These are the arguements that FightFOCA has made against FOCA. What do you think of them? I personally can't find anywhere in the bill where it says or hints at any of this.

Quote:
* FOCA will do away with state laws on parental involvement, on partial birth abortion, and on all other protections.
* FOCA will compel taxpayer funding of abortions.
* FOCA will force faith-based hospitals and healthcare facilities to perform abortions.

FOCA Would Wipe Away Every Restriction on Abortion Nationwide
This would eradicate state and federal laws that the majority of Americans support, such as:
* Bans on Partial Birth Abortion
* Requirements that women be given information about the risks of getting an abortion
* Only licensed physicians can perform abortions
* Parents must be informed and give consent to their minor daughter's abortion

FOCA would erase these laws and prevent states from enacting similar protective measures in the future.

In the FAQ on the site, they also say:
Quote:
Will FOCA reduce abortions or make them safer?

No. FOCA will dramatically expand abortion in the United States by removing any regulations of abortion and expanding the types of people who can perform them. FOCA will invalidate all health and safety abortion regulations and even allow non-physicians such as dentists and social workers to perform surgical abortions without training. Under FOCA, abortion providers will not be required to sterilize surgical instruments or to have functioning emergency equipment. FOCA endangers the health, lives and safety of American women.

See my thread FOCA Freakouts for more information and misinformation about FOCA.

I haven't seen that second paragraph yet, but I can tell you that it is utter lies and makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. It's infuriating how boldly and proudly these people lie.

ALL surgical procedures are subject to strict health and safety regulations and FOCA would not change this. What's interesting, though, is that the situation they describe is actually what's likely to happen if abortion is illegalized or heavily restricted. Making abortion illegal doesn't make it stop, it just drives women to back-alley "surgeons", dangerous chemical and herbal concoctions and causin traumatic injury in the attempt to force the body to miscarry.

The second paragraph was in the FAQs. I was looking at the AUL view on FOCA, and they did a pretty good job of mixing truth with fantasy. Kinda scary... (Of course, I only skimmed it so...)

In argument of the belief that parents will have no control over if their child gets an abortion, I can only ask this: what about a parent's right to deny their child medical attention?

An example of such a situation (that ended badly): Shunning medical help

This site talks about why parents shouldn't do so, but why they have the right to anyway. It brings up the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act that says in Sec. 113:

Quote:
Nothing in this Act shall be construed... to require that a State find, or to prohibit a State from finding, abuse or neglect in cases in which a parent or legal guardian relies solely or partially upon spiritual means rather than medical treatment, in accordance with the religious beliefs of the parent or legal guardian.

The Constitution and past court cases support the parents' right to raise their kids as they see fit (source)

Another source on parents' rights: Parent rights

That's ******** atrocious. How can you treat your child like they're property and not a person? And all for your religious beliefs! I didn't know they had legal protection.

Wait, the guy says it won't make abortions safer and DENTISTS will be allowed to perform them, even though it says right there that only lisenced physicians would be allowed to perform an abortion? I'm confused. I feed off logic, and I've been starving lately...
