Well since I'm 3K miles away from my gear, I'll just tell you what technique/skill I WAS working on.
I was working on 6 string runs (scales and crap like that..), phantom slides, and I was combining some exersises which included string skipping, hammeron&pull offs using wide stretches and I threw in some right handed tapping. but with the right handed tapping I'll use the same hand to slide back and forth. Anyone know the name of that technique???????
For example:
...........h.....h........T p.......T p....*T----------p.....p.....p.....sl eI--12/15/17-20/17-20/17-20/22/20/17/15/12/15
*use right middle finger to tap and slide back and forth from the 20th/22nd frets. TIP: when you do the tap/slide you kinda have to do it hard and fast because you'll lose the vibration in the string if you don't.
It's challenging to make this sound clear and clean and play it fast. ESPECIALLY on a clean channel.
Sorry for the periods;it was the only way I could make it line up.

A helping technique for tap-slides is to tap with the nail of your tapping finger. Makes the slide a lot easier.

Soulless: I meant I'm literally 3,000 miles from my gear. I live in Portland, OR and I am in Boston, MA right now til May. But as far as my gear I use an LTD DV8-R (SD LiveWires), and a Spider II 212. I'll be buying the Spider Valve 212 once I get back.
Slappy: This is true. Downfall is I can never keep any amount of nail on my hands because if they get even a little too long they break when I grip the barbells in the gym. :/ I've noticed that as long as I do the tap/slide quickly and deliberately I can pull it off with out any problems. Its when I hesitate that it dies on me half way thru. I tried to do it by using the pick instead of my finger, but it doesn't sound as organic as when I do it with my finger.
BTW I learned of this technique from Gus G. (of Firewind), can't remember which media source it was, but just giving credit where its due.

I read it out of GuitarWorld. I can't remember what issue it was off the top of my head, but if you have a subscription you might want to just start thumbing through them. If not I'll check what issue it was when I get back home in May. Assuming I remember. haha

This is what I think he's talking aboutStarting at 3:19. anyways... i'm working on tapping, and cleaning up my sweeps. Mainly odd sweeps, like sus2 sweeps and 7th sweeps. And quick tapping runs in the style of Michael Romeo.

Yes. Good example. It was brief, but you get the idea. Thanks Absolute.

Currently learning Rush Mystic Rhythms and Pink Floyd Run like Hell.
I'm starting to stray away from metal and appreciate more progressive rock music.
Devin Townsend still has me interesting in metal though. 3nodding
