Weeelll, this was no fun. Jani was bored... as most of his siblings seemed to have wandered off somewhere for the afternoon. Now that they were all a bit older, they were allowed to go farther from the den, of course with the understanding that if they weren't back for meals, they didn't eat.
Usually Jani was back on time. Sometimes he wasn't but he didn't complain or bug the others to share, instead finding something to play with until time for bed.
Buuut enough about that! It wasn't even close to meal-time yet, and he wanted to do something. Like, with someone else. Besides the rocks and grass - as fun as they were to play with. Sniffing at the ground, he prowled about the den, wondering if anyone else was still around here...

Zana was curled up in the den dozing, she had gone out early in the morning alone as usual and had returned to catch some extra sleep. She was in a foul mood since she had failed to bring down anything larger then a rabbit on her own. Hunting should be easy, even if she wasn't very big yet, it annoyed her that the task was so difficult.
Hopefully with extra sleep, and a lack of food she would be encouraged to try harder. She hadn't even realized that her siblings weren't around, then again she spent more time alone or with mother then she did with any of the rest of her family. A part of her felt ashamed for being so introverted and a part of her reveled in how 'grown up' she was being by doing things all by herself.

Sniffing around the den, Jani picked up the scent of one of the others fairly quickly and followed it just inside, peering into the darkness. It didn't really occur to him that whoever was in here might be sleeping - after all, it was the middle of the day!
"Helloooo?" he called inside, his voice echoing off the walls and ceiling of the small cave-like den.

'Zana felt her eat p***k up and one ruby eye opened slowly, hmm it seemed one of her siblings was looking for someone. She slowly rose to her paws and gave a yawn while she stretched. Finally she slunk over and tilted her head.
"Oh 'Jani it's you...no one else is around." She added and sat down in front of her brother uncertain as to who he was searching for. Her black and white tail swished to and fro in a bored motion.

"Aw really?" Jani asked, padding inside and then sitting down with a plop in front of his sister. "Well, I'm bored!" he declared then, tail tip twitching back and forth.
"I got tired of playin' hide and seek with the grass. There's just too MUCH of it, y'know? So it's really easy for it find me." He pouted a bit, trying to look forlorn and sad in order to get sympathy.

She gave a wry smile at his expression, clearly he was trying to garner her sympathy...of course she loved her siblings so it was working. It would seem she would have to give up a little of her nap time to try and occupy her brother.
"Bored hmm? Why don't you go on a hunt..." Zana herself was quite tired of hunting practice, it was hardly fun if you failed to ever take down your prey and always came home hungry. She tilted her head in confusion at his words "what do you mean for it to find you? Wouldn't you need someone else to find you, and your green so hiding in the grass would be perfect?"

"Exactly!" Jani agreed with a quick nod, delighted that someone apparently understood. "It's too easy for the grass to find me, so it'd be better if someone else played~"
He tilted head then, and blinked a bit. "But if you wanna go hunt instead that's okay too! I wanna come along, though... trees an' stuff are usually good for tellin' me where rabbits are hiding!"

Zana was very confused for a long moment, she tilted her head and finally had to ask. "The trees tell you where the rabbits are?" Well now she had heard it all, apparently she wasn't the only one with an encouraging voice in her head. She wondered if she and her siblings were all special, or just crazy. She certainly didn't feel crazy and she doubted her dear brother was either.
If Jani said he could talk to grass and trees...well who was she to tell him he was wrong, maybe they just didn't want to talk with her? "Well...I'm a little tired of the hunt, maybe we could play a little hide and seek..." How long had it been since she'd relaxed and played? Too long.

"Uh huh!" Jani nodded enthusiastically at that, increasingly happy that she wasn't calling him crazy or something - as a lot of his other siglings usually did. Maybe he should play with Zana more often! "Though sometimes they're wrong..." he confessed with a little pout. "Cause I go where they tell me an' there's no rabbits there. Or maybe they just run away before I get there! I dunno..."
For a minute or two, the little juve slipped into a thoughtful pose, then he shook himself and focused his attention back on his sister. "Okay! Who gets to hide first?"

Zana smiled at her brother, it felt good to know something secret and special about him, well maybe not so secret, but she doubted the others believed him. Still she wasn't about to spill her own secret and tell him she heard a soft voice too, she didn't think it was trees either.
"I'll hide first, but don't listen to the grass, I'll just tell it to confuse you!" She laughed and raced off before her brother could get the chance to close his eyes, already she was trying to formulate where to hide. Her ruby eyes scanned the area and she grinned as she picked out the shape of a large boulder in the distance. Bingo!

Jani nodded quickly at that, then covered his face with his paws and started counting. He ended up skipping some numbers here and there, but eventually he got to one hundred - which was pretty standard for hide and seek, right? Then he popped his head up and looked around.
Now where, oh where... could his sister be hiding? Hmm...
Wandering over toward a little stand of trees, the green juvenile whispered, "Psst, did you see where Zana went?"

Yes games like this could be fun and useful as well, she had to stifle a giggle when she heard her brother ask the trees for her location. Still her laughter was easily contained as she strained to hear if he would get a sign an answer, something. If Jani had some connection to a strange...crazy voice then it might make hers seem a bit more sane.
Ha there she was throwing stones from a glass house, horrid. She could just imagine the concern on her mama and papa's face if she ever admitted to hearing voices, no not voices, just a voice. She shook her head and crouched lower behind the boulder focusing on the game at hand.

Jani tilted his head to the side for a moment, then pouted a little. "Aww... well, thanks anyway!" he said cheerfully. Continuing on his search, he poked his nose into the den for a moment but quickly determined that Zana wasn't there...
Then he got the bright idea to use his nose and try to scent which way she had gone. Grinning, he bounded back toward where they'd started and sniffed about. Ah ha! This way...

Goodness, had they responded? She wanted to poke her head out to see, but of course she knew that would be useless instead she remained low and quiet her ears pricked carefully.
So Jani was going to sniff her out hmm? Clever brother...but she was waiting, the boulder was big enough that when he got closer she could slowly move around it, and around and around and he would never see her! Ha!

Of course, Jani knew nothing of this plan of hers... and once he got to that boulder, he jumped around the side of it. "Found you!" he called out.
But he may not have found her at all, if she'd moved fast enough...
