At the insistance of the family's matriarch, Quilt was not to keep Magda cooped up at home. The pale-haired man was not interested in bringing her to the mall yet again, and the museum had no new exhibit to interest him or his charge.
And so he found himself pushing the pram towards the park. He was more comfortable in the outdoors than within the confines of a building.
Magda, on the other hand, was loathe to be outside. On her home planet she had spent countless hours inside in air conditioned quarters or sterile environments. Food-preferences notwithstanding, she preferred the artificial to the organic.
Needless to say she was not in the best of moods. "Iun li' yu!" she growled to Quilt as he wheeled her towards the playground area of the park.

For all that she was convinced she was dead and in hell, Rosie was astonished how little punishment there was and how nice the devils seemed to be. Her very own devil had even brought her a nice cold sweet thing apparently made of mud and rock chips. The worst punishment in this oddly bright and plant-ridden hell was an unpleasant pain in her head when she ate the Cold Sweet too fast.
"Don't eat your ice cream so fast, Bones, you'll choke," Hisoka chided patiently, wiping melted Double Fudge Chocolate Chip off Rosie's face. The baby was still a little knot of tears and anxiety, but she did seem a little bit calmer today. At least she wasn't screaming in misery whenever Hisoka so much as looked at her, anyway.

"I don't understand why you're in such an unpleasant disposition," Quilt cocked his head at the sour expression on the carrot-haired baby's face, "It's a lovely day and look, there are even other children for you to make friends with."
He gestured to the various children playing on swings, see-saws, and those who were with their parents or guardians.
Magda seemed even less interested at the prospect of making friends with real infants. Bad enough she lost her verbal articulation, did her mental capacity have to be compromised as well? Gray eyes studied her options while scowling, until she saw an infant eating something that was reminiscent of a dessert back home.
She gurgled and pointed at the adult with a baby whose appendages were exposed bone. "Dat! Dat! Want dat!" she declared, indicating more to the ice cream than the individuals.
Quilt misunderstood. The pram was pushed towards them, a friendly smile on the guardian's face, "Hello there," he greets.

Hisoka looked up, squinting in the sunlight. Ah, man with baby.
"Howdy," she said amiably, gesturing for him to sit beside them. "Come on over."
Rosie stared at Firehair Devil and her companion warily. Neither seemed very threatening, really.
"Naavah," Rosie ventured politely to Firehair Devil, reaching out cautiously with a fleshless hand. "Esssht ya gu-hhuh."
She flushed slightly darker purple as she stumbled over her words, but somehow she doubted it mattered. None of the devils here spoke one word of Azhumnian.

Quilt nodded in thanks, "Thank you."
He sat down and lowered the pram's top to give Magda an unobstructed 360 degree view. With that done, Quilt realized now came his awful, awkward attempt at small talk. "Lovely weather we're having."
Magda could care less what the other infant was trying to say, as far as she was concerned she wanted to know whether or not the ice cream was what she thought it was.
A chubby, fleshy finger pointed directly at the cone, "Wat dat?" she asked of both the infant and the older woman.

Hisoka blinked. Oh god, small talk.
"Yep," she said. She picked at a grass blade, twisting it in her fingers. "So how 'bout that local sports team."
Rosie jolted when Firehair Devil pointed at her. Was it demanding her flesh as a sacrifice? No, no....oh! It wanted her Cold Sweet!
"Buh," she said. "Buhbuh."
Clearly.

Quilt smiled wryly, "I'm afraid I don't follow the local sports team. I'd rather be a player than an observer."
Well, that was no help, Magda decided. She didn't understand what the other baby said and if neither her guardian nor the female's would tell her what it was she would have to learn on her own.
Knowledge always came at a price. If it was unedible she could always spit it out at Quilt. She leaned forward in her pram as far as she could, small hands balancing on the edges. She stuck her tongue, as if making a rude face.
Then said tongue severed from the rest of her mouth and floated towards the ice cream cone to take a lick.

"Good, neither do I," Hisoka said with a laugh. "Awkward first conversations are always fun, aren't they?"
Rosie gaped. Firehead Devil had thrown its tongue at her!
"Nuh," she said, surprised at the firmness in her own voice as she held the Cold Sweet out of reach. She awkwardly batted the tongue away, like one would swat at a fly.

Quilt was visibly relieved that the woman had a sense of humor. "To a certain degree I suppose." He chuckled.
Magda made a face when her tongue tasted the other infant's bony appendage. The tongue immediately flew back, merging with the stub seamlessly and returning to the safety of her mouth. She stuck out her lower lip at the other baby, she wasn't planning on eating the whole thing. Just a lick or two or five if it were tasty.
Bi-colored eyes widened when Quilt spied what his charge had done.
"Magda! Don't do that, you know better!" his tone would be considered harsh if he really were speaking to an infant.

"Well, that's why it's a make-or-break situation when you first meet someone," Hisoka said sagely. "If you can go at least five minutes without lapsing into uncomfortable silence, you know you're onto something."
Rosie flinched when Firehead Devil's friend started yelling. Had she made a mistake? She should've let the tongue take a sample. To avoid trouble, she very politely threw her ice cream at Firehead. Sharing was caring, right?
"Vuh."

Magda had not expected the ice cream to be thrown at her. The cold treat hit her on the face just a few inches above her mouth. At first she just stared at the bone-handed girl in shock then her brows knitted together and her lips twisted into a scowl.
Even as the ice cream trickled into her mouth and she discovered she liked the taste it, she still looked upset. It was the principle of the thing after all, "Wai yu do dat?!" she demanded, eyes narrowing at the other girl.
Quilt was just as surprised as his charge at the ice cream being thrown except he found it amusing and a well-deserved treatment for the orange-haired infant. He dug into his pocket for a tissue and began to wipe at Magda's face, all the while grinning. "Your daughter has good aim."
