Finally she had slipped away! As much as the raven-coated female hated to admit it to herself, that new male in the pack gave her cold chills, and it irked her that any wolf could make her so uneasy. What her alpha had been thinking when he had paired them for the hunt, she didn't know, but now that she had slipped out from under his radar, she felt so much more at peace.

Well, as much 'at peace' as the female ever could get, that is.

Suspicious thoughts still swirled and tumbled about in her mind. She felt like she was being watched, read, just as she felt under Haemon's gaze. How many wolves out there could possibly see through her so? Her nervousness showed through her steadily ripping veil of calm and cool composure as she sped off through the woods. Velvet paws still glided over the ground in a near-silent pace, weaving around branches and dry ground fodder as she continued on her escape.

She hunted still, of course, for the scent of the escaped slave. She dearly wanted to please her new alpha and return with the pack slave, though now she had the feeling that she was the one being hunted instead...

Caydenn had followed after the female for many hours now. He found her fascinating. Her glistening dark coat, her strange mask, her nervousness ... He found it all very appealing, somehow.

Perhaps he'd followed her silently long enough. Introductions were one of his strong points, after all. He relished his imagined ideas of how she would react, knowing he'd trailed her for the better part of the daylight. If she'd ever know that. His lips curled up at the edges, his tail wagged. He loved these sorts of games. She was already playing his, even if she didn't know it.

The brown male burst from the undergrowth, matching her stride to come along side her, his eyes boring into her. "Where is it you are headed, lone one?"

His voice was soft and clear, not what one would expect from a creature moving at his speed, or one of his size. The large male could hardly contain his joy as he waited for her response.

Liriel's fur bristled all along her back and tail as the male slipped close by her side, but quickly her emergency reserve of composure smoothed over her glossy coat once more. She seemed to outwardly relax, though this was only because thus far her insight had proven true, and she trusted that it would warn her further if something were to go awry. On the inside, she was ready to pounce, to pin, to settle her teeth onto the male's throat if he made any moves she didn't like. Her comfort only came from knowing exactly where any attack from him may come from.

So she allowed him to follow at her side as she nimbly weaved through the forest towards the northern areas, only slowing her pace after a while to nose around for the escaped slave's scent. Only once did she allow her eyes to glance over to the large male's frame as she tipped her nose to the sky to scent at the air, one ear perking at his question.

Lone one? Her fur nearly bristled again, but she kept her composure, speaking as she scented about.

"Hunting..lone one.." Her words carried a little bite to them as she spoke in her normal silky tone, "A slave has escaped my pack's reach, and I'll be damned if I return to my alpha with nothing to show for my efforts.." The tips of her pearly white fangs slipped into view as her lips drew back into a feral smirk. "Where is it that you are going by following me, male? Surely your business is far different from mine.."

With her last word she stopped and spun full circle to face this male, bold golden eyes staring up into his. Her eyes only betrayed a little of her surprise as she marvaled at the large male's stature. Liriel was no small female, but this male seemed to tower over her as if she were. It was then she wondered if her strength would matter if he didn't decide to 'play nice'..

Even after his question, they padded on in silence. This amused the massive wolf greatly. Oh, certainly he could force answers from her, but charming them out was so much more ... fun.

And then her answer. She was a wry one, this female. After she finished, her quickness in wheeling around to face him brought him further amusement. This one had more fire than she knew what to do with ... "Of, but surely where anyone as beautiful as you is going is a place I want to be too." His smirk matched her own. "Mayhaps my own business will match up with yours for a while, pretty one. I have always fond hunts entertaining. "

He looked down upon her, feeling the power of the situation shifting, as her realiziation of his strength and size set in. This was exactly the kind of game he liked to play.

Immediately the wheels began turning in Liriel's head as she realized her disadvantage. She should probably be polite to this male, lest her own neck end up on the line. As her eyes met his, she managed to put on her best mockup of a smile.

"Got quite the silver tongue, don't you, stranger..?" Slowly she circled around him, sizing him up and taking in his scent. It was a pleasing smell, but the dark wolfess didn't let it get to her, not now..no, she was strictly business, as she always was. "Mayhaps indeed..." she trailed off thoughtfully, those gears and wheels in her churned out idea after idea, but finally settled on one.

This male could make an excellent diplomatic partner..she could see that plain as day. And perhaps..just perhaps..she could weasel her way out of her teaming with Haemon. This male, at least, did not send shivers of alarm up her spine. Even if she could not overpower him, she could still go toe to toe with him with words.

"You're in luck, male..." she said, the beginnings of a blush hidden under her dark coat from his ceaseless compliments, " I just may have a use for you after all..."

Caydenn was practically laughing inside. He'd already won. Or so he thought. He looked down at her, his strange eyes peering out from under his hood. " Good of you not to write me off so quickly. I'm sure you'll come to know exactly how much help I can be. "

His smooth words were clearly a double-entendre, and he wanted her to notice. It looked like the little she-wolf was plotting something. Something big. And Caydenn loved plots. " So, most lovely, what exactly is this use for me you've dreamt up? "

Her circling of him brought a glitter of joy into his eyes. It pleased him that his physicality pleased her. She herself was highly attractive. Oh ... the possibilities. " Now, whatever way this works out, you'd best stop calling me 'male'. I'm Caydenn. "

Caydenn wondered weather she'd return her own name to him. Maybe. Either way, he doubted that it mattered much.

"Fine then, Caydenn it is.." she said, finally stopping before him, her smirk wide as ever. "I want you to be my partner, that's what...Don't get excited.." she chuckled lowly to herself, "A ..diplomatic partner of sorts.."

Liriel couldn't help but laugh softly at Caydenn's overt flirting. Oh if only he knew how many males she'd had to tear apart for their mistaken assumption that they were simply 'too irresistable' to be turned down by her. All she hoped was that he would eventually get the message, so that she could at weasel out of her partnership with the terrifying Haemon.

She couldn't deny that the compliments did feel good, but she knew that he couldn't possibly be so genuine with them to hand them out so readily and easily. Finally her mind settled, and she sat cooly back as she spoke again.

"Your job would be scouting with me and meeting with other packs ..support, you see..for strength always seems to lie in numbers.." she regarded him again, ears flicking forward as she assessed his worth, "Your skill with words would no doubt be valued by the pack..if you choose to accept my offer and become a part of our court..."

"Oh, it's a court you belong to, is it, pretty one?" That did sound intriguing. "And, I, of course, am always one for making new acquaintances. " He grinned, looking like a rouge and a scoundrel. His eyes still burned with the fire that this little game seemed to have instilled within him.

He looked her up and down again. She was a fine example of a female. His flirtatious, complimentary nature was used against all females he encountered, but he rarely actually found them attractive. But this one ... Was just pretty. His very idea of what pretty was. Interesting. This game was starting to look like the most entertaining one he'd ever played.

"Now, I might be persuaded to accept your offer, dear one, but first, you must give me one thing. " He paused, letting the silence do some of the work for him. " You name. I cannot be partnered to someone without one, you know. "

Liriel regarded him in silence, and inwardly she smiled at herself. This one did not look like one of the goody-two-shoes types, that was for sure, and there was a fire in his eyes and his speech that convinced her that the male would indeed make an appropriate 'gift' for her alpha.

She nodded to his words and slowly stood up, bringing an air of nobility to her stature as she casually paced before him. "Yes, a court..and as a lady of the court it is my duty to travel and collect..tribute from nearby packs..or else.." Her maw took to its wicked smile again as she let a low chuckle escape her throat, her voice slipping smoothly into a lower, sensuous tone to further reel him in. "..I believe that you would be a most valuable partner in such...negotiations.."

Pausing again, she looked back to him, nodding to his request.

"Liriel..that is my name..Is there nothing else but my name you wish to learn before courting the Reign of Terror..?"

She knew she might as well begin her venture back by now..Her senses told her that the slave had not so much as set foot in this neck of the woods, by the smell of it, and that any time spent reaching farther out would be time well wasted.

"A lovely name for you, and a strange one for your court. But I like it. I like them both. " Of course she was high ranked in her pack, he thought to himself, she did not hold herself like a some common creature.

"Now dear, I have no other questions. Excepting, when do we return to your home?" The word 'together' hung in the air, but he didn't say it, grinning instead, letting her fill it in. The crafty male was still winning, in his opinion. And maybe making some small headway into gaining her trust, which certainly was an important part of this whole game.

Liriel couldn't help but let that wicked smile persist as she turned from Caydenn to lead him on, back towards the area she split off with Haemon. "You will come to find out, Caydenn, that I am not such a strange fit for the court after all..with time...But worry not..I believe you would make an excellent fit, yourself.."

Truly, she did believe it..she knew this male had ulterior motives veiled behind his seemingly gentile behavior..she also knew that for the most part, that was also the case with just about any other member of the pack...Yes..he'll fit in quite well..

(I think there was someone wanting to run into Liriel and Caydenn to have their wolf be the pack's new slave..go ahead and give it one more post and I'll see if I can get up with them about it.)

"Oh, I can imagine you fitting in anywhere, my dear. " His grin was playful, as usual. For now, he felt sure he had victory. For all his years, he had wandered alone. Suddenly, he was promised the additional protection of a pack. To him, this seemed a fair trade for his own ... skills.

"Lead on, fair Liriel. To our home. And your rulers. " His grin was a little more wicked this time. He had the sense that she did not call all the shots in her own life, and he was soon to find out who exactly did. It was sure to be interesting.

((Whoo, on to slave finding, then!))
