She lay sphinx-like on the dusty, grass-tufted ground, her head raised to the sun and a content look on her face. The wind was good today and the day was perfect for simply lazing around and doing not much of anything.

Between her forepaws was the crystal she carried with her always, it glittered in the sun and threw rainbows out across the ground. To her the crystal was her seer-rock, but whether it truly helped her with her visions it was yet to be known. Perhaps it was the mere focus which it enabled her to find that jelped, rather than the jewel doing anything except looking pretty.

In any case, she held it close and purred deep in her throat.

Yes...it was a rather perfect day.

Njalo padded along on his walk. Once again, the bouts of depression had hit him. He had spent his life searching for gods--for knowledge--and he was anything but satisfied with the modest results. The green lion frowned at the sky: the cheery sun seemed to mock his dark emotions. At least he had Eupe and the others now, but still... if only he had some sign...

The wind heard his request and so carried a scent to his nose. Intrigued, and always eager for company, he changed his direction and trotted briskly towards the source. Maybe this would be his lucky day; maybe this was his sign.

At the sound of thudding paws, she cracked open a green eye, hugging her jewel closer, like a precious egg. Then, after a moment of two, the approaching one came into view. A lion. A green lion. A young male lion. Mmm. Interesting.

She did not rise yet, but rather called out a chuff of greeting, lifting her head and ears with curiosity.

Then, she spoke.

"Greetings, Kitten. Aren't you a pretty thing? One of rare pelt, I'd say. And what a beautiful pelt." She purred.

"Uh, why... thank you," Njalo said nervously. He enjoyed getting complimented; it was more the title he felt oddly about. Kitten? Still, he told himself, it was far better than being left alone to his thoughts.

Awkwardly he realized that she probably expected a compliment in return: "Yes, well, you're quite colorful yourself." He paused, not wanting to dwell on subject, but not sure what else there was to talk about. Noticing the crystal, Njalo asked enthusiastically, "Ooh, what's that?" He was genuinely curious, as always, and the shiny, high-quality look the stone had made him all the more interested.

She purred and glnced up at him through half-lidded eyes - tinted blue that complimented the grey of her pelt. "Thank you."

She blinked. "Oh? This?" She indicated the seer-rock with a tilt of her snout and loosened her hold so that it was in better view. She adored showing off her most precious treasure but if anyone dared touch or take it without permission...all hell would break loose.

"This is my seer-rock, a precious, precious thing that works a wonderful magic. My eyes lose themselves in its surface and in them I see things that have been, things that are and things that will be. Beautiful, isn't it?"

"Beautiful indeed," said Njalo, drawing closer, his eyes locked on the interesting stone. "You can see... things that haven't happened yet?" he inquired--half nervously, half excitedly--as his moss eyes flicked up to meet the lioness's pale blue ones.

"Can you see whenever you desire?" The mysterious shimmer of the stone entranced him, and he lay down in front of the gray lioness without waiting for an invitation to be seated, eagerly waiting for a response.

She purred, glad for his admiring gaze and lapping up the attention as a thirsty cat might lap at a pool. She dipped her head and peered up at him through her eyelashes.

"I can indeed." She replied, using her 'mysterious' voice. "Whatever I desire. Whatever you desire." She continued, eyeing him expectantly. He settled himself and she continued.

"But my services come with a pride, Kitten. Even for one as handsome as you."

"Whatever I want?" Njalo repeated, his thirst for knowledge growing more urgent. But what did he want to see. His past? No, he knew most of his past. He understood the present. But the future? Anything in the future could help him... somehow, wasn't exactly sure. If he saw a god, then that would ensure that he would at least meet one more in his quest, for one. Then the seer made her demand.

"Yes, yes, of course. Anything at all," he said, still staring at the mysterious orb, "Just... could I see my future?" He smiled as the words escaped his maw; there was something mischievous in the notion, as though it was tricking time.

"Uh huh." She nodded, feeling her heart flutter with excitement. She liked the way he was looking at her. Hungrily, perhaps? He really wanted to see something, she could tell, and her whole being was tingling with anticipation. Oh how she adored her gift and how she loved that look in a male's eyes. She smiled and her whiskers lifted very slightly.

"Your future? A good choice." She thrummed pleasantly. "To know one's future is to control it, is it not? The future is what matters, after all, and my speciality as it so happens." Her eyes glinted. "And my price?" She paused, purring quietly. "A pretty trinket or a night with you would suffice." Her eyes sparkled and the way she eyed him made it clear that she was hoping he would choose to spend a night with her.

He was very handsome after all.

Njalo nodded as the lioness spoke. Yes, he was now convinced, he must see his future. No longer was it a preference, or just a whim; it was necessary to his sanity. Yet when she named her price, Njalo's mind faltered.

He had nothing to give, so he was left with the second option. His stomach lurched as he thought about Eupe. But why was he thinking of her anyway? They were friends, not mates. Well, that's how it started--had anything changed? No, Njalo told himself with conviction in an attempt to avoid the guilt that crept over him. He needed to see his future, there was no choice... and the lioness was pretty.

"The second option would be preferable," he replied, quietly but clearly. He felt nervous now, if that is what it was. He hadn't ever noticed such a feeling before. Whatever it had been, Njalo's anticipation for the fortune soon drowned it, and Eupe, out of his mind.

She prrummed deep in her chest, clearly happy with his decision. She did love trinkets, but a handsome male was certainly more preferrable to her. She settled herself again, drew a paw across her seer-rock and smiled up at him through half-lidded eyes.

"Very well, Kitten." She purred softly, letting her tail twitch slowly back and forth.

"Before we begin, I shall ask, is there anythign in particular you would like me to find out about your future? You can be as specific as you wish. My control is quite good."

She smiled again, waiting.

(( If you want, you can post what part of his future you want her to see here, or you can PM it to me, either way is cool <3 ))

"Not really," he lied. He wanted to see something with wings in his future; he wanted confirmation that he would meet another god or goddess. "Maybe... significant events, or something, though, on second thought?" He was far too anxious to say more, so he melted into a silent wait.
