Dahlmir gave an impatient tap of his paws, his claws causing a soft "clack" everytime they came in contact with the hard earth. He snorted and looked around, seeing Myrkur a bit ways off, in a small sliver of moonlike, playing with some sort of floating thing. A butterfly, he guessed. He snorted, remembering the reason why he was there. Myrkur had no playmates.

He had recently come upon this section of the Neutral lands, Myrkur at his heels as always, and had heard rumors of a pair of pup-snatching wolves. At first, he thought the stories false, until he had met the pair. They had come to him, desperate for a job, and he had agreed to think about it, at least, as Myrkur was close by and he didn't want to look bad in front of the pup. (He wasn't a pup anymore, but Dahlmir was still used to calling him that.) He had thought over it a few days, and at first, he didn't really think Myrkur needed any friends. Surely, he himself was good enough? Then, he remembered the time Myrkur had fallen in a pit, and he had laughed; the numerous times he went hunting and left Myrkur to his own devices; and the fact that his form of "play" usually involved batting Myrkur around wherever he pleased. It wasn't very hard for him to convince himself that Myrkur probably needed a companion. What good was a butterfly, after all?

Dahlmir shifted, nudging a loose bush to the side to hide Myrkur from the eyes of his... visitors, once they arrived. They had agreed to meet at the very place he was in now, for him to tell them his decision. He would accept. He assumed that they would take a pup that was parent-less and if the pup happened to have a family, then he told himself that the said family probably wouldn't notice if they didn't care enough to guard their pups more carefully in the first place.

Again, he gave an impatient tap of his paws, and decided to amuse himself by looking at the scenery. It was a nice night. Dark, with a small bit of moon. Perfect, he thought. The shade the forest he was in provided good cover, and he had made sure to check the land for possible escape routes and the like. There was a river close by for hiding his scent and numberous dens which he assumed were abanonded (if they weren't... well, he would change that soon enough). He knew Myrkur would follow him wherever he went, like his own living shadow, so he didn't worry too much about the young helix.

Dahlmir bared his fangs, bristling his mane in agitation. They had better come soon, he thought.

User ImageLike a fang dripping in blood, Yasushi slid from the bushes a few moments later, smirkingin that smug way he had. He looked to make sure his beloved mate was following him. He was nothing without her- the bonnie and clyde of the helix realm. He spotted their client and smiled, padding over swiftly. He sat down and gave a tail flick as a greeting, teet flashing cruelly. What luck they had had. They had run out of shinies, trading them for food and other edible goods around their home. And now they had gotten a new customer who had many lovley things to share.

Yasushi began to groom himself as he waited for his mate to join them. "Reached a decision, friend?" he asked ina slippery voice.

User Image Though outwardly her coat and markings far contrasted her beloved Yasushi, her personality was not so vastly different. The young helix followed the male that she had chosen, though they really weren't that far from being pups, themselves. They were both rotten to the core and complemented each other almost perfectly, so they had to be the perfect match and she was madly in love with the thief.

Her pelt was vibrant, but her paws were swift and silent, making up for the bright pink and purple hues that covered her white pelt. Her mind was a whir with the thrill of stealing another pup into the night and the fact that both he and she would have new adornments. As much as she hated to admit it, she sorely missed the trinkets that she and her mate had to part with not so long ago. Payment was always well when pupnappings were involved and the pair always worked for the highest bidder. They wandered and traveled to wherever payment and work took them and she was never one to turn down future employment possibilities.

"Oh yes, have you?" Her voice sounded giddy and almost playful, though the topic was an insidious one. Her paws practically pranced as she awaited the brown hued helix's response and she hoped ever so much that he would be the one to give them work! It had been so long since they actually had an objective, be it pupnapping or simple thievery. She longed to get back to causing general mischief and mayhem. It was something that just seemed to run in her veins and would pass down to her offspring, no doubt.

Her purple and pink tipped tail lashed behind her lithe frame almost playfully and her eyes shown with an excited and almost dangerous glint.

Dahlmir pressed his ears forward when he heard the pair coming, nodding slightly in greeting. "Welcome." he said, barely managing to keep the words "took you long enough" in his mouth. He wrinked his lips in annoyance at the two, the way they spoke as if he and they were old friends, but did nothing more, for he, too, was a thief, and knew their ways. Most likely they were acting friendly and polite, just to convince him to accept their offer.

"I have." he finally said after a long silence. He looked over them both, reluctant to tell them. Sure, he enjoyed feeling power in his paws and watching the faces of the distraught and confused helixes he had stolen from, but he had never taken a pup. He just didn't see them to be as valuable as the trinkets he usually took.

"I suppose I will accept your offer." He yawned, as if it was an everyday thing for him, trying to show he was relaxed. He also tried to show that he could change his mind in a split second, for he knew how to bargain, and he hoped that the two would be desperate enough to be willing to lower their prices. "What would be the terms of our agreement?" he asked, half-closing his eyes. "You bring me a pup, any pup that's not too high-strung, am I correct? A play-mate is the type I'm looking for. Or do I have no say in the personality of the pup you bring me?" He wrapped his tail around his paws slowly, feeling foolish. What would a helix of his age want with a pup as a "play-mate?" ... He could have smacked himself. He realized his words could have been interpreted to mean that he was interested in small, young pups to molest.

He growled to himself. It didn't matter what the others thought, they would be out of his fur soon. "And what would you get in return?"

His black rimmed eyes made his face appear more feral and he nodded. "High strungpups are too difficult to manage." he said, itching himself. "We'll porbably head north. Lots of mothers died in the winter so there'll be plenty of oprhan pups. You said you wanted a play mate, so we'll get a male." he turned to his mate.

"What do you want as payment, peach-cheeks?" he asked her, giving her cheek a sloppy lick and her rump a pat with his tail.
(sorry. internet had problems)

"The high strung are absolute horrors." She confirmed with a curt nod. Try as she might, her lighthearted appearance never seemed to go away, she appeared completely opposite of her feral appearing mate. Her pink ears flicked as Yasushi continued speaking and what he said was true. The winter had been particularly rough, especially in the higher northern region.

"Aye, many wouldn't of survived. Most any pup from up there would probably worship the ground you walk on in exchange for a dry shelter and food to eat. You ought to not 'ave any problem with the one we bring back."

She shot the red and black male a playful grin as he displayed his affection for her and she couldn't help but to grin widely. "Payment, payment, payment..." The way Dahlmir had spoken was a clear indication for the fact that he knew how to bargain. He would be a tough one, unlike so many other helix they had duped in the past. They couldn't push too hard, that was obvious.

"A few pretty little trinkets 'ought ter do, what for all the traveling and caring for the little snot while we bring him down 'ere."

Dahlmir listened to them, giving a satisfied nod. If the pup would be obedient, then he would have no problem with letting Myrkur keep it around. However, as soon as it caused problems... he was sure he could just throw it out. It would be alone, anyways, in the North, wouldn't it? "Yes... a male would be nice." he murmured. He didn't know what Myrur was like with a female and he didn't want any random pups appearing, after all.

His nose twitched with distaste at Yasushi's show of affection, and he wondered how the female could just stand there while Yasushi placed his saliva all over her cheek. And yet, others wondered why he chose to remain mateless....

He nodded with agreement with Yasushi's nod. Even he had felt the cold of winter in the Neutral lands, and it rarely snowed in the area. He had even heard reports of hail and snowstorms in other areas. Now that he thought about it... why didn't he just get a pup himself? He knew where it was. The North, obviously.

Ah, but he would have preferred to stay in the warmth. His unwillingness to depart with even a few trinkets and his hate of the cold made him pause, uncertain. Finally, he decided that parting with a few of his items would be worth it. It wasn't like he wore them... right?

"A few? And whose opinion would that be based on?" Dahlmir asked. He hoped they would say it would be based on his opinion, so that he could say that, to him, a few was only one or two accesories.

Yasushi continued to lick her until the male finished speaking. "Wonderful choice." he said. "You can't go wrong with us. We haven't failed a job yet." he said.

He did the job not only because he enjoyed the payment, but because he liked the expression of a mother wolf losing her pup. It filled him with chills and sent his fur to bristle.

He paused again. "Depends on how much you're willing to part with for him. But someone else might want a pup too. If they pay more, they get the pup. Our last customer wasa female in the east who parted with a whole bunch of human shinies in return for a pup to eat." he said. "I felt bad, but the pay was good." He yawned.

She couldn't help but to shoot her mate a look, hoping he knew what he was doing Dahlmir seemed to be a swift and sharp minded helix. He probably knew he could take a pup for himself if the North really was easy pickings for pups right now. It wouldn't take much for him to back out...

Or at least that was the conclusion she came to.

She gave the male a friendly grin an d a wag of her tail. "Ma 'always said a couple is two. A few is three or more. So, be ye' willing to part with at least three for a healthy, well behaved pup fer your little one to play with?" She leaned back on her haunches and her ears swiveled, searching for sounds of the pup that the toffee male had hidden from view upon their arrival.
PostPosted: Wed Mar 04, 2009 6:09 pm

Dahlmir gave the male a look, skeptical. He had never heard of a helix owning the shrines human had built, although he had to admit it was possible if the helix was strong enough to defend them all. "I see your point." he said. "If you get a better offer, I understand if you'll decline mine for it." He only said it because he was confident that there would be no other offers. Helixes practically worshipped their pups, being so closely related to wolves, and he doubted any would give them a better deal than he did. Most would probably attack the two on sight if they knew what they were doing.

He looked to Ackai when she spoke, flicking his ears to let her know he was listening to her now, not her mate. "I suppose I'd be willing to...." he faded off as the female finished her sentence and he grinned, as if he had no worry at all for Myrkur. "So you've noticed, hmm?" he asked, laughing to cloak his true feelings. He grew nervous, wondering how she had noticed. Did they both know? Had they watched him from the shadows of the forest? He knew Myrkur was a large helix now, and the two would leave him alone because of his size, so he tried to calm himself with those thoughts.

"Very well." he said suddenly, desperate to get them away. "I agree with the terms. A few trinkets of my own for a pup." He stood, bristling his fur. He knew the two, although already couples, were much younger than him and he tried to make them fearful of him. "Then go. I don't pay you to waste your time." He bared his fangs. "And make sure none discover your plans, or your purpose." He knew that many would be against him if it was discovered that he was buying stolen pups, as if they were ordinary items. He was sure he could convince others that he was innocent, especially with Myrkur by his side, but he would rather stay away from conflict, especially with the danger of being recognized for he had stolen from many, in varying locations, and his chocolate-like coat was easy to distinguish.

He wanted to turn away, to go back to Myrkur and make sure he was safe, but he wouldn't show his back to these two until he knew they were away.

Yasushi smirked and nodded his head. "That's fair." he said, turning to his mate. "Shall we go then, my love?" he asked her. "After all, he DOESN'T pay us to waste his time." He laughed, smirking horridly.
He then turned and padded back into the bushes, heading north.

Myrkur padded over only when they were gone. "Uh...?" he asked, looking at their fleeing forms.

"They won't even notice we've crossed the borders." Ackai spoke softly and gave the toffee male a cheerful wink, before twirling around to join her mate in trotting away. It wasn't the first time they had swiped a pup and it certainly wouldn't be the last. The scum of the Helix world, unfortunately, seemed to be like a streak of permanent marker. No matter how much you scrub, there seemed always be at least a little bit left.

"Wouldn't be wanting to waste your time and money! Take care an' keep an eye on the little one!" She called out over her shoulder, if anything just to agitate Dahlmir; she had no real interest in the pup that he was currently watching over.

"So, 'ought to be a quick job, love." She commented, once they were ought of earshot. "The bloke 'ad some pretty trinkets last we saw, too. Methinks this will be fun and most rewarding, eh" She nosed the side of his neck playfully, then continued padding along. It wouldn't take too terribly long to reach the North. Maybe a night or two.

Dahlmir snarled loudly as they left, glad that they were gone. He snorted and was about to turn back when a sudden sound made him jump. He was relieved to find it was the sound of Myrkur and faced him, ears flickering.

"It was nothing important." he said, feigning a bored tone. He yawned, to emphasize his point. "We should sleep soon."

With that, he slid past Myrkur and deeper into the forest beyond, trying to lure him away from where the pup-snatcher had seen him.

Myrkur looked in the direction the two had gone, but he made no noise. He just turned and scampered after Da, panting. Truth be told, the scumbags couldn't be much older then he was.

"A nice easy job. Find a pup. Make sure its alone, that's the plan." he said. "It will be a lot of fun. Pups are easy to catch in the lull after winter."

"Too true!" Ackai chuckled as she padded along beside her red and black mate. The young, sleazy duo had a good bit of experience. That was unfortunate for those who they stole or stole from.

((Time skip to the North, shall we on our bit, Rei?))
