I'll be in charge of the updates to the current systems/games that are coming along in the SquareEnix works in progress. Hopefully it'll be updated daily unless nobody updates anything....

For now, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children

(I'll get to the other games as soon as I can)

Quote:
As of August 21, 2004 (Recent updates in bold print)

Release dates:
Movie set for release in Japan later this year.
As of yet undetermined when the movie will come out in the US – suspected early 2005 along with the PSP (Playstation Portable) release
European/Australian releases are unknown/unconfirmed as well.

A note that the release date has been delayed due to Nomura's poor health. crying (Hope he gets better soon!)

Characters introduced so far:
(20 characters are to be introduced but as of yet, only a few of the more important and popular characters have shown up)

***Yazoo is the most mysterious of the three, as no information has been released about his role other than he uses a gun called the "Velvet Nightmare".

Yuffie and a hint of Zack in the right hand corner - http://media.adventchildren.net/scans/jp0823-2.jpg

Basic information known in regards to the plot of the movie:

The story takes place two years after the end of the game. A disease known as "star scar syndrome" or "geostigma" (as said in the English trailer shown at E3) has affected many of the people living on the Planet, particularly the children who are most suseptible to the disease. Cloud is living alone, separated from the rest of the gang, and he doesn't stay in one place often.

In the trailers, he is seen getting attacked by Loz (the short haired silver man) and is fighting against Kadaj, the leader. Vincent seems to play a major role as well, as in the third trailer, he is seen in what seems to be the City of the Ancients. Tifa fights against Loz at the church in Midgar, Barret makes a small cameo in the second trailer, but the other characters have yet to be shown in any of the trailers so far.

Game remake:
Square-enix is NOT going to be remaking the Final Fantasy VII game for the Playstation 2.

However, there is a prequel called "Final Fantasy VII: Before Crisis" set out for the mobile phones in Japan involving the Turks. Head for the third post if you want to know more about Before Crisis.

It's been stated by Nomura Tetsuya in a recent interview with the Playstation 2 magazine in Japan that a project called "Compilation of FFVII" exists, meaning that there is a possibility of more works besides AC and BC being created. Yet like AC and BC, they're more like side explainations rather than a direct sequel or remake for FFVII.

Movie Duration:
Originally intended to be a 60-minute film, but has progressed to be 70-90 minutes.

Miscellaneous Info:

-Production Crew-
Director - Nomura Tetsuya (character designer for FF7, FF8, FFX, and FFX-2; director and designer for Kingdom Hearts)
Composer - Nobuo Uematsu (composer for the Final Fantasy series thus far, excluding FFX-2)
Co-director - Takeshi Nozue (CG design for FF9; Animation director for FFX)
Producer: Yoshinori Kitase (Director for FFX)
Co-Producer: Shinji Hashimoto (Producer of Final Fantasy VIII)
Script/Scenario Writer: Kazushige Nojima (Script Writer for Final Fantasy X)
Art Director: Yusuke Naora (Art Director for Final Fantasy X)
Mech and Creature Design: Takayuki Takeya (Mech Designer for Heat Guy J [anime]; freelance figure artist)

The first 2 trailers can be found at either of the sites. However, the latest one released at E3 in May can only be found at SquareEnix's official FF7:AC site -

A note that you'll need to have the latest version of Flash to look at it.

Updates for Final Fantasy XII:

Quote:
As of August 11, 2004

Release dates:
Japan is scheduled sometime in the Fall/Winter of this year, US release following shortly after (either Winter '04 or Spring '05)

Basic information:
In a not so familiar world to those familiar with Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Advance, FF12 is set in the world of Ivalice. Ivalice is a somewhat more advanced civilization with trade as its essential factor of survival.

Like in the previous worlds of Ivalice, rivalry exists between the big nations Dalmaska and Archadia in which Dalmasca falls and Archadia takes reign. This is where the story takes place, where the princess and new ruler of the Dalmasca royal family, Ashe, joins a resistance faction against Archadian rule.

There's different races besides the humans (which are positioned as a higher class than the other races) such as the Vieras (bunny-like humans) and the Bangaa (lizard-like humans). Moogles return, but they look fuzzier and have longer ears.

Characters revealed thus far: (age in parenthesis)
Vaan (17)
Ashe (17)
Penelo (16)
Basch (36)
Fran (??)
Balthier (22)
Judge (??)
Reks (??)

Battle System:
The battle system for FF12 is called Active Dimension Battle, or ADB. It's pretty much like how Chrono Trigger or Chrono Cross (or any other RPG) worked, for the monsters are on the same playing field as you are. You can run into them, they run into you, or they can hear your footsteps. Kinda cool in a way.

Updates for Final Fantasy VII: Before Crisis

Quote:
As of August 28, 2004:

-General Info-

Well, this was announced at (I believe) E3 or maybe a few weeks prior. The long awaited prequel to the Final Fantasy VII series, it follows along the lines of the Turks before the Mako reactor events. This will be played on the Foma 900i series in Japan by Japanese provider NTT DoCoMo. Whether it will go to other types of phones in Japan and to be imported to the US and Europe has still yet to be seen. Beta testing for FF7:BC will begin August 31, 2004.

-Release Date-

Release date for Before Crisis is pending September 24 in Japan with a monthly subscription.

-Characters-

You can play with a variety of characters, it seems. A blonde young woman very similar to Elena and a red head man have been seen so far. In a billboard in Japan, there reveals some more characters including old ones from the game (such as President Shinra, Rufus, Reno, Rude, Tseng, Cloud, Sephiroth, and Zack) as well as some of the new characters:

http://mokkori67.free.fr/20040705ff7bc.jpg

Magazines such as the Famitsu and Playstation 2 magazines in Japan also say something about "that person's" past will be revealed. Who "that person" is has yet to be said.

-Gameplay-

Gameplay will utilize the maximum of the Foma 900i series' capabilities, and screens look pretty cool for a game on your handheld cell phone:

More info will come as soon as BC progresses.

The Compilations of Final Fantasy VII

Gee...Square likes the word "Cerberus". Well, 2 articles have appeared in English for Vincent's game -- FF7: Dirge of Cerberus:

IGN.com

TotalVideogames.com

And a couple of more scans have appeared in V-Jump for AC, BC, and DC (they're strangely going in alphabet order...)

Random Info

TGS, Tokyo Game Show, begins September 24.

Another new MMORPG has been announced via SquareEnix's list for TGS. It's called Fantasy Earth: Ring of Dominion (hmm...reminds me of a certain trilogy involving hobbits and orcses...)

Saturday, September 25

Well, TGS started in Japan yesterday...if only such game expos were FREE for the public here...

*coughs* Anyway, tons of new stuff:

The Compilations of FFVII

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children

A new trailer was shown at TGS, a very short version of the Venice film festival's showing and a long sequence for Before Crisis (they showed the 25 minute presentation on their business day, yesterday), but hey, it's something good. AdventChildren.net and various other FF sites (such as FF7-2.com) dedicated to the movie might have a link to the latest trailer that was shown today.

Taken by someone who attended TGS, SquareNet has some screen captures of new footage. But beware that this site is totally in German wink

Screens 1
Screens 2

Aaaand...here are some screens of the finished action figures for the movie:

Cloud
Sephiroth
Tifa
Vincent

Sources for the screens came from FF7AC Reunion: A Japanese site. Like it says in the link, the site's kind of an unofficial site dedicated to the movie in Japanese.

Some new screens are available from GameSpot, as well as their account for the mobile game, located here:

IGN.com has some high-resolution screens for Vincent's game:

Final Fantasy XII

So far, not that much stuff. FFXII is scheduled, now, to be released sometime in Japan in Spring of 2005...but until news from TGS shows up for XII, nothing is to be certain.

Trailers of AC, BC, and DC from TGS can be located on Adventchildren.net. The quality of the trailers aren't the best in the world, but they now have audio unlike the previous trailers that show the movie but not the sound.

The site also has provided a way to join the Shinra HQ homepage that SquareEnix has provided to its fans. Unfortunately, it's in Japanese, but Adventchildren.net provides a way to join Shinra.

Check it out

Well, nothing much, really, except that the Montreal Film Festival has ended recently. A report about it by ShadowGirl from Adventchildren.net was lucky enough to be there for the FF7:AC screening and can be located here:

Montreal Film Festival

I'm also tempted to add Itadaki Street Special, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts 2, and other various Square Enix related games that have FF characters on here...what do you guys think?

The Compiliations of FF7

Okay, so there's AC, BC, and DC. Of course, they're forgetting the alphabet by missing a letter...

SquareEnix has recently revealed the 4th game for the compiliation of the game,Crisis Core (man, I'm getting fewer and fewer colors to use by the day...), released for the PSP as an Action RPG -- release date around early 2006 in Japan.

Source: AdventChildren.net

Final Fantasy XII

FFXII wasn't mentioned a lot at TGS, nor was it given such big exposure as to what it exactly is as it was at last year's TGS. The expected released date for Japan is spring 2005 (yes, it's pushed back again).

Ashe and Vaan have been given a new look upgrade, making them look more mature than their earlier versions -- Ashe especially.

A trailer from TGS has been released for FFXII, though it was hardly mentioned, and can be found here.

Itadaki Street Special

Itadaki Street Special is a popular dating board game from Enix, starting off on the Famicom. This game, to be released in Japan sometime in December of this year. It will involve a variety of Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy characters, along with the music from each of the game series. Your goal is basically get the most money by opening your own store (moving on a theme-based board) and meeting your sales target.

Just some random news, but Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories is slated for release on December 7 for the US....or so I've read sweatdrop (but for sure it is coming out next month)

For those of you who don't know what Chain of Memories is....here's a summary:

Quote:
Chain of Memories takes place immediately after the 1st Kingdom Hearts game for the GBA (Gameboy Advanced). So far, Sora has reached a crossroads and now has to decide whether to go on, searching for what he was searching for...meaning his friend, Riku. In order to go, though, Sora has to lose something dear to him....his memories.

Available FF characters, so far, it's unknown as of yet.
