Acceptable Ranks for Characters
Female characters may be Journeymen or Masters of a particular craft. It has been 200 years since the 9th Pass and there is markedly less sexual discrimination, but that doesn't mean that everyone is accepting of women in ranking positions. It is not socially acceptable to ostracize a female in a ranking position, but there may be some dissent against a particularly strong female in a certain rank. Imagine the political climate in the United States shortly after women were given the right to vote.
Journeymen will generally not be Searched, although if they were just given Journeyman status or have yet to be stationed somewhere, exceptions can be made.
Candidates may not have parents of a high rank, such as Master or a Lord or Lady Holder. Heirs to any major Holds will not be Searched.
Weyrbrats are all well and good. However, be aware that higher ranking characters will be filled in by PC characters and thus you may not have their parents be a Weyrleader or a Wingleader.
Remember that on Pern, age plays strongly into rank.
Apprenticeships tend to start at a very young age, and not all apprentices become Journeymen. It is rare for anyone younger than 18 to become a Journeyman.
