A light dappled grey, almost white mare looked at the horizon, her white mane curling around her neck. She bent down the grass below her, and ate. It had been almost a month since she'd come to this land. In that month she had met a rather quiet, but very interesting mare, who became her herd mate. Or rather, Corine became hers. What surprised her more, was not that she had agreed to it (the two legged one offered apples. There really wasn't any doubt she wasn't going to be staying), but was that she had not tried to see every side to the decision. She had just decided to stay with them, on impulse. This decision had left her quiet and contemplative for weeks now. Corine just couldn't understand how she had done it. It might have been because Duskai had a deep darkness to her, one that kept her from the teepee and home for many a day. Or it might have been because this was a new world. Corine was not sure. Then there was the matter of her brother. Upon coming here, and leaving their home, Corine had lost the one person she care about the most. She had not seen Gaspard since her hooves touched this soil, and it bothered her. Had he found himself a herd, as had she, or had he simply roamed the land? Corine wasn't sure, but she needed to know. After all... he was her brother.

Though quite used to traveling and being left to his own devices, it was true Gaspard enjoyed the company of familiar faces. He'd made a friend in Dia, which he hadn't expected at all, and he thought he ought to take some time to visit her soon. Still, while he liked Dia, she was a new acquaintance, and there was something to be said for the comfort of the old and the familiar. He hadn't had a lot of it in his travels, especially in his youth, but ever since he'd gone back to find Corine, they'd stayed fairly close in their wanderings.
That had changed since they'd found Kawani lands. Something about them seemed to have woven a spell over one or both of them; after arriving, they'd instantly set off in opposite directions, and hadn't seen anything of one another since. While it wasn't exactly a terrible thing, he found that he was missing his sister of late, especially after speaking of her with Dia. He'd like to know how she was, and if she was making any friends.
Some would have considered it foolish to make friends when you lived a nomadic lifestyle, but Gaspard would be hard pressed to find enjoyment in a life without at least friendly encounters. He didn't really have a lot of them with mares, which was why the situation with Dia surprised him, but he certainly wasn't averse to them. It made things a little difficult when it became time to move on, but thus far, he didn't really have any notion of leaving.
He supposed that would change if he came face-to-face with his sister and she felt it was time to go. He could rearrange his priorities if necessary. Still, he hoped that wasn't the case, as he was beginning to enjoy the land.
Turning a corner, he was surprised to see Corine standing not twenty yards before him, casually grazing, apparently at all peace with the world.
He stopped short, ears pivoting forward, and blinked. It was as though she'd been summoned from his thoughts.
"Corine." Though he didn't yell, his voice carried. Pleased, a smile evident on his face, he trotted toward her. How long had it been? Almost a month? "I was just thinking of you."

Her ears pricked up and she looked at the source of the familiar voice. Gaspard... A smile carved itself into her muzzle, and touched her eyes. "Gaspard... my brother..." she said, meeting him. She nuzzled his neck affectionately and breathed in his scent.
"I have missed you, my brother. It has been too long," she said softly, knowing he could hear her. She felt at peace, and at ease with everything. The one she could open up to was finally around her again. Her facade of indecision fell from her and the real, somewhat judgmental Corine seeped through.

Whereas such an open display of affection with anyone else would make him uncomfortable, it was only natural with his sister. Smiling, Gaspard returned the gesture and sighed contentedly, silently agreeing that it had been a little too long since they'd last seen one another.
Drawing back, he got a good look at her, and was satisfied to see that Corine appeared well and healthy. The Kawani lands were treating her well, and he was glad of it. Perhaps she'd even made some friends? He knew he had, and not only other horses; there was a human who had been rather kind to him, and seemed to respect that he didn't appreciate being handled overmuch. He thought he could get used to her, especially considering the abundance of treats she seemed to always have on hand.
Not that he was a glutton, but he would be hard pressed to refuse an apple if it was offered to him.
Shaking his mane out, he asked, "How have you been? You look well," he added, satisfaction obvious in his quiet tone.

Corine smiled at him. "I have been well. I have met another mare in these lands, and the two legged one who cares for her. She is quiet, and uncertain about herself, but she is very kind. She means well. I think you would like her. How have you been, brother? Have you met anyone, as well?"

"I have been well." He glanced around, wondering the mare she spoke of was anywhere nearby, but it seemed not. Both of them had always enjoyed their time alone, however, so he really wasn't surprised.
Tilting his head, he thought of Dia, and the brief but enjoyable conversation they'd had. "I have met a few interesting people. In fact, I would like to introduce you to at least one of them; I think you would like her."
It was natural to Gaspard to want to share the things he found enjoyable and interesting with his sister, and he would have been surprised had anyone suggested otherwise. He knew their closeness wasn't enjoyed by all siblings, but it had been that way for them for a rather long time.

Corine smiled at him and nodded. "I trust your judgment." She wondered if this one he spoke of he liked. It wasn't her nature to ask, but this was her brother she was talking to.
She looked at him, her eyes full of curiosity. "This one you speak of... do you like her?" The question was blunt, and kind of surprised Corine that she could ask it, but again... this was Gaspard, the one person she could say just about anything to. So it wasn't so shocking.

Ear flicking toward his sister, Gaspard slowly raised an eyebrow. With anyone else, he would have considered the question as mundane as it seemed - did he like Dia? of course. - but with Corine, he could be assured she didn't speak idly. Though often detached and impartial to others, her true nature emerged around family, and she often had a decided opinion about things. It made him wonder just what she was attempting to discern.
The curiosity in her eyes gave him some indication, however. Shaking his head, a wry smile on his mouth, he replied, "Yes, sister. I appreciate her company. As for any deeper feelings -" He frowned a little, then eyed her once more. "No. We've only just met, and I consider her a friend."
Did others really fall in "love" so easily and quickly? Certainly he felt an attachment to Dia, and she was quite pleasing, both in personality and appearance, but he would not mistake that for a strong affection. He would need to know her much longer before such a thing became possible.
In fact, the thought hadn't even entered his head until Corine had suggested it, and now he found himself baffled to even be considering it.
Ears flicking back slightly, he murmured, "And you, Corine? Has anyone engaged your affections?"

Corine nodded then shook her head. "No... I have only met Duskai. You and father are the only stallions I know of," she said, flicking her tail about. In all her travels, she had not come across a single stallion. This surprised her, and she'd been over the cause of this neumurous times, but it didn't upset her. She wasn't exactly looking for a guy; she was looking for a friend, perhaps, and it need not be a guy.
She looked away from him for a moment. "You do know what happened between Mother and Father, correct?" she asked, wondering if he knew or not. It seemed so long since then, when their mother left. Corine wasn't sure if Gaspard had come back before or after Mother left. She had to ask, just in case.
