blunt types, she'd met a few of those a long time ago but it was testament to her lack of travel lately, that she hadn't caught on sooner. She had the decency to look sheepish at this and cleared her throat a little before offering another soft giggle - oh dear, what if she had offended him by taking offence?

The intricacies of conversation could be so complex, particularly for one out of practice. However, she took another breath to regather her composure and watched him closely as he continued to talk. Slowly but surely she was adjusting to his accent and with a little more time she wouldn't have cause for a delay in her responses. He seemed apologetic but he needn't be and she knew as much - now what she needed to do was lighten the mood again! That was what every good hostess aspired to do after all.

"Well, they don't call me Sparkles without good reason," she pointed out with a sage nod in reference to his 'shimmer' comment. She rather liked that compliment if she didn't say so herself, a first for her in a long while. "Mmm, that aside you aren't hurt right?" she continued. She was positive that the spirits would forgive him provided he hadn't hurt himself by doing something stupid, he'd had a near miss with that tree and frankly the grass spirits were tough mite given what they endured throughout the seasons even when you excluded the bad weather.

"Your legs looked a little shaky when you stopped..."

His brows set almost instantly in a narrowed point, and he cast his eyes to the other. "Ah? And pray tell what be one of 'those'?" Was she throwing stones in return, purposely? Sure, a small part of his logic deemed him deserving of it. But he was a male, and a troll to boot, so his logic was equally rivaled by his pride. Even by simple words......but they need not be competed with. His mother taught him better, especially in the presence of another mare. So, biting his tongue the male flipped the comment from his mind like a speck of dust.

Besides, if she could do it then so could he.

The edge of his mouth pulled back in a grin to her Sparkles comment. It did suit her features, and seemed befitting for a Uni individual. "Aye, then you have good reason." Iced eyes then turned down to his mentioned limbs. The shaking had lightened to a barely noticeable quiver, and his nerves felt nearly normal. Stubbornly, Jumanjii' gave a shrug. "No, not hurt just adjusting. I ne'er had to halt so abruptly before." Curiosity compelled him to lift one hoof up with a curve to peek at the underside of his foot. Torn shades of green were pasted there and the soquili couldn't help but frown at his act. Would he have time to clean his skid evidence before racing on to catch the storm? Can't insult one realm of spirits to appease another.....

Inhaling deeply, Jumanjii' glanced back and forth between the unicorn and the mountain range. Now then...how did one normally dismiss themselves pleasantly from company? Or at least distract them long enough from watching him clean up his earthen mess. >_>;

Uh oh...

Crossed wires struck again and it was Manji's turn to be insulted by her words. She supposed that from his standpoint they would have seemed a little offensive but she hadn't meant them as such. She was notorious for voicing her own thoughts, cooing over her own ideas even in the company of others. Classifying him as 'one of those' had been nothing more than her realisation that he was a particular type of soquili. Of course, how did you explain that to another without digging an even deeper hole for yourself? The obvious answer was to keep your mouth firmly shut in the first place but that wasn't exactly her strong point - a shame really, it would solve a lot of problems if she could (sometimes).

"Oh! No, no, no, no!" She announced and shook her head. "I just meant that I realised you are a very literal soquili," she explained in what she hoped was the best way possible. Her expression was kept light, her eyes warm to indicate she had no malice in them. Of course, it would be his decision as to how he read in to her behaviour and she subconciously coiled her tail tighter around her leg for comfort. "But so long as you're not hurt that's okay," she added in reference to his 'adjusting'. He was a proud creature too by the looks of things.

However, his desire to move was not at a loss on her and she offered another of her smiles. His continued glances towards the mountains were clear that despite his near head-on collision with a tree he had things to do and places to go. Why anyone would want to head into the rain was beyond her but she wasn't going to chatter inanely until he told her to shut up and stormed off in a huff... Even if some males looked really adorable when they did do that.

"Ehh..." She chuckled softly and gave a roll of her shoulders, "If you have somewhere to be then don't let me stop you...?" She offered.

"Best ye say so in the beginning, so not to leave one guessing." Jumanjii' flicked his ears alertly, as if to shrug off the earlier comment. Literal....well it was at least better than anything he would have guessed. An insult being the first and foremost expected. It was common enough between his siblings that he'd gone long assuming the same from others. Finally twitching the huffing pride to a manageable level, the stallion shrugged as his own response. "No, I'm holding upright just fine, thanks fir askin." His eyes trailed from his front leg to a light shifting just ahead. He had nearly forgotten the thin tail that belonged to Uni's, perplexed to find hers coiled so tight. Was that normal? "Nh?" He blinked at her question, and suddenly his senses renewed themselves. His nose could smell the moist air and his spine could almost feel the rainfall waiting for him.

"Oh, well 'ow bout I make it up to you? For assuming so wrongly of ye." He turned half from the pale Uni to nudge his chin in the mountain's direction. "Tag along if ya will? If not, let me know." And with that said, he lumbered back to the scarred earth, carefully trying to rearrange the grass to the skid marks.

He wanted to take her into the rain to make it up to her? There were just some thought processes she didn't understand, especially in stallions. Despite the number in which she had encountered they all seemed to have some strange quirk about them that didn't quite make sense. At the very least she could tell that this particular stallion wasn't one to pamper others which was a bit of a foreign concept for her. To this day all the stallions she'd met (save the one that tried to murder her) happened to be very gentle and considerate - it was ever so intriguing to meet one that had interest in other things...even if it did happen to be rain. What would possess anyone to chase after rain?

It made mud.

"Well," she flicked her ears a little in thought and shook her head. There was no point apologising again; she hadn't meant offence and had just happened to be unlucky this time round. At the very least she had cleared it up for him when she'd picked up on his unrest. What was important now happened to be whether or not she honestly wanted to follow him up onto the slopes. In a manner of speaking rain was very pleasant on it's own but the mud and the awkwardness of getting it off her coat was one of it's more undesirable features. Then again the direction it was heading in appeared to indicate it would arrive soon anyway, so why run away from it when you could just follow it?

Decisions, decisions!

"I'll go," She conceded at last with a smile, feigning ignorance to his attempt to patch up the grass beneath his hooves. "But I'm not great at rock climbing so you'll have to go a little slow for me, okay?"

It wasn't the easiest task pawing kindly at grass with such bulky hooves. Still Jumanjii' tried, bickering to himself under his breath at such an embarrassing act. No, there was no shame in picking up after himself...but to do so in a public eye? Stretching his muzzle into a frown, the stallion quickened his chore until there was no more dark soil in sight. There. The grass was flat and smoothed as it had looked before his arrival.

"Ah, so ye decided?" He turned his eyes from the ground to the other soquili, quirking a brow as she continued. Such an unexpected request spurred a chuckle from his throat. "Rock climbing? I hadn't planned to do so. But there will be plenty o' loose gravel where we treading. We'll pace slowly there, then." Pale eyes widened slightly though in a small revelation. "Wait, are ye...?" He huffed a light laugh. "Ye not worried of getting dirty, are ya? But that's the point of the rain, if I must say as encouragement. Just....let it wash those concerns away, alright?" Orange tail ends flicked across the ground, urging him to get on with his plans. Yes yes, he knew. Reining in some patience, the male nodded to Sparkles. "Whenever your set. And only if ye truly willing to tag along. Just....follow the storm clouds."

And giving a bidding smirk, he turned and marched towards the dark smudge in the sky. It wasn't a long tread at all, especially with the clouds crawling slowly forward to meet them halfway.

PostPosted: Mon May 25, 2009 1:25 pm

"Of course it's going to make me dirty!" Sparkles chirped and shook her head, seemingly bemused by his surprise. If she was honest she didn't like to end up filthy and she generally didn't have concerns to wash away but she tended to find a good soak in a lake worked out better than being battered by millions of tiny water pellets. However, the Soquili of the Kawani were all rather bonkers and she had long since come to terms with this - if she needed to get wet to socialise then she would do it. All that this meant was that she would need to dive bomb into the nearest hotspring she could find later to beautify herself again! It was a reasonable sacrifice to make...particularly in the face of such an opportunity.

Why was it always the wierd ones that intrigued her?

Placing her usual smile upon her lips she unfurled her tail from around her leg and moved towards him. While her steps were delicate he would be pleased to note the stride was long and consequently she wouldn't be holding him up too much. Admittedly she would get testy around the gravel regions but she would persevere and be rewarded with that lashing she wasn't thrilled with but hopefully an insight into the world of the wierd. Afterall, she didn't usually meet stallions who tidied up the grass underneath their hooves...nor had she ever met one who had nearly smashed head first into a tree though she suspected that may have been a very comical sight of the collision had occured.

"Mmmm, but the clouds don't appear to be moving so what's the hurry?"

"Ya more concerned with the chance of mud than the chance of lightn'?" The male shook his head, blinking at the odd twist of viewpoints. Maybe because he was a boy and that he grew up with tomboy-ish sisters that he didn't understand Sparkles logic. Pursing his lip to the side in quiet though, he turned a glance at the other. "Ye'll only get as dirty as you allow yourself then. I nay be asking you to slip and slide on the mucky ground. It even seems your tail will be able to stand the mud, with how it moves." He couldn't help the exasperation that tinted his eyes at how oddly flexible a tail could be. His own tail, on the other hoof, would tolerate it's lengthy trials.

Their walk continued at a leisurely pace, both hooves of different mass clicking soundly on the pebbled bald spots that decorated the plans. Jumanjii' deduced that the mare kept up so well by that fact that she was lighter and slimmer. Seemed even the pampered enjoyed a decent pace. Or maybe he was slowing up on the lessons of manners learned from his mother? He didn't pause to figure it out, and instead looked to the clouds above.

"Eh?" Ears flicked as the male considered the question. What was the rush, honestly? Shaking his head, Manjii' forced out some reasonable answer. "I've nothin' better to do. 'Sides, I enjoy the time I spend distracted by the elements. Does that bother you?" Were her legs growing sore, or her curiosity growing wider?
