The two cubs had been living together for a while and things seemed to have gotten better for the little green cheetah cub Pilate. Val seemed to have grown almost over night, while, Pilate, stayed the same size. However, Pilate was looking healthier and happier. The food the two of them could get together seemed unreal. Now, Pilate agreed with Val, lizards were nasty when you could eat other things.
A herd of zebra had wandered into their little wedge of land. Plenty of healthy looking fat zebra.
Pilate, who had never seen a zebra, was amazed by these creatures. She had heard stories and knew you were supposed to eat these creatures but the question was how.
The cub had wandered away from her sister to get a closer look at them. "Wooooowwwww," came out in a gentle whisper of amazement. Pilate watched from the comfort of a far away boulder. How in the heck did lions take down such huge animals. The cub wanted to find out, that was for sure.

The ivory and crimson lioness had grown larger rather quickly, and her new little sister was her constant companion. They hunted together, and Valenera did her best to make sure that Pilate learned the hunting basics.
Pilate was getting rather good at catching the birds. Val supposed it had something to do with Pilate being a cheetah, and having that burst of speed, where Val actually had to push to lift off the earth.
But Val loved her new sister. She had always been alone, and now they had each other.
Both were healthier, brighter, their coats luxurious and soft.
Though Val had been leaving in the night hours to meet up with Feleji, she had yet to tell Pilate that he had asked her to be his mate.
Val had said yes, knowing she was only young still.. But she was quite happy with the idea. She had never felt what she felt for Feleji before..But she was sure it was because he was really the only male lion she'd ever conversed with.
She gazed at Pilate, sitting atop a boulder, and smiled, walking closer.
"What are you 'wowing' over here?"
She asked with a smile, taking a seat on the boulder as well.

The cub almost fell over in surprise by her sisters voice. Pilate had been lost in wandering but was quickly dragged back to earth. With a giggle she turned to her sister, a smile spread wide on her maw.
"Look!" She pawed towards the zebra, "Can we have one?" It was almost like Pilate was a kid in an ice cream booth asking her older sister if she could have the banana split.
"I mean.. " She laughed softly, making sure it would not carry over to the zebra's alerting them of the two big cats where abouts. "How .. How can we have one?"
Her mind was on the food. She had not yet heard about her sister's new future mate. Though, Pilate hadn't noticed her sister leaving at night either. The question of where she went had never came up for the simple fact that like a bit of a food glutton, Pilate was also a sleep glutton.

She smiled, nudging her sister gently with her paw.
"We dont."
She said with a grin.
"Zebra's are still a bit hard, unless you can look in that herd, and find a young one.. A young one, we could have a chance at. Most definately not an adult."
She said with a nod.
She had taken to catching the offspring of other animals, only because they seemed to be the easiest to get ahold of.
Being young still, she knew that she had to learn from teh ground up.
"So make sure to look hard."
She said, looking in the herd herself.

Pilate deflated a little with disappointment but she nodded at her sister and looked. Her eyes opened so wide that they felt like they would fall out of her head.
"Oww!" She rubbed her eyes and shut them looking up at her sister. "Looking hard... hurts" Her tone was matter of fact with no trace of whining in her voice.
The cub turned again to the zebra's and stared like she had been before. In amazement. The creatures were huge and could probably trample her to death if she wasn't careful.
"Maybe ... " She looked harder but couldn't since which one was young. They all looked like giants.

Finally, after minutes of continues gazing, when she thought her eyes were gonna droop closed, she saw something.
A little foal, curled in the grass. It was shrieking, and from what Val could see, its leg was broken.
She wasnt sure what had happened, but she was proven correct in its ailment, when its mother; or whom she assumed to be the mother, nudged it.
She was pushing her foal, trying to get it to stand.
The herd seemed to be departing, leaving the mother with the foal.
The mother was frantic with her need to follow the safety of her herd; and the need to stay with her foal to protect it.
But the foal was still shrieking, and it could not stand.
Valenera felt this to be her and Pilate's lucky day. She jumped off the rock, and looked towards her sister. If she wasnt fast, other predators would notice this easy target.
Buffet for nothing. It would be war.
"Seems we're a bit lucky today."

Pilate hadn't noticed the foal and was a little confused by what her sister meant. Still, Pilate hopped off of the rock, like her sister had.
It wasn't till she was off the rock that she noticed the herd of zebra were dispersing. She watched closely and noticed that a full giant zebra was still standing and not moving with the herd. If the two of them had been bigger, she'd have been an easy meal with out her herds protection.
But wait, just below those giant legs was something smaller and something not moving.
"SISTER!" She yelled and covered her mouth hoping that no one, specially the zebras, heard. Pilate couldn't help it, she was excited.

Val's eyes were trained on the foal, and she knew that the Zebra mother's eyes were trained on the two of them. She had heard Pilate's cry.
Val stopped, and turned to look at her. She wasnt angry, but she clearly had a look of Shhhh, on her face.
She turned back, heading forward once again at a slow, steady pace.
The mother Zebra, was torn between leaving the calf, or fighting them off. But it was clear in those wild eyes that she was on the edge and ready to run.
So Val took her oppurtunity and serged forward with the speed of a lion.
She knew that if she rushed the mother, the mother would freak, and bolt. Leaving the foal there to Val's jaws.
The mother zebra did exactly what Val had expected her to do, and turned with a flurry of dust and hightailed it back towards the departing herd.
Val did not stop, and rushed the foal, grabbing its little body with her claws, and sinking her fangs into its neck, shaking it a bit.

The cubs ears fell and she lowered her self close to the ground. She was a little ashamed but she knew her sister wasn't mad. She was just embarrassed.
The cub's eyes widened as she watched her sister move with great strength and speed towards the zebra and watched as the the mother left her young to the two of them. Pilate didn't blame the zebra mother for leaving, if she had stayed with the foal, then she would have been dinner for another hungry hunter some where along the lines. It was just how things were in the wild plains of Africa.
Pilate ducked out of her hiding place and slowly paced over to her sister. The zebra foal was dead and the two of them had a meal that dreams were made of. Fresh dead zebra that weren't just left overs from a bigger animal's kill.
"Val..." She couldn't form the words 'you did it'. The events that had just taken place were unreal and dream like. Her happiness showed in her eyes though. It took a while for her to really fully realize this was no dream.

Valenera could not believe that her attempt had actually worked. Someone had been looking out for her this day. She smiled, blood staining her chin.
"I did!"
She looked so proud of herself, as she was now proving that she was a predator.
Only, with this good of a kill, other scavengers would be out to grab teh meal from them.
She may have killed the foal, but if a hyena or another lion wanted it, it became their meal. Val wasnt going to endanger herself or Pilate for food.. Not when she was so little. Maybe when she got bigger.
"Eat up Pilate, we may not have much time with it."
She said with a smile, tearing her own piece and swallowing it down her throat with ease.

The lioness didn't need to speak another word. Pilate dug her maw into the flesh of the zebra and took her fill in fast quick bites. The meet was juicy and loaded with flavor. Juices rolled down her chin as she ate messily.
After a long while the cub looked up. She was full and happy and a mess. This cub hadn't had food like this in her whole life from a fresh kill. Usually it was days old and starting to turn when she got a bite of zebra. Never before had she had such fresh juicy meat.
"Val! Its so good!"

"Of course its good, silly!" She giggled, tearing at the meat with he rown ferocity.
She ripped at it, her paws holding their place on the carcass, while she pulled with her strong jaws.
A sliver ripped off, and she began chewing, before almost immediantly throwing her head back to swallow it.
She had become a rather impressive hunter.. She had taught herself, and learned little tidbits from Geheim, her adoptive hyena father.
"We need to eat our fill, and engorge, so we can go laze under a tree somewhere."
She said gigglnig again.

Even though her ribs were feeling the weight of her fill she continued to eat. Glutton like yes, but who knew when luck would bestow such a tasty gift in the paths of the two felines again. Pilate ripped at a fleshy leg, trying to tare it clean off the baby zebra carcass. It was no easy task for one with such a small structure, but she managed to dislocate the beasts leg and grinned.
There was no way she could eat more but perhaps she could at least keep part of the kill away from other scavengers and hunters. "I'm going to bury this," Pilate looked silly with the thing hanging out of her mouth. Even though it was a baby, the things leg was almost as long as she was. Quite silly indeed.

Val giggled, nodding a bit.
"Yes, we should bring that with us, so that we can make sure you can have food tonight."
She said, taking it from the youngsters jaws, into her own.
After all, she was larger than her little 'sister', and she knew it was her duty to carry her sisters meal.
She motioned for the green cheetah cub to follow her, and found the perfect resting place.
It was a large tree, casting the perfect shade over the little expanse of grass underneath it.
Perfect place for burying a leg... and lazing as your fill digested.
She sighed as the heat was off her back once in the shade, and using her strong claws, went to the base of the tree, and started digging into the earth.
When enough was free, she dropped the leg, kicking it in when it did not fall completely into the hole.
Using her large paws to place the dirt back, and stomp on it to settle it, she laid over it, and smiled proudly.
She was such a good big sister!
"Now no one will get to it."
She said proudly.

Pilate giggled and followed after her big sister. Watching her dig a hole was great fun, she was skillful and strong compared to the little green cheetah.
"I suspect they won't," with that she took a step in the shad and curled close by her big sister. The cub was satisfied more then words could describe. It was a great feeling and a great meal.
Already it seemed buzzerts were swarming the air over head. Wouldn't be long til' a scavenger caught these signs and followed them to a free meal. There was a good amount left for at least one meal for a bigger scavenger. Pilate purred looking where the leg had been detached feeling cleaver.
