i just saw a thing for transformers animated season 3 and Hotrod had a bow. wtf is there a stupider weapon to give a transformer They keep giving Arcee Bows but really what would a giant robot need a bow for when they could have a gun its one of those thing thats so stupid if you think about it to long it starts to hurt.
ok so:
Bad/Stupid weapons to give big robots Bows vs. Guns Why no animated transformer holds a gun in there hand shackwave the only transformers animated toy to hold a gun

I think they are trying to bring back the chivalry era and unpromote guns since now kids are bringing them to school. At least a knife you watch your enemy die slowly. twisted

For the same reason they gave frigging Chewbacca a crossbow. It looks cool.
And General Custer learned the hard way not to underestimate the bow and arrow. 3nodding
(( And seriously, Firefox, Chewbacca isn't in your spellchecker dictionary? stare ))

The bow can do things a blaster cannot . . . recall what happened to Spittor. Rather than just damaging his tendrils, the bow's bolts pinned two of them to the ground. The pain and immobilization make the bow worth it. Also, there is that intimidation factor. The bow is recognizable and can give a psychological aspect to his attack.
As for using a sword, I thought about this one time. When energy weapons become standard, the defense from them starts to be as well. Energy absorption and deflection to soften the blow from blaster fire and such. A blade, however, has the physical aspect to it that energy deflection just can't do much about.

I imagine part of it is because Animated is a kids show.
The Rest of it is just rule of cool like Ultra Magnus having a Thor Shout out for a weapon.
I enjoyed seeing Rodimus Prime's cameo (Rodimus was always one of my G1 favorites) but now I"m going to be stuck wondering if he lived or died.
I mean sure it's a kids show so actual confirmed death isn't likely but they could always just not show him again.

The creators of TFA wanted to stress the point that the Autobots were not warriors to begin with, thus they had to rely on tools and meele weapons while the Decepticons were armed to the teeth. Though personally, I would have liked to see Rodimus with his saw blade.
