I was in Motk and they uploaded the same demo as in the Megaupload file, but with the .dll file inside already. Thought that was before their Touhou12 discussion went auto-close, so I don't know if it would still be avaiable now. Oh, here they were, they posted them on the new thread too: RapidshareMegauploadedit: UFO's + -Mickey -Eggplant and... -BROFIST!!!! this game is epic!

Well, actually, it's a karakasa, not an eggplant. I love karakasas so the stage two boss is now my favorite character ever (aside from like Yuyuko and Youmu.) Plus she has heterochromia. Kogasa Tatara. I've got to remember her name if nobody else's. Oh yeah and her official profile is major lulz. Quote: Stage 2 boss The Cheery Forgotten Umbrella Kogasa TataraRace: karakasa ghost Ability: power to surprise humans An umbrella that was left unused and became a ghost. She was originally an umbrella that someone forgot, but since other umbrellas like her were being sold at a discount, nobody ever picked her up, and she was carried off by the wind and became a youkai. She never really hurts anyone, she just likes watching people be surprised. However, not many people have been surprised by her, so she's watching classic ghost stories to improve her technique.

Well, I wouldn't pick up an umbrella that resembles an eggplant either...
And Karakasas ought to be a few of the most famous youkais ever. I've seen countless references to the umbrellas everywhere, since god knows when. Even some enemies in Kirby were karakasa.

HECK YES KIRBY IS THE BEST VIDEO GAME SERIES EVER
well okay kirby or touhou i'll let you have your pick
point is kirby is awesome
Yeah, one of the Mid-Bosses in Kirby's Dreamland 2/3 was a Karakasa named Jumpershoot, and grants the Parasol ability, obviously. Oh yeah and one of the evolving items is a karakasa (Furugasa). I love karakasas. They're just cool.
I think I am going to turn my avatar into Kogasa. Maybe. Probably my mule.
Oh yeah and we're seeing a lot more non-human looking things from ZUN this time around. UFOs, Kogasa's umbrella, Unzan, yeah. His art actually seems to be pretty decent when it comes to drawing monster-like things.

I do know what a karakasa is. I was first introduced to them in 'Pocky & Rocky' to the Super Nintendo. (Good times.) But what makes Kogasa's karakasa look like an eggplant is not just the color, it's the top of it. That's not what the top of a "normal" karakasa usually looks like. So it's no wonder that there already a bunch of fanart making fun of the poor thing, calling it an eggplant.

This was enjoyable, I just hope that Sanae's off-center hitbox is fixed in the final game. I like the transition back to the old style of patterns with the random aimed spread mixed with calculated patterns. The UFO system seems a bit tacked-on. The game doesn't need something like that and it distracts me more than actually being a new dimension of gameplay. I'd rather see the return of the cherry shield from PCB. Particularly since losing a life means losing what power you had toward the next level and one power level.

I don't mind the UFO's nor do I think that a distracting element is all that bad in the game.
What I really dislike is how heavily dying in this game is penalized...
Beating bosses on 1 power is very... amusing... gonk

The game is actually a lot easier if you go after the red UFOs only. Don't be shy about bombing either (unless you're trying to capture a spellcard). Use all your bombs first before you die, because two automatically come included free with each life! It's still a really hard game, but going after red UFOs only really lessens the pain somewhat.

So I figured out how you can cheat on capturing spellcards using Sanae B.
Sanae B's bomb (the "Frog Nuke") is special because it has like a three second charge time (I think it's three seconds, I dunno exactly because my comp lags too much.) During that time, you're invincible. The actual attack doesn't launch until a few seconds later. So what you need to do is activate the bomb before the boss declares a spellcard (possibly during an attack, like, when her health is almost gone.) If you activate during an attack, focus fire and finish her off BEFORE the bomb goes off. If you do it right, the boss should have begun her spellcard attack, and then the bomb explodes and damages her, giving you a much smaller and easier to deal with health bar. HOWEVER, because you activated the bomb during the attack and not during the actual spellcard, you'll still be able to capture the spellcard given that you don't die or bomb again.
It actually does work, by the way - I discovered it quite by accident and used it to capture Ichirin's final spellcard on Normal. I don't know if it works on anybody else, doubt it works on Reimu or Marisa, and I still have no idea how Sanae A's bomb works. Unfortunately if you want to do this a lot this means you'll have to grab red UFOs only and commit suicide on normal attack patterns to get two more bombs or simply go for the green UFOs only. Meh. Oh well.

Oh well. Lol, congrats on doing it! I knew this already, since day three of the demo being out, mostly because I lurk that place full of "Damsels of the nicely shaped colorful lenses". They're damn good at touhou, and they were doing "Bomb troughs" with Sanae B for ages. But hey! You found about it on your own! That's way more than I can say so for myself!
