Weaving his way through the halls of the weyr towards the lower caverns for a quick meal while his master had no need for the extra hands to mend a few torn seams or patch any clothing in his shop, Kita takes his time to enjoy this small reprieve from his apprentice work. Not that he minded the work, keeping his hands busy with a bit of thread and some cloth sewing patches in and learning his master's wondrous seamwork wasn't a bad lifestyle at all. On that note itself, he had a small spool of thread with a needle carefully tucked into his pocket in case the need, or opportunity were to arise for some mending to be done even on his break.

Shaking these thoughts from his mind for the moment, he enters the caverns to take a quick glance around and gauge just how crowded it may be before heading over towards the line at the tables to wait his turn to fill a bowl with some soggy cereal as that would suffice for him just fine. Let the riders and others have their share of the "good" foods before himself, that seemed quite fitting and the "correct" thing in his own mind. Now, all that would be next would be to find a table where not much sunlight would be filtering in towards, or even better yet, near a table of riders to listen in on their talk. He wasn't a gossiper himself, but he wouldn't turn down listening to it.

Despite her past experiences, Severia found that she had acclimated quite well to weyrlife. It was a neat and ordered existence that allowed for a bit of freedom, providing both support and fresh air in near equal doses. Upon her arrival, she hadn't really known what to expect, though not for her mother's lack of trying to prejudice her against Dragonmen. The very thought of these people as footloose perverts just revolted her, and she couldn't quite wrap her brain around her own mother's thinking on that one.

But whatever the past case may be, she was NOT going to let her mother rule her life now. Not when she finally had the opportunity to spread her own wings and 'fly,' proverbially speaking of course.

Not that she wasn't hoping to Impress... she was here as a Searched Candidate after all... but she carefully tempered those thoughts. It wouldn't do to appear overly anxious, such thoughts had brought her fairly close to disaster back when she was a child. Twice she had sighed after boys who promised her freedom... and twice she had been left after displaying what they called 'needy' behavior. In her home hold, women and girls were to be seen but not heard, and though she had finally learned to clean and cloth herself in a way that attracted men, those skills hadn't brought her any type of return.

Until she had been Searched that is.

To this very moment she wasn't sure what had prompted the Blue rider to choose her out of the dozens of children presented him. (And to be truthful, she had no idea that it was the dragon who had done the choosing.) But whatever the circumstances were, she was here now and had found an entirely new world.

For starters, she had discovered meatrolls, and Severia was quickly discovering how much she REALLY liked meatrolls. That they were served at almost every meal time helped a great deal, and she usually managed to sneak her way around the riders and ranking Weyrfolk to snatch a few leftovers before they were all gone. Honorably, she made up for her petty theft by choosing a small table far out of the way. It was a nice spot that she had been occupying for a few days now, tucked in the back corner where the stone walls echoed the voices of those around her, where she could sit quietly and just listen.

Once it was his turn in line, Kita helped himself to his usual bowl of cereal and stepped out of line quickly to not slow the process down. His eyes scan the room again carefully for a suitable table and spies one towards the back that isn't crowded, nor in any real sunlight.

Well, now all there would be to that would be asking if he could sit there, there'd been the occasional dispute of "saving chairs" for members of a group or some such gathering to reason away tables to be left empty until their desired parties entered the hall. Not often, but it did happen on occasion depending what group had claimed the table. Best to ask at every table for the safe side and not start anything in the long run anyhow.

Heading for the table he keeps out of the foot traffic so as to not cause any disasters with spilled cereal onto someone else's clothing. The one time that had happened before had not quite ended well, in fact resulting in his master reasoning with the poor "victim" and having Kita's earlier attempts at sewing be done to make them a new shirt, a rather.. sad looking cloth but he'd like to say he had improved since that incident. Of course thinking about that wouldn't do now, so he just lightly shakes the trail of thought from his mind and pauses just a few steps from the table. "Is this table free?"

Nearby Severia cold hear a group of riders discussing the phenomenon that was the dual clutches on the Hatching Sands. Since the topic was more then just a little interesting to someone like her, she paused in her eating to concentrate and catch every word better. The oldest of the group, a brown rider by his shoulder knot, was rather loud, so the young girl didn't have to strain all that hard to hear what he said about the queens and the growing problem of overpopulation.

Naturally, Severia's fertile imagination grasped onto the concept of the great queen dragons, but time and time again she felt herself being pulled back into the conversation when the one woman of a the group, a green rider, spoke. The woman was slight, and raven haired like Severia, but that was where the similarities stopped. This rider was all fire and spirit, and it was all to easy for Severia to imagine the woman riding her green dragon against thread.

Drawn out of her revelry by another, and a lot closer, unknown voice, Severia blinked a few times before her eyes fully fastened on the stranger. At once her mind went awhirl with possible explanations for his unusual appearance, but she was too well mannered to stare for long.

"If it's just you it is." She answered pleasantly enough, though her word choice left much to be desired. "More then two or three might feel a bit cramped." She finished with a cheerful grin, noting with a slight deflation of her mood that the riders she had been listening to were moving off.

Kita had heard snippets of the conversation at one of the riders' tables, and that conversation was one that had been springing up often enough he didn't bother too much to listen in this time as he watched the table in front of him.

The girl sitting there didn't appear to be waiting for anyone, but looks could easily be misleading. She bore dark hair like much of the weyr he'd seen in his time with his master but it seemed well kept. In his mind he started attempting to place what her standing could be, Candidate, or a member of a Craft like himself? Before he could get to any conclusions in his mind she seemed to take notice to his question and had responded with an interesting word selection, that he didn't pay too much mind to.

"No, it's just myself. I'm not the fondest of crowds really, so I wouldn't ask to bring a crowd to someone else either." He returns the smile as he steps closer and takes a seat. "My name's Kita, by the way. You are?"

"Severia." She replied promptly, putting down her hand cloth and knife to extend Kita a rather awkward hand greeting across the table. That was a habit she had learned from the boys of the hold, and while her mother had smacked her for it on a number of occasions, Severia had always liked the gesture. It made the boys equal when they first met, and above all else, Severia was interested in being treated as an equal from now on.

Though in retrospect, she hoped she hadn't offended him by using it.

"A pleasure to meet you, Severia." Kita reaches across the table for the hand greeting and smiles again. "I don't think I've seen you around the weyr before, forgive me for asking but are you new here?" Ah, curiosity. It did kill the firelizard but he couldn't help but to ask. If it were his master instead, the man would be asking what size she wore and if she was interested in any new clothing or needed anything patched, at least he wasn't so outspoken as the man to step out of line that far.

Heartened that he reciprocated so readily, Severia's demeanor softened noticeably. She was technically old enough to be over any girlish shyness by hold standards, but given her rocky relationship with the person who was supposed to teach her about life and dealing with people... Severia allowed herself a little slack in that department. Still, her curiosity about him was eating her alive, so much so that she had apparently forgotten completely about her favorite meatrolls.

"Yes, well, sort of." She answered, a bit of her uncertainty about her own position in life showing on her face. "I was a apprentice to my mother, who's a weaver, when I was Searched. Coming here has been a bit of a shock for me since my home hold was so small, and the two sevendays that I have been here sure haven't made it seem any smaller." She finished, looking down for a moment before meeting his eyes squarely. "It'll get better though, I hope. What about you? Are you here for the Hatching as well?" the last seemed a safe enough topic to broach with someone she didn't know.

Kita's eyes take on just a tiny sparkle of excitement to hear that she is indeed a Candidate. What a thrill that would be for those that were Searched to actually Impress and have a dragon companion. "You're here for the Hatching? That's wonderful, I've yet to meet any of the current Candidates, they all seem so busy keeping themselves away from my master's shop. I wish you luck in finding a dragonling that takes to you"

He nods a bit, understanding the shock of moving into such a crowded populace. "Ah, yes it is a bit to get adjusted to at first. When I came here following my master from our hold it was a lot to take in." The last bit of her conversation registers and he smiles a bit, shaking his head. "No, I'd never Impress as I am, but that's fine with me. I'm apprenticed in the Tailor craft. But you say you were apprenticed as a weaver? That's wonderful too, I've not met anyone, in person at least, who could actually weave cloth, only the traders that brought it to us." He smiles broadly at this new found knowledge. True, she was here to try and Impress a dragon and wouldn't be a weaver herself, but the fact that she could. Well, fascinating enough in itself, and doubly so if she did Impress when the Hatching day comes.

"Yes, I was a weaver for my mother for a few turns, and I have to admit I was a little curious about how the fabrics we made became the clothing we wear." She replied, tensing slightly at the mention of her former occupation, though not because of the occupation itself. Still, unfettered curiosity was a new privilege for her, and she let it run it's course.

"You said you have a Master here? Do you make clothing for the dragonriders? What kind of tools do you use?" Ahh, once it was started it was difficult to stem the flow of questions!

Then, she realized there was another opening, one on the topic she was most curious about.

"Oh, and if you.... well... if you don't mind my asking, what exactly happened to you? You don't look like anyone else I have ever seen!" her bright blue eyes sparkled briefly, and she leaned forward. Unlike her mother who would have been horrified by Kita's condition, Severia was merely curious.

"Making clothing isn't too hard if it's simple, my master hasn't gotten into the detail work he prides himself on just yet. I think he might be testing me to see if I get bored with just hemming and sewing patches into clothes before I can get to learn any intricate things." He smiles just a bit at that, it would be so like the old tailor to do something like that indeed.

"Oh, I don't, personally. My master does sometimes, just pants with sturdier seams that can handle the riding position easier, and a few other things. For the riders it's mainly repairs that enter the shop."

On the last part of questioning, he pauses just a moment to think over how it would be easiest to answer. "Well, nothing happened really. But, I can't imagine there are many like me either way, I was born like this. They called it albinism, it's a Terran word that means I don't have the dark colors in my skin, hair, and everything that I'm supposed to. I just have to avoid sunlight for the harsher parts of the day or my skin will burn easily and my eyes hurt sometimes from the harsh light, but otherwise I'm not unlike anyone else really." He smiles again to show there was no harm in the question. Really, the topic was usually ignored by most people he came across, or they pointed it out in a more.. painful manner than voicing curiosity. Though namecalling was a little young of people, frankly, and didn't bother him more than getting tired of it now and then.

Since testing was a practice she was intimately acquainted with, Severia shied away from further discussion on the subject. She'd have given her right arm to have the serenity Kita apparently possessed when discussing his Master and his Craft, but that wasn't for her. At least, not now.

"Albinism." She quoted, rolling the unfamiliar term off her tongue uncertainly before shaking her head. "I've never heard of such a thing, but I guess that makes you unique in a lot more ways then most people hm?" She meant it in a positive way, since to Severia being unique and independent was a state somewhere close to godhood. "Would you ever be interested in showing me how tailor's sew fabric together? I'll admit that I am dreadfully curious about the whole process." She added, switching the subject smoothly just by following her own train of thought.

Kita takes on a faintly amused grin at how easily the topic keeps seeming to change, whether meant to or not. "I suppose it does, but I wouldn't mind fitting either; it just didn't play out that way for me. Just as for some riders as they Impress a dragon of a color they never thought they would, but adjust and in the end can't see themselves with any dragon other than their partner."

A light nod before he smiles broader and fetches his spool and needle from his pocket where they had been sitting nearly forgotten. "I wouldn't be disinterested, I can say that much. I always have some threads with me when I'm out of my master's shop in case they might be needed." Setting down the half-full spool he keeps his smile settled in place. "It would be a good thing that I seem to love this sewing as much as I do, all we need really is a couple pieces of scrap cloth."

At first, Severia wasn't sure if she had offended him and he was merely trying to stay polite and pleasant. To that effect, she could feel her cheeks flush a bit with embarrassment and she unconsciously hunched her shoulders a bit as she looked back down at her neglected meatroll. "I.. well... you are right in that regard." She mumbled, fiddling a bit with her food until his actions brought her attention back to the table.

It seemed odd to her that he would carry around the instruments of his craft like that, but then, she had never really liked weaving the way she suspected he liked the tailor craft. That, and she certainly couldn't carry a whole loom in her pocket!

Still, her curiosity continued to eat at her, and with the logic only a youngster could possess, she pulled her handkerchief from her pocket and neatly sliced it into two strips with her knife and handed him the pieces. "Will these do?" She asked, hope and a new found shyness warring in her eyes.

Kita studies her immediate reaction for a moment. Strange she seemed so shy all of a sudden, had he phrased his response wrong then? He stops thinking it over when his spool is noticed. It wouldn't be so unusual to carry his work with him really, would it?

He reaches into his pockets again to see if there might be a stray scrap of cloth he could have tucked away. "You don't need to.." Too late, the handkerchief was already sliced. "You didn't have to cut your cloth, don't you need it? Well.. I suppose it can work again if it's sewn back together?" He smiles in a friendly manner again.
