She lay amongst the grass with her seer-rock placed between her forepaws. It was a little dusty from her lope across the savannah so she was spending a little time cleaning it with her paws. It wasn't especially beautiful but to Aryiola it was everything. It was clear as glass - it probably was glass - and wasn't smooth or polished. Instead it was rough, jagged and held many facets and layers. Sometimes, if the light caught it just so, the jewel would throw rainbows across the ground. When that happened Aryiola knew it was magic.
And like the rock, she was crafting herself to be magic, too. She wanted to see the future as bright and crisp as the jewel saw it. She wanted to receive gifts (among other things) to tell these futures that she saw.
She wanted to be a teller of fortunes - or misfortunes - and make a name for herself. Live up to her half-immortal blood. For she knew, by peering into her mother's past, that her father was a God and that a brief pairing between them had produced three cubs - including herself.
She finished cleaning it and took a moment to peer inside. For now there was nothing. No pictures. No colours, only the sandy ground beneath it.
Aryiola sighed deeply. I was getting dark and she knew if she didn't start heading home now she wouldn't arrive until after sundown and her mother would give her another lecture about the dangers of the night. But she didn't want to go home yet...not just yet...
--
Suijin had found himself wandering, somthing he did often, as he carefully crafted his next move. He had to be careful, after all life was like a chess game. One wrong move and everything could fall apart around him. He always had to be thinking one step of his opponent, even if his opponent was someone he had just met. Yes. The dual-colored male was always calculating, always planning something. It was no wonder that he always seemed to win even when other's thought he had lost.
That was the life of the sadistic male.
Always manipulating others into doing what he wanted. And a good life it was.
A yawn rolled off of his lips as he continued to walk forward, almost lost in thought, when something caught his eye. It was a young female. How interesting. "Hello!" He called his thoughts already gearing into action.
--
She looked up lazily, trying to hide her delight at being discovered by someone who wasn't a member of her family. That meant she could delay at getting home and just tell her mother that she'd stopped to help some unfortunate lion in need. However, this lion didn't seem unfortunate or that he needed any help. Oh well, her mother would believe her. She always did. Silly female, she had too much trust and faith in her children. It almost made her feel guilty, but she forced the feeling away. Her mother would just have to come to terms with the fact that the world isn't all beautiful and perfect. Except...if she hadn't learnt that by now, maybe she never would.
"Greetings." She called softly, not bothering to get up. Perhaps she should have felt threatened, maybe stepped back and given him room. He was, after all, a fully grown male and she was a female new to her adolescence. But she had confidence - a lot of confidence - and she had never felt threatened by anyone before. Until someone gave her real reason to be afraid, it was doubtful she would ever change.
She smiled. "Lonely, are we? If you're looking for company, you may have found it here. I am certainly in no rush." Her eyes gleamed.
--
A smirk spread across his lips as she greeted him warmly. Perhaps he had found exactly what he needed. "Not quite my dear." He wasn't lonely persay. Perhaps just...well bored? He needed something to entertain him, to help him get his 'creative' juices flowing. "But perhaps a bit of 'entertainment' if you can provide me with some." He told her as he stepped closer to her. His water-blue eyes studied the adol's form with interest. Maybe he would get just what he needed from this pretty girl.
"Now does a pretty girl like you have a name?"
The male knew exactly how to act when needed. He could be quite the charmer. There were many sides to him. If charming her didn't work, well he would manipulate her anyway.
--
She puffed out her chest a little. So, was this the type of lion her mother had called a gentleman? Someone who knew how to treat a lady with respect. The complete opposite of what her father had been...maybe? She looked up at him through her eyelashes and smiled. Yes, she thought she was grown up. She thought she was capable of taking care of herself, but sadly this was far from the truth. She knew little of males, knew little of the manipulative streaks some might have. She would come to learn of this someday, but not yet.
"Entertainment?" She blinked and eyed him curiously. "I have some talents that may entertain you, but my talents come with a price, I'm afraid. Perhaps you can entertain me, somehow, too? Since it doesn't look like you carry any pretty trinkets."
"Yes. My name is Aryiola." She blinked. "Fortune-teller of these lands." She indicated the jewel settled between her paws, then looked up at him again. "How about you, do you have a name?"
--
"I have many a talents too my dear." He purred closing the distance between them to only a few feet. "Do you have any specific way you wished to be entertained dear?" He asked arching a cool brow as he tilted his head just the slightest bit. He let his smirk soften as he waited to let her possibly evaluate him. Yes, Suijin already had a plan and was putting it into action as they were speaking. He would listen to what she wanted and then twist it so it was something he wanted. At least that was what his plan was.
"Aryiola? A pretty name for a pretty lady." He told her with a grin his ears perking up at the mention of fortune-telling. "Do you mean to say that you are a seer?" Oh how he envied the power of those who could see the future. It was something he had always wished he had been able to do, but alas it was one thing he had never been gifted with. "Ah, how rude of me. My name is Suijin." He told her with a bow of his head.
--
"I'm sure you do." She replied, gazing up at him with curiosity. She was a silly shild, so trusting, fancying that her skills and beauty were enough to keep her in control. She had no idea that anyone could use her in the same way she attempted to do so. "Perhaps I do. Perhaps I don't." She shifted on the grass slightly and looked down at the seer-rock lying there, waiting to be of use.
"Thank you." She purred quietly. "Yes. A seer, that's what my Aunt called me. A daughter born through the mixing of mortal and immortal blood." She smiled softly and looked up again. "But yes, we can see the past, the present and the future. But why dabble in events that can no longer be changed? Why look into the present when we are already living in it? My love is in the future, so that is where my speciality lies."
She gestured for him to move closer. "Suijin. I like that." She purred, flicking her tail. "If you wish to know a piece of your future, I'd be glad to give it to you." She paused for a moment. "And in return, I'd be glad of your company for a few hours. Yes. That sounds like a fine deal to me. Do you accept? Not all like to have their fortunes told. Many have turned me down and fled in fear. Some don't believe in fate. But do you, Suijin?"
--
As she clarified her abilities he grinned. Perfect. She was exactly what he was looking for. "You happen to be the child of a god? Are you very special my dear?" He asked her feigning sincerity with ease. "The future is what I seek answers for, if you care to share them with me." He told her glancing at the rock at her paws. It was an interesting thing to look at. He wondered what it was for.
"I am glad that my name is pleasing to you Aryiola." He replied smirking once more. His meeting with this female was very different from his meeting with Horowai. This girl easily fell into his paws. Excellent. "I would be honored to spend more time with you." Of course the question was, what kind of company? "Fate is what guides me"
--
She smiled. "Well, what a coincidence this is. Perhaps fate drew us together, don't you think? You have need for knowledge of the future and I can give you that." She smiled. "Well, Suijin, if you are ready, I will begin. All I need is a little focus and focus comes easy with the aid of the seer-rock. It channels magic, or so I believe, and helps make pictures of the future clear and sharp."
She rolled the rock beneath a paw and settled it just ahead of her. She lowered her eyes so they were level with it's shining surface and drew in a deep breath.
"Is there something in particular you would like to know? Or shall I reach into the void and pluck something at random?"

"Perhas our destinies are intertwined?" He suggested with the arch of a brow. How amusing would that be? A seer and a manipulative a**. "I am ready whenever you are love." He replied taking a seat before her peering down at the rock as if he too could see what would come. "There's a female and her brother that I have been at odds with for a while," he paused thinking about the brightly colored siblings. "I wish to know of anything that might come regarding me and the female." He suspected there would be some conflict for him in the future, there was little doubt about that. He at least wanted some kind of knowledge of what to expect.
"You may also pull something randmon if you would like."
--
"Not a bad idea, at all." She thrummed and with a purr at her throat she returned her focus to the seer-rock, watching how the light caught its many facets, how it shimmered and reflected, how it brought the images of the future to her mind. And as she peered into the unknown depths of the jewel at her paws, she listened to him. The words repeated in her own mind, again and again, as if imprinting them on the surface of the rock with her eyes.
And then, suddenly, the images appeared. Her eyes widened very slightly and around her - the real world - became nothing more than a shadow. The rock before her seemed to glow as the moon does and now, inside its being, was a scene painted out before her.
There was a fight. No...not one fight. Two....three? Yes, three fights, she was sure of it. They were different, all of them in some way. She drew closer, pulling the images into her mind. She felt, oddly, as if she were with him now, watching these scenes as if they were happening there and then, instead of in the future.
She had been holding her breath, and as the outcomes of the fights relayed to her, she released it, haggard and weary. She drew back from the image a little but - perhaps it was because of curiosity - she peered again. The fighting was gone like a light and in its place was a child. A child with a face like Suijin's own. In fact she might have mistaken the image as a picture of his past if the cub had not been a girl. She was moving through trees, away from a den. Her home perhaps? And she was calling one word again and again. There was no sound, but Aryiola could clearly tell what the word she mouthed was.
Father.
She blinked and the image was gone. She returned to the real world and peeked up, staring up into this lion's face. He had given her the most amazing reading yet! Perhaps her powers were just getting stronger? Or maybe this lion had a 'better than average' future ahead.
She pulled herself up into a shaky sit and spoke. "Well, Suijin. You have quite a future ahead of you. Many things I saw, some not so well, others better. Are you sure you wish to hear them?"
--
He watched with interest how her attention went straight to her rock and how everything seemed to disappear. When she said nothing in return he knew that she had found his future and perhaps, engrossed. The thought made him smirk as he continued to observe her.
Finally she pulled free of her future seeking and he listened interested immediately. He found himself frowning slightly at her words. What kind of not good? Now he was definitely interested. "Tell me everything."
He had to know.
--
She smiled. A curious creature he was, but strong and brave to answer so readily when he had been pre-warned that he wouldn't like some of what she had to say. She admired that and her admiration glittered in her eyes as she looked at him.
She reached out and pulled the jewel to her, hugging it against her chest as if holding a dear and treasured cub. Then, with a small smile, she nodded and opened her mouth to speak. "First the bad." She paused for effect then settled easily into the description. "In your future there will be three fights. Three different fights. I am certain of this. Of these three you will lose two of them. I could not tell which, the images came too fast. But I think the fact you lose two of them will be enough." She gave it time to settle in before continuing with the next part.
"Something better, perhaps, came next. I saw a cub. A female. Young, possibly entering her juvenile stage. She shared your face. She was your daughter, I am certain. She called out a word, again and again. She was calling for you. I think, this daughter, searches for her sire." She wondered who the mother was, wondered if Suijin had even known he was a father or if he'd met the cubs before. She thought it unlikely and though she wanted to ask, she didn't think she'd get any answers.
"And one last thing." She smiled. "In the very near future, I saw you spending a few hours of your time with a grey female with green eyes. A thank you for her services this day."
She smiled prettily.
--
He nodded, so the first would be the bad news. Very well, better to hear that part first. However he was surprised to hear the manner of which the news was bad. His mouth opened slightly and he shook his head. Three fights but he would lose two of them? Impossible! He never lost! He clenched his teeth together and his eyes narrowed at the thought.
Suijin didn't lose, he always won.
He wondered if he could change the outcome of the fights, perhaps. With that thought the smirk returned to his lips as he prepared for the 'better' news. "So they are curious then?" He mumbled more to himself than to her thinking of how Horowai wanted her children to have nothing to do with him. Yet there was one that looked like him. She must be going through hell everytime she looked at the girl. "Perfect." That was definitely news he enjoyed.
"Do you now? Then I mustn't argue with the pretty seer now should I?" He asked sliding towards her with his smiles upon his lips.
--
She watched his expression, watched how it changed, watched how it shifted from one to the other. He had drawn her interest completely. He had many secrets, this lion, many cupboards with locked doors. She wanted to peer into them, but knew she could not.
Seeing that he was clearly done with thinking about what she had told him, she stood and nodded, stepping towards himm lightly. "Arguing would be a terrible thing." She agreed with a purr. "Come, Suijin, let me show you the way."
She paused, lifted the jewel in her jaws and started off towards the little glade she used as a hideout to escape from all the irritating people in her life.
--
"Why yes, yes it would." He agreed knowing he had easily captured her attention. After the day was done and he went on about his business he knew she would stay in his thoughts and he would easily return to seek her knowledge and even just her company. He'd keep her trapped, so to speak.
"As you wish my lady."
He replied trotting after her his thoughts still bouncing back and forth between the knowledge she had given him. There was so much scheming to do. So much he had to plan for. How fun.
