The Story
Humankind had continued to steadily strive for a long time after the brief low-point in early 2K.
Numerous sudden advances in technology had thrown primary religions in to a scare, re-writing their core beliefs to fit the new understanding of the world around us..
Humanity was so wrapped up in their unexpected exploration of space and other life outside of their own that they were not prepared for what was waiting patiently for them..
There was a Rogue Excavation team that had a self-funded project for a yet unexplored planet some distance from Earth..
The team had tight communications with earth along their entire trip, reporting nearly every little finding in very nice detail, leaving nothing undocumented..
The third day after landing the communication had been abruptly shut off, the sound of bitter silence filling the ears of the people back on Earth..nothing to give suspicion of any foul play to any of the communications officers..
This had all happened in November 2109, around February 2110 there had been a reporting of an unidentified object crashing into Earth overnight..every scientist and upcoming research student was on-site to examine the object.. There was nobody familiar with the rogue team on the spot at time.. Some time passed before the soon-to-be-revealed ship was opened..
Inside there were genetically altered humans that poured out like a plague upon the innocent bystanders, slaughtering the poor beings with no remorse.. the nearby town was also wiped clean of any live other than that of the unidentified beings that had came off of the ship.. There was no communication with the rest of the world as to this event due to the quick and unannounced attack..the rest of the world was oblivious to the threat right under their nose..
Nearby towns were caught at inopportune times during the night, in less than 3 hours time every one occupying them were slaughtered and thrown into the streets..
This went on for a couple of years, 2112, when the lacking of people that were once in contact with those still alive was becoming apparent.. Just before word began to get out there was a more widespread reporting of a meteor crashing-landing into Earth, this one a LOT larger of a hit, taking out a small town's worth of land with the impact.. The people in surrounding towns quickly flocking to see what was happening..
The meteor was the last thing they should have gone to..it was contagious with some virus that seemed to alter humans' genetic coding..allowing them the ability to (with very long and extensive training and practice) to control dark energies, creating fields that raise or lower the mass of all objects in that field.. A positive current increases mass, a negative current decreases it..
There had been a very high amount of technological advancement MUCH exceeding how far we should actually be advanced upon the discovery of this material.. It introduced the ability of high-speed space travel and gave certain qualities of super-human abilities to those that were willing to master their gift.. The company Neurox has built upon the advancement of the gift in people that can actually take control of it, implants have been created to further increase the capabilities of the "Biotics"..
