The green cheetah cub, Pilate, was looking healthier these days. She was no longer hungry like she had been on her own. Lady luck had been looking out for her, that was for sure.
Now instead of wandering the plains of Africa aimlessly with no where to go at night, Pilate wandered with a destination at the end of her day. She was proud of her home and her sister. She didn't always wander off far from home, but today she wanted to find a present for her sister. Maybe kill and bring home dinner to her or find a pretty flower or rock. Something special and not anything would due.
The little streak of green's head popped up out of the tall grass. She looked this way and that way and popped back down into the grass. She would find something. Anything. Even if it took all day, the cub would find the perfect gift.

A'kigeni was, as his mother often put it "at it again". She had never seemed to understand him, and neither did his siblings really. But he was a scientist, or at least he was certain he would be. And at the moment, he was conducting an experiment... which came in the form of doing an autopsy on a week-old-dead-hare he had found in the jungle.
He sharpened his claws and held them up, "And now... we begin." He sliced it open and peered inside thoughtfully, scratching his head, "Wow... weird." Was all he managed to say. He had come up with the idea to do this while he and his parents had been eating. Who would have thought there could be so much inside of something? Well, when people weren't eating it. And this one was partially decaying too... "Oh well, I'll make due." Though he would have liked an assistant. That would have made his young life so much easier.
He didn't seem to notice the cheetah as she approached.

A rancid stench reached the cheetah's nostrils causing her to make a face. It hadn't been long ago that smell had meant dinner was near by. Now that she had a home, however, it meant what ever made that smell meant it needed to be covered up with sand. A lot of sand.
Pilate took off to investigate the orgins of this god awful smell only to find a ... well she wasn't quite sure what it was really. The cheetah took a few silent steps towards the small cat like thing that was neither lion nor cheetah.
"What are you doing with that dead hare?" The question 'and what are you' almost flew out of her maw but didn't. Pilate was a curious cub but she also had some form of manners. Perhaps she could trick it out of him some how. Maybe.

A'kigeni looked up in shock and spotted the cheetah. He hadn't really noticed the smell, but then again he never did. Part of the problem his mother had with his 'bad attitude', he expected. He didn't mean to act that way. He just had to... know things. It was his way. He obeyed everything else his parents told him to do at the very least.
"I'm looking inside it. Trying to figure out how it works." He tried to explain to the girl, hoping that she wouldn't be frightened away or disgusted like his mother always had been. But his mother loved him so much, she never wanted to let him go sometimes... she hated to be alone. And he hated to dissapoint her.
"I'm sorry..." He said, looking immeditaly dejected, "It's gross isn't it?" It was, he knew that. But he just had to know, and sometimes it felt like there were little barbs in his brain poking him to go and find out. He just had to know. "I'm sorry. I'll stop."

"Nah, I used to eat food like that. It just... smells really really really bad," She wanted to frown at him but something about the boy prevented that. Though the smell made her gag, she smiled.
"Names Pilate, may I inquire about yours?" The cheetah wanted to add, what are you, it pulsed in the back of her tongue but she resisted and smiled. The rancid stench was so thick around her, that her pink eyes clouded with tears. She blinked and a single tear rolled down her cheek.
Maybe the other didn't notice, maybe he did. At this moment Pilate just wanted to vomit.

"Ah... I didn't notice." A'kigeni admitted looking down at his project, "I guess I'm just kind of getting used to it. I don't know... I'm sorry if you don't like it. I didn't mean to do that. It just kind of... smells." He said with a helpless shrug. He really couldn't do a thing about it.
"Pilate... nice name." A'kigeni told her, smiling, "I'm A'kigeni... you can call me Geni... or A'k if you like. Everyone seems to call me something different." He didn't mind what they called him. But then he saw her crying and stepped forward, "Are you okay? You look so sad..." He told her, wondering why she had tears in her eyes.
He didn't like it when others were sad. He didn't want that kind of thing to happen. Sadness just seemed so... wrong. Of course he had no idea that it actually came from the smell.

A smile curled round her maw as the other showed he was concerned about her well being.
"No no, its the fumes... It stings my eyes and makes them water," She laughed, "It never used to before." It was true, a while back she'd have been happily feasting on the rotting remains of the rabbit with no complaints. With her new living style a lot of her old habits seemed to be deserting her.
"I like Geni," the words came out soft, "It's nice." Pilate wiped the tear away from her face. "Thank you..." The fact that the cub had showed concern for her had brightened her day. The smell even seemed to lessen a little. Not much though, it still smelled to high heavens.

"Oh... that'd sad. I'm sorry that they're like that. We can move away if you like?" A'kigeni didn't really want to leave his find... but he didn't want to make anyone upset because of it. That was the whole reason he did his experiments away from home, so that his parents wouldn't have to deal with them. The last thing he wanted to do was get on someone's nerves.
Then he looked over Pilate, pausing for a moment. He had never seen something that looked like her before. "Exuse me for asking Pilate... but um... what are you?" He asked, tilting his head. He was pretty sure she wasn't a lion... but she wasn't a leopard either. So what did that make her?

Pilate laughed but didn't judge. She her self had never meet one of her kind and she was a cheetah. Lion's seemed to be the only thing she'd run into on her vast travels. And now standing before her was an unknown creature she had never seen before as well. The laughter took her mind off of the eye watering thick scent of decay.
"Oh, " She giggled again softly, " Ohhh, I'm a cheetah and its a pleasure to be the first you've meet," This was rich. Her chance to ask and she very well did, "What are you if I may ask?" The fact that the rabbit cadaver rotted and stunk up the area was now not important as to what the heck this cat like creature was.
She didn't feel bad not knowing what he was now either. Both were guilty of the crime and she was glad he had asked first. Thank god.

A'kigeni seemed pleased that she'd answered his question so honestly. Normally creatures seemed to get so touchy about that kind of thing... he wished that they'd all just relax. It would have made his life so much easier. Especially from his mother.
"A cheetah? Interesting..." He said, drifting off for a moment before he came back down to earth, "And oh... I'm a leopard." He said, pointing at himself for emphasis and nodding his head, "We're well known for our tree climbing. Or so my mother tells me."
His mother did love to tell him stories about her and his father's travels together. He loved her stories, because they all made life so exciting. And A'kigeni didn't really intend to have an exciting life... unless it was a life of science, that was.

"Tree climbing.." Pilate muttered to her self. She remembered a time she tried to climb a tree and failed. Cheetahs weren't meant for tree climbing that was for sure.
"Cheetahs are really fast," The cub began, "We are as fast or faster then some of the hooved creatures around." Her chest puffed out proudly as she went on about how fast a cheetah was. Some of it was a little far fetched but a young cub telling such stories tended to stretch the truth some.
The cub blinked and stared at the leopard half way through a sentence. He had green on him like she did. That was ... odd. Why hadn't she realized that before.

A'kigeni nodded, "Yep, tree climbing." He had already proven to be pretty good at climbing trees, or at least he thought so. Not so much with the trunks, but as soon as he got up into the branches he always did a pretty spiffy job of staying up and getting down.
"Really fast... ah, yes..." He said, looking at her long legs and seeing how she would be built for running, while he was more-or-less built strictly for climbing purposes. He was... well, he wasn't the fastest leopard out there, truth be told. But he had never had to run from anything.
Then he stared at her, noticing that she wasn't actually paying any attention to him anymore. What was she looking at? Had he done something strange? Well... stranger than he had done already.

"Are Cheeahs and Leopards the same?" She had meet another cheetah before that was not green but still she thought of cheetahs as green. Green was a color she hadnt come across on another creature before beside her self.
"Umm, I mean.. we are both green? Are we related?"

"I don't think so." A'k admitted thoughtfully. His mother had told him that leopards were their own species. That they should eat creatures who weren't leopards. He didn't really want to eat Pilate though. He kind of liked her. "I mean... we're both green... but I don't think it's colors that make who we are... I think it's how we're built?"
He tilted his head, "I'm not entirely sure how it works though. That's part of what I'm trying to figure out." He admitted, "I want to try and figure out what the differences are between every different species."

The cheetah girl smiled, "Then how about I help you?" Pilate was sharpening her hunting skills. She couldn't take down big prey but was really good at catching birds and small mammals, and if times called for it, reptiles.
"The two of us can figure out what makes these creatures so delicious." Again , Pilates tummy seemed to rule her mind a little to much for her own good.
