what do you think Ds childhood was like?
PostPosted: Fri Feb 27, 2009 10:39 pm

I think something really bad happened. I think it was fun and happy until that day. Like maybe his mom was slaughtered before his eyes or something. Or perhaps he killed someone or something himself.

Probably not the greatest. Maybe it was like Alucard's.

D mentions that Dunpeal children are very considerate children. But he tries to make the listener think he was the exception. But knowing D, I would say he was an extremely considerate child. And he did love his Mother very much. In fact she maybe the only woman/person he truly loves for all time. Of course any fake illusions of his mother better beware. Maybe he also has a deep rooted resentment for his creation but I believe he was a very good and hardworking child. He certainly knew his way around a farm. He must have been a very honorable/ noble boy. Extremely beautiful though. He may have even looked like a baby girl. ninja

In one of the books he seems to kind of touch on it but only in a very vauge and slight way. I think that D was a very happy child and with the way that her treats women I think that somehting really bad happened to him mom. I think that his father killed her and I think that is way he has such a strong hate for him and what not. But I beleive up until the point to when his mother disappeared of died or whatever really happened to her, I think that he was a very helpful child, like other think. You have to wonder what happened to make him so cold though. Kind of sad though.

No, I don't think he attended human schools like a normal child. He never fails to attract the interest of girls. Even you couldn't resist sending him love notes during class. ^.^ heart I think even the boys might be questioning their sexual preferences looking at him everyday.

No, D was raised princely and around his Father. He displays excellent skills with aesthetics (His dress style and way he carries himself) and princely manners as well as courtly etiquettes. He must have been raised around Nobility. Thats probably how he met his Curious Carbuncle?

(Rf. Vol. 1 Vampire Hunter D Chapt. 7 Death of a Vampire Hunter - pgs. 183-184)

{ "Survival of the fittest, might makes right-- that's not what your Sacred Ancestor used to say." Larmica's eyes bulged, but a moment later she laughed out loud. "Not only are you sickeningly soft-hearted, but it appears you're given to delusions as well. Did you mention the Sacred Ancestor? There's no chance a lowly creature like you would know someone of his greatness. He who made our civilization, our whole world, and the laws by which we ruled. Every one of us faithfully followed his words."
"Every one of you? Then why was the poor old b*****d always so troubled..."
"The poor old b*****d? You mean...No, you couldn't ..." Larmica's voice carried a hint of fear. }

D's own words suggest that he knew and lived around his father long enough to know the stresses the King had. Also he often speaks well about his father's honorable and noble ways. So that would suggest that Dracula didn't kill or do anything so dishonorable as hurt a woman like D's mother. But something must have happened to set D on the path to destroy all Vampires. But what? Thats the mystery. But it's said that you can tell how a man will treat women, by the love he has for his own Mother. And he seems to be a big softy for the ladies. At least the ones who don't want to be Vampires.

You maybe right. But Adrian initially served his father's and turned into a full vampire. Where as D went in the opposite direction and stands firmly against vampires or becoming one. Of course now Adrian Farenheights Tepes aka Alucard carries great regrets for his past evils and he also hunts for his father because of the sad demise of his Mother; which he blames solely on Dracula. I wonder if D's background is similar? Does D hunt his father because of some sorrowful end to his Mother? We'll have to keep reading the novels to find out more on D's mother.

dont be stealing my ideas lol jk

I figure something like Masq says here. He oculd have started off having a peaceful childhood, beiing a kind and compassionate Dhampir, but i figured something would have had to happen to make him so cold. Even though time and his blood already sets his life up for that. I feel like there had to be something else. Either mommy died, or maybe he cut down mommy. Or daddy did something, or whatnot.

Well, a lot of the original story for Vampire Hunter D, was influenced by the Castlevania games, like Doris and her whip, Dracula having a vengeful son who desires to hunt him down and kill him. Alucard's mother Lisa was executed by humans. She was burned at the stake for being a witch. She had been caught and sentenced to death by the people of a nearby village who thought she was performing witchcraft because she was married to Dracula. There's a chance that something similar happened to D.

I don't think so. I think Castlevania was influenced by Vampire Hunter D... we'll never know.

Kronoton is right, Castlevania was created after and influenced by Vampire Hunter D. I remember reading about one of them being created after the other's influence, but I couldn't remember which. For some odd reason Castlevania seems older. I remember playing the first Castlevania game as a child on my older brother's Super Nintendo. That game was hella ancient. Maybe it's just the setting and Alucard's outfit that made me think that it was older. Or maybe its all the new VHD products and books coming out now; that made think thats it was younger.

Browsing Wikipedia:

Very little is known of D's parentage, or his past. Some Nobles whisper dark rumors about their vampire progenitor, the Sacred Ancestor known as Count Dracula, bedding a human woman called "Mina the Fair" (perhaps named after Mina Harker). Dracula conducted bizarre crossbreeding experiments (involving himself and countless human women), with the only successful product of the experiments being D. [Doesn't sound like much of a love story between Dracula and D's Mother.] D, wanting nothing to do with his father save for killing him, refuses to go by his true name. Instead, he shortens it to the first letter.

[The cross breeding experiment that created D is mentioned, in Vol. 2 "Raiser of Gales") So much for a honorable noble manners of a King. In this Novel Dracula looks more like a Mad Scientist. And the vision he showed D, made D even more resentful with how his Mother was treated.]
