We know the bands but how did it all start? Well, since the actual explanation on the FBR site is way too long and no one'll bother to read it, I'm just going to post parts of it and summarize/paraphrase the rest whee . This is how it all happened...
Vinnie, the drummer from a band called Less Than Jake, and John Janick, this guy that no one knows, met at a LTJ show one night, became friends, and came up with a great idea.
Vinnie: Hey, we should combine our talents and contacts to form a record label! John: Sure, dude. Sounds rad. Vinnie: Awesome!
Fueled By Ramen's first offices were John's dorm room and Vinnie's apartment, and the label was officially born when a sampler was released in August of 1996. The cassette tape is infamously known for being packaged like Chinese take-out.
(while sitting in apartment, eating take-out) Vinnie: (stares at food) Hey, let's package the cassette like Chinese take-out! John: Sure, dude. Sounds rad. Vinnie: Awesome!
First releases include a number of rare, e-bay worthy seven inches, flexi discs and limited CDs from Less Than Jake, Bigwig, The Hippos and The Impossibles. High sales and an enormous response from fans prompted John and Vinnie to move FBR operations out of their homes and into a "real" office at the beginning of 1999.
Since then, Fueled By Ramen has grown exponentially and has released over 50 albums during its six-year existence.
