Rook swam along the bottom of the deep end of the pool. He'd been feeling more and more strange lately, his stomach knotted up a lot and he had weird dreams that didn't make any sense filled with weird voices and things he'd never seen before. When swimmng or more accurately when deep underwater Rook found a bit of peace, moment where he could relax. Though the jewles embedded in his skin had been flashing bright red a lot lately and he swore it wasn't just becuase he was near something magic.
All of this lead to the boy spending more time swimming, trying to make sense of the chaos that was starting to make Rook jumpy and generally unhappy. Not to mention that his family seemed to know and were all acting strange around him now. All in all it made for an unhappy young boy.

The first family outing with the family, IE, with the cabbage, was to the pool. It was because the inside light was somewhat like sunshine and his dad thought his mom looked good in a bikini. Not that Chris ever mentioned this fact, but it was pretty obvious. Besides, his dad was right. His mom DID look good in a bikini.
Which would be vaguely disturbing for most teenagers, but Chris had always known his mom was a babe.
He, wearing his huge red swimming trunks, was busy wondering if chlorine would be bad for the cabbage if he put it on a floaty device. He stuck one gigantic leg into the water, followed by the tip of his tail as he finished blowing up the mattress.

Floaty things didn't generally end up int he deep end of the pool so when Rook spotted the outline of one on the surface of the water he decided to swim back up and investigate. " Christ?" It looked the boy from before at the daycare back when he was little , except well huge now. Not that the black skinned horned boy had been small then.
If it was Chris, Rook wondered what he was doing int he pool with a floating mattress and a cabbage? Had the other grown up to become a parent?

Chris blinked then grinned, placing the cabbage on the now inflated mattress thing and turning to Rook. "Looks like you've grown," he said. "Cool. How's it going, Rook?"
He slid into the water, displacing some of it so it sloshed onto the concrete around the pool. "This is my little sister," he added. "Carmel." Not that he was sure it was a girl, but he was hoping saying so would brainwash the cabbage into producing one.

Ahh, his sister well that was ok too, though Chris certainly looked big enough to be someone's parent. The unique dual voices of the bigger boy had changed as well getting deeper and a bit raspier. Chris had changed and yet stayed the same it was confusing but comforting to Rook at the same time.
" I'm good, I've been bigger for a while now. It's not as fun as I thought though" Rook admitted as he tread water. The boy's naturally rubbery grey skin was meant to be in the water and despite the chlorine and fading memories of Vox trying to drown him in their game he felt at home here.
"Carmel's a nice name" Also a type of candy if he remember right but it wasn't the strangest name he'd ever heard of.

"It's close enough to caramel that it makes me hungry," Chris admitted with amusement. "But hell, when am I not?" He didn't have to tread the water, his feet could touch if he stretched, but he did anyways, leaning back and keeping a finger on the floaty that carried the cabbage.
"It's just part of being a cabbage kid," Chris said. "Growing, that is. You get used to it and plan in advance. Like getting a really big bed."

" No, not like that but I'll tell my mom to start preparing anyways" he had grown suddenly certainly and that had been shocking but it was more the strange things that had happened since that upset Rook. Still, it was good advice to get ready for whenever he might next grow again with new things for his room and bigger clothes.
" Do you know then the cabbage will give you your sister?" His mother had had no clue when exactly he was supposed to appear and his cabbage had shown up at the store by accident. If Carmel wasn't an accidental baby maybe there was shedule or something they followed. Rook imagined it would certainly be helpful to know exactly when someone was supposed to be born.

"No clue," Chris said cheerfully. "She'll show up when she wants to show up, I figure. Dad told me I took forever to come out, but I figure it's because the thing was doing double duty making me."

Rook laughed at that, " Cabbage probably had a very hard time keeping you inside until you were all done." They were all as far as he knew bigger than the cabbages they came from and so the things were clearly capable of holding a lot but Rook imagined the dark skinned boy's must have been near bursting at it's seams.

"Probably," Chris admitted, kicking his tail ever so slightly. It was less effort than treading and worked just as well. "So you go to Liberty or somewhere else? You grew after I moved to the senior high, right?"

" I go to a special school run by some organization my mom is in" he understood them and what they stood for but he wasn't sure he agreed with it although he'd never say that to his mother. " I like school it;s normal and it might be the same every day but I like things that." Rook wrapped his own tail aroudn his waist as he continued to tread water, crimson eyes flicking between Chris and Carmel.

"Yeah?" Chris asked, keeping the cabbage close. He was overprotective of it, even he would admit it, but his parents didn't seem to mind. "Do you have trouble? You know, fitting in?"
It was probably a rude question to ask, but if anyone understood the "not fitting in" problem it was him.

Rook nodded feeling and odd kinship with the other boy " There was a girl, not at school though, I was helping her when she was lost and she wouldn't even hold my hand to help her across the street." There was a bit of pain in the boy's voice as he remembered the looks and tone of voice he'd received from iselda.
" They aren't all horrible at school but some are" and he swore some of his classmates rearranged things on his desk when he went to the bathroom and stuff just becuase they knew it bugged him. Not to mention those who'd purposefully brought things of magical nature near him to see the jewels embedded in his skin flash. It wasn't fun dealing with other students but school was a stability rook clung to nonetheless.

"That might not have been you, though," Chris said. "You ever see the TV show Monk? Some people don't like touching anything in fear of germs and sh--stuff." He wasn't too bothered by that kind of treatment, it was when old ladies brought out crosses to ward you off when things got irritating. Or people screamed and raced away. "You have any problems with doing things with your hands?"
He had all his fingers, but he could easily see his next stage being a pain in the a** when it came to writing or cracking eggs without shattering them just because of the size of his.

Germs? Didn't you only have germs if you were sick? Still, Rook liked the idea that maybe it wasn't all his fault that not everyone seemed to like him or was willing to be at least civil.
" Sometimes" he said as he nodded in response to the questions. he had less than the normal amount of finger and they alto seemed to be thicker in comparison to other people's much like his toes. " You get sort of used to it though and learn how you have to hold things" or that some things simply required the help of others. " I'd rather be me than normal" Truly for all the stresses Rook had that came from not looking like his mother or Andrea or even Bishop, the boy knew he wouldn't ever give it up.
